Something isn’t right, he’s eating less than he does during the summer (and he started this winter with a voracious appetite) and he’s much sleepier. Been going on for about two weeks now, thought he’d snap out of it. Taking him in for a glucose check on Friday.

Good luck. At least insulinoma is treatable. I had one gorl on pred over 2 years.

Yeah, Winnipeg was on pred for about three years and the insulinoma isn’t what did him in.

Well it’s not insulinoma, BG of 106. Vet suggested it was possibly seasonal affective disorder and to give him 14 hours of light a day and see if his sleepiness and appetite improve. I’ll try it and report back.

We’ve made sure to leave the shades open in the rooms he uses, and we turn on lights from 6:00 to sunrise and sunset to 8:00. This is unusual for us, as we were previously keeping it as dark as possible in the house at all times. Summer hours of lighting, though the past week has been cloudy. He is eating a bit more and doesn’t burrow away from the light (very rare to find him under a blanket) so he’s seeing it. Still sleeping a lot. After a few days of letting him be a hermit to see if the light alone would fix him I started pestering him more. Nothing terrible, just petting him while he sleeps at random intervals and teasing him with grabby hands when he walks by. This seems to be improving his mood more. Though he will still get sick of me entertaining him after a few minutes and walk away from the interaction. Rude fellow. He probably thinks I’m the rude one.

well, they are all individuals, and he may be just in winter mode, where they sleep more. Bobo seems to be. I haven't had Mr Frodo and Casper long enough to know any difference, but Frodo is playful when he's out and about. Mr Frodo tucked himself into my bed IMG_5324 by unclejoe1158, on Flickr

It seems he’s getting his rhythm back, he’s eating more and seeking out company more.

well that's good news. most of us call it winter mode. I should have made the connection. some ferrets are affected more and some less. theory is it depends on the time of year they are born, sinve the mills breed 12 months a year so some ferrets are off in their seasonal timing for a few years. I've had a couple that did winter mode in spring. when was he born?

Birthday is January 30th, but he started the winter eating a ton, so this was a distinct change. He got a Suprelorin implant in October so that hormone surge may be been the reason he started with a bang.

it could have resolved itself. I brought home my second fuzz whose pee turned forest green and smelled funky after a few days at home. It was a UTI. I took him to the vet myself and when I mentioned it at the pet store they said they would have coverd the bill which was under $100 back then.
Is he still a kook? I love his castle

He’s calmer now, but still gets riled up and dances if I tickle him. His favourite strange thing to do right now is dig at my leg when I sit on the toilet because he wants the freshly flushed water and knows that comes soon after. He loves toilet water and the water in my decorative fountain because they’re running. Hardly drinks from his actual bowl no matter how fresh it is. The castle is a Little Tikes dollhouse from 30 years ago. I popped off the purple vaulted roof and it’s in my yard near a fancy stone pile, and the floor detached from the legs leaving me with the dollhouse itself. I put an upside down baking sheet on top as a second story in the cage and suspended a hammock between the legs with carabiners.
