Sigh, his beautiful tail is balding slowly. Been progressing for about two months. I figured I’d give it time to grow back to see if it was just a bad shed but there’s no denying it now. I’ll be getting him an appointment to have his first implant put in shortly. Not even two years old! Here he is snoozing right through me messing with it to show you.

He got the implant yesterday, they’re running $236 where I am now. We’ll see if his mysterious itchiness decreases in a few weeks, and whether his tail grows back in a few months.

Yeah, those implants aren't cheap. Hope his tail grows back.

If the implant doesn’t spur hair growth in a few months I’ll add in melatonin, but I want to see if this works on its own first.

It did for Charlie when his tail started to lose fur and he got his first implant. It looked like Churchill's, not completely naked but thinning. He never had an issue again because he got his implant every year after that. He was about 1 year and 4 months at the time but I used it more for slowing the disease down knowing full well that most ferrets get adrenal.

I ended up at $329 after a $3 medical waste fee (garbage charge but what can you do)

I’m hoping I got it into him early enough that the progression will be slow over the years, yeah. I don’t want to be caring for a long sphynx cat so quickly again.

Has Churchill's tail started growing the fur back?

The darn thing is the itchiness hasn’t improved! So adrenal wasn’t the reason. To reiterate, I’ve tried both steroids and antihistamines, he’s on flea treatment monthly, and he’s had ear mite treatment as well. And now hormonal treatment. I think he’s just got an over grooming tic. It doesn’t seem to disrupt life that much, just when he gets excited and is playing he has to keep flipping into a ball and biting and scratching. When he’s calm it doesn’t happen.

Is it normal? Winnipeg never did that and this is only ferret #2 for me. The vet thought it was abnormal but he doesn’t see that many ferret patients.
