I haven't had too many ferrets that play a lot, other than with each other, as life is pretty serene around here, but that sounds normal to me, it it only happens while playing. Then again, I've had quite a few that will bolt out of a dead sleep and start scratching like crazy, only to go right back to sleep. It seems to be a ferret thing. I don't know why they do it, but it has interupted many a play session. I wish I had known. Could have saved you some worry and expense.
Unless he goes outside a lot, or you have other critters that can bring home fleas, I would hold off on the monthly treatments. My kats get treated with Advantage II, and the ferrets don't go outside. I found a flea on Frodo last week. He was rehomed to me a couple months ago. I haven't seen a flea on the kats snce they were born 3 yrs ago, and I was told that Frodo had 2 baths in the 2 weeks prior to being rehomed. BUT, the night before I got him, he escaped outside but came back. I have found ticks on a couple kats, even after 2 nights in the 20s and a few in the 30s. treating for adrenal prophylactically isn't a bad thing, tho. A lot of people talk about rat tail. Sometimes it happens during a shed and grows back, but every ferret I've had that got rat tail ended up being treated for adrenal. I currently have Bobo, #30, Frodo, #31 and Casper, #32

I never used to treat for fleas but I found some on Winnipeg in his final months so I bought the drops, used them two months, stopped assuming they had to be all dead because I have no other animals they can feed on, and they came back, so I resumed treating. He died, I was ferretless for several months, Churchill came home, I assumed again I couldn’t possibly have fleas, didn’t treat, and there they were again. Treated for four months and let myself run out of drops, and the fleas showed up once more.
The neighbourhood has an ample outdoor cat population and my neighbours during this time had dogs, but Winnipeg only went outside in his seeing days, and Churchill hasn’t been outside except for the time I held him up over the fence like I was Rafiki showing off Simba to a neighbour who wanted to see him. Never touched the ground. I don’t know where they’re coming from, but they keep on coming.

If you have carpeting it's possible their eggs can lay there dormant, but I'm not sure of their lifespan. Last year I watched Jack (kat) cough up an 8 inch tapeworm, which he got from eating a small critter that had fleas. It's crazy how some parasites live and propagate.

I remember you stepping on it I think! I have wooden floors with area rugs. I went nuts vacuuming daily when they first showed up but don’t bother now, I’ve given up. Not an infestation by any means, I never see them not on a ferret, they don’t bite us humans and I only spot one at a time on the ferret when I stop treatment. No flea dirt on either ferret ever. The house isn’t exactly sealed either, being built over 100 years ago.

I've used borax on the rugs with good results. sprinkle on, broom in, let is sit an hour and vacuum. I once had wall to wall carpet. never again No, I didn't step on the tapeworm. I saw Jack worf it up. Just the worm. No juices or anything. I got a pic. Speaking of kats, last night Cubby crashed my computer. Literally crashed it to the floor. I wasn't planning on getting myself a new laptop for Xmas, but here it is. Do you like it? LOL. The old one was 5 yrs old and I put a new hard drive in it last year. the old one runs but the display is toast, so it should be easy to recover the files I need. I cleaned out a lot of junk a couple weeks ago too. Luckily my bills spreadsheet was on the cloud so I already have it and a few other important files. was gonna post pics but yahoo is very slow tonite. His fur for the winter is coming in very suddenly, just within the past two weeks it’s thickened a lot. Implant may have spurred that growth or it may just be what was going to happen with the seasons anyway. His first winter he had a longer coat, this year it isn’t as long (yet at least) but is denser. I’ll get up some pics soon.

He’s now bleaching on his head/neck behind the ears Charlie did this for his first winter. His head got a lot of white and his mask got really small, then in the spring when he was losing his winter coat his mask got big again. It was like I got a new ferret! LOL

I post a new pic of Frodo soon, I promise. His fure still has some red, but it is darker and so soft. When Yoshi went thru his second coat change, his mask almost disappeared for 3-4 months.
