Might be an idea, because he's now had a week of the pred, with one more week to go, and his stools are still really loose and jelly like. We have found he can't have beef right now, as his stools became REALLY loose for the 3 days he was getting that. I gave quail yesterday, and today so far, and they are a bit better than they were on the beef. He is, however, feeling better, playing more, and doesn't seem to have the nausea and pain he was before.

Is there blood in his stool? or is that just the distorted colour that one gets with photos on occasion? It's very muccousy and not much substance I'm glad that you're seeing some improvement especially in his outlook on life even if his stools are still very funky. ciao

I thought it was blood at first when looking at it in person. But when I wiped it up with the paper towel, it looked like in the second one. No trace of blood at all

That's good. It would have been frank blood anyway but still, I never take that lightly. I worry far more if I see coffee grounds in their stool as that means blood further up in the bowel and stomach. What is he getting with his pred? ciao

have any fecals or blood work been done? I assume none of the other ferrets have issues???
It sometime takes a couple of rounds of meds to suppress a bad inflammatory response. I don't know if you'll need to wait a bit between pred. and imuran - I'll see what I can find out.

What is he getting with his pred? Cooked turkey soup. It's the only kind of soup he'll take right now. I'm hoping the quail he was fed this morning! But I have to clean out stashes. Again have any fecals or blood work been done? I assume none of the other ferrets have issues??? He had a couple of poops in the vet's office, and she didn't see a need for them. I asked why, and she said it didn't look(or smell) like a bacterial overgrowth. and either the metro or the amoxicillan should have kicked that out if it were. Since none of the others are affected, that would rule out parasite or virus. Especially since he's been having poops like this off and on since last November.

Poor man, but at least he feels better. I know it can take a long time for the GI to get back in balance after tough bouts . Glad he is eating more though--welcome news.

Well, back to the vet's on Tuesday He's definitely feeling better, which is fantastic, but his poops are still really bad, poor boy. I'm kind of going back and forth between going with another course of pediapred, to give it time to work, since he IS feeling better. Or just trying a trial of lupron to rule out adrenal related IBD I've been giving him the same meats for 3 days at a stretch, and he gets his pred in the turkey soup every evening, and it doesn't seem to matter what the meat is(although beef is MUCH worse), his stools are still either jelly, slimy, or just plain loose.

At least Boris is feeling a lot better. That poop thing is being really stubborn There are some tough cases that end up on the imuran, which seems to be stronger than pred. Hang in there, Sherry - I know this is stressful for you as well as for Boris. -jennifer

A thought.... Is Boris getting any bulk in his diet? I know he stopped eating the pumpkin a while back. He should be getting some bulk/fiber....it can help some IBD ferrets quite a bit.

I'd actually thought of that after about a week ;D I've been adding about 1/2 to 3/4 of a tsp of pumpkin into his soup at night time. Otherwise, it's normal muscle meat, and some bone in. I'm still holding off on the liver/cod liver oil for him til the pred is done. Didn't want to throw it off, just in case. Oh, and just to clarify. I defrost one cube of turkey soup for him, mix it with the KMR, and the pumpkin. I give him a few tastes, put the pred in the first spoonful, which he eats, then he'll have maybe one more tbsp of soup, and he's had enough. I can sometimes coax him to eat a wee bit more, but not much. So he's eating about 1 1/2 to 2 tbsp of soup mix. Although I can't be sure, since my scale isn't digital, but I'm fairly sure he's been putting some weight back on. He doesn't feel as frail or fragile as he did.
