Churchill (after the city in Canada, not the man) was not my first choice of names, but my husband insisted and it’s starting to stick, haha. He’s still getting his sea legs, he wasn’t let out of the cage except to be handled and he isn’t very good at moving. Has to stop and take breaks from moving a lot and just started chasing feet. He was born on or about January 30th according to Marshall’s papers, so he’s still got the potential to grow a little more, but he already weighs about four pounds. Winnipeg was just two and a half. This is a two-handed ferret for me, when I try to scoop him up with just one he slides out because his skin is so thick and rolls and his fur is so soft. After Winnipeg went bald and then regrew a rough coat both of us forgot how silky a young ferret is. In related news, I heard from the pet shop that Path Valley has shut down operations after the owner’s death.

He’s on Marshall’s kibble at the moment but I’m trying to switch him to pork grinds now since I have a lot leftover from Winnipeg. Put kibble on top and below the grinds, we’ll see if he takes it that easy while I’m at work but I doubt it! I offered him both salmon oil and cream and he didn’t have any interest in either, but he could’ve just been too overwhelmed with exploring to care about food. I figured he might be food motivated since he’s kinda fat, but maybe not.

Didn’t eat the grinds plainly presented, just ate a little kibble off the top, so I made a 20% meat/80% wet kibble mush, see if he eats that. He’s pooping up a storm, I forgot how much they poop on kibble, but except for his very first poop and pee combo he’s gone in the litter boxes both in and out of the cage all the time, which surprised me because he didn’t have a box in the store, they just expected him to go in the corner of the enclosure and cleaned it up.

He's out of shape from not getting exercise? Let me just say he looks just like Scamp/Booger, so watch out when he gets toned up. Booger was into EVERYTHING, 24/7 lol (booger was Real Canadian) i hope you have a long fun time together. Welcome, Churchill!

He wouldn’t eat the 20% meat mix overnight, so I gave him plain kibble this morning so he doesn’t starve and when I got home from work again I added water and about 10% meat, and he’s eating that! So we’re slowly getting somewhere. He’s coming out of his shell more and more and running faster. Here’s a video attacking a Weazel Ball (I plucked the eyes out, they’re a good choking size and I remember from when I was a kid and had one of these the eyes come out easily) imgur.com/gallery/zSa9dBz

Church won’t move above 10% meat mixed into the kibble, and he only eats a few bites of it like that, so I keep going back to pure kibble to make sure he’s eating. He likes dehydrated liver, though. Gonna try a different approach and give him a frozen mouse and see what happens.

What a pretty baby! Never could get my ferrets passed the 2lb mark even my boys. Enjoy!
I remember trying to get my 1.5 year old changed over to raw---oh man what a task---but he did it

Well, he’s very interested in the mouse- biting it, swinging it around like a dog with a toy it’s murdering, stashing it in various places, but he hasn’t figured out he can eat it yet. I have one more mouse frozen after this one goes bad, then I’d have to buy more to continue the trial. Much more promising behaviour than avoiding the ground meat at all costs though, and the mice are better for him anyway. I just dread getting into breeding them again, they set off my allergies so bad I have asthma attacks when I clean their tanks. Now I can wear a mask, though. That should help.

He’s decided it’s good! Head’s been eaten. I keep having to find it in the closet or under furniture and put it back in his cage, he likes to carry it around like a disgusting prize, haha. I need to buy a cat’s heavy water bowl or something for outside the cage, the reason I’m leaving the door open is so that he can drink during the day, he’s a very heavy drinker. He’s actually emptied the water crock on me twice. He’s probably a little dehydrated still, they had him on a bottle at the pet store and of course he’s still eating mostly dry food.

He almost ate the whole mouse! Just the butt and intestines left, and he turned it around and ate the tail and feet too. Left the second mouse with him this morning, gonna be a long day out, I’ll see how much he finishes when I get back.

Second mouse is almost gone and polished off the first mouse too, went out and bought 20 mice to start breeding. Got a lilac male and an argente male, the rest are pink eyed whites of varying sexes. Once those two males’ genes mix in I should have an interesting selection of various light greys and oranges. He keeps trying to take the mouse with him whenever he leaves the cage now and I have to keep disappointing him and taking it back.
Weird thing about him, he pees smaller amounts more frequently than Winnipeg, he does drink a lot more but I’m used to Winnipeg’s BIG big puddles a few times a day. The pee is also slightly green. I’m used to seeing greenish pee in humans when they consume excess amounts of B vitamins, was it the Marshalls kibble that caused the green pee?

ugh green pee. My second ferret was 11 weeks when I got him from a pet store. he peed green and it turned out to be a UTI. a round of antibiotics cleared it right up. only case in my 30 ferrets

Been watching and the green pee stopped… wondering what to do now. It was never distinctly green, more on the cusp of neon yellow and green. Not heading towards orange on the yellow scale. Other causes of green pee than a UTI are heartworm, lymphoma, not good things but not likely. First vet appointment I could hope for is the 5th of July.
