Good Morning Not much new here. We're just working on intros and trying to get everyone to become friends. Loki is doing well. Will you post his menu for the week and his current weight. I like the amount that he is eating. Could you give me an idea of how the bones are going? what bones and how much. what size chunks/cubes or slivers is he handling? I've never heard of those shows, I'll take a look for them, but we don't get HBO. We have a Roku and get Netflicks and Amazon on that. Bella told me about the show Supernatural. I really like. It's summer and I tend to read more.

I hope they become friends soon.
I was working on his menu today actually. Should I spread the bone in meals out more? I noticed I have some days when he gets bone in all day and then other days were he doesn't get any. His current weight is 3 lbs. I posted that on the 29th.
He enjoys some bone in items. He finished off that whole chicken wing before and a thigh the other day. But sometimes he doesn't and instead hordes a portion. I cut his meat into about 1/2 a dime size pieces and except for the gizzards he does well with that. I crush the bone up as much as I can.
Carnivale is on Amazon Prime. And the Polar Bear Cafe is on Crunchyroll which is a free app on Roku. (My whole family loves Roku). I used to love watching Supernatural but I hate how repetitive the storyline gets. I'm hoping this season will be better. I try to read when I can. But Loki takes up so much time I don't get a lot done. Lol

If you want to spread out the Bone In meals, you could do a Bone In meal after the Organ meals and The heart meals. That helps because the organs and hearts make for looser poops. That's 3 meals. Three other meals are Muscle meat so follow the Muscle meat meals with Bone In. The majority of Loki's meals are Bone In (7-9) so you will have one day that is just Bone In.
So, to spread them out, your menu could look like this:
Monday: muscle meat Bone In
Tuesday organs Bone In
Wednesday muscle meat Bone In
Thursday Hearts Bone In
Friday muscle meat Bone In
Saturday Organs plus heart Bone In
Sunday Bone In Bone In
That would spread them out. Give you a Bone meal after an organ meal and after a heart meal. Sunday would be only Bone In, so that might be a good day to do something like Cornish game hen. Loki is likely to get 4 meals out of the Cornish game hen. When you defrost it, you could freeze the second half. If he doesn't eat the whole half, it would be fine in the fridge until Monday's dinner.
It's still early in the bone stage, so crushing is good. If you want to move him along a little, leave some wingtips in his cage for him to munch on at night. He's moving along at a good pace though. I'm very proud of our Loki, and you too! (dance)

Alright that's basically what I was thinking. I had two meals with gizzards, would it be okay to have one? Or do I have to keep two days of that?
Thank you! Its an adventure but its so worth it. Thank you for all of your help on this!

Gizzards are a muscle meat. In Loki's menu, he has four muscle meats. One of those muscle meats is Heart. If one is gizzard (and I really like them to have gizzards), that leaves two muscle meat meals. One muscle meat meal really should be red meat. If Loki's is getting red meat organs, that will fill the red meat requirement. So, you have one or two meals of muscle meat to fill in as you like. My muscle meat meals are 1. Hearts 2. Gizzards 3. ground beef with egg 4. usually turkey or pork. I have tried rabbit and duck for those meals, both are expensive, so I usually stick with pork or turkey. The menu planning gets easier each week. You start to get a feel for what is Loki's favorite meals. You find that putting organs on a certain day is easiest. You find ways to make your meal planning easier and what works best with your schedule. A month or two into it and you think, hmmm...this is so easy, why was I worried? And you feel so darn good when you watch Loki eat healthy, have soft fur and good energy levels. Not to mention nice clean teeth. And You're certainly Welcome. It's fun and a pleasure working with you and Loki.

That is awesome to know! I wanted to do a meal of lamb hearts (my friend gave me a bunch), another of gizzards, one of some ground meat (turkey or beef) with egg, and then the goat meat. I usually use rabbit and duck for bone in meals. The balancing thing is what worried me the most. I'm afraid he is missing something from his diet. BTW he ate about 3 ounces of straight lamb heart with a small shot of salmon oil on it this morning! (dance) It really does feel good knowing I'm giving Loki the best chance at a happy and healthy life.

Don't over worry. You are doing fine and so is Loki. This will seem easier and he is not missing anything from his diet. Imbalances take awhile to show up as a problem and so far, his menu is great.
The nice thing about having a Mentor in Training is that the Senior Mentors watch us carefully and will step in, if either of us need help.

Thank you! You've been a great help in the transition.
Loki is getting bone in rabbit tonight, lucky boy.

So I had quite the scare last night. I was just falling asleep when I felt the edge of my bed shake. As I was reaching for my glasses I suddenly had a face full of enthusiastic warm fuzziness. Some how Loki had gotten out of his cage (I admit I might not have secured the top door all the way) and had pounced my face. Lol
He ate about half of his rabbit meal over night. So maybe 2 ounces.

Good Morning Two ounces of rabbit is great! Any bone in that or was that a muscle meat meal? Maybe Loki should be nicknamed Houdini? At some point everyone escapes and I've heard funny stories about surprised ferrents, finding the little trouble makers in strange places in the house. Have you thought about closing your bedroom door at night and letting Loki free roam? You will get middle of the night play invitations and some toes nibbled on. He gets alot of out of cage time with you and you're good about taking him for walks, so its just an idea. I suggested it to Bella and it let her sleep in a little more and gave Evanna some much needed enrichment. Before Bella had Evanna, the little one spent alot of alone time in a cage. It's different with Loki, but it can help work up an appetite. Like he needs help with that. (giggle)

There were some bones in it with the muscle meat. Lol that's what I'm thinking! This is like the fourth time. That's hilarious that they are so sneaky. I want to actually convert my bedroom space into a play area for Loki, mostly for this winter so he has stuff to do. I have this awesome little cubby area that I want to make a cardboard box fort for him. And I'm going to make some digging boxes and a ball pit. It's just making the time to clean it out and organize everything. I don't mind getting him out in the morning, its only a little earlier than what I have too. And it actually gets me ready for the winter when I have to leave early anyways. Lol @ the last comment.

Letting him free roam your room would be good for him. It's also easier on you. As an only ferret, you can't play with him all the time and he will be happy exploring. He'll love having your room as a play space. The Cardboard fort is a good idea. When he gets tired of it, you just move it to another spot and throw a blanket over it. All new!
Watch your closet. We found Ponce on the top shelf of our closet. He climbed the clothes, pulled himself up to the shelf and was quite happy looking around. We walked in and saw him. Who knows how long he was up there.

He really does love exploring. You can tell it especially when we come home after an extended trip which required more cage time than normal. He really romps around my apartment then!
The cubby spot I'm thinking about using is maybe 2 and a half feet high. There are no shelves to climb onto. But that's always good to know. Poor Pounce! It must have been scary to stuck up there.
Loki is playing super sneaky ferret right now. He's slowly creeping around me, I pretend not to notice, then he pounces. Lol Sometimes I throw him off and grab him before he decides to get me. He got me good a few minutes ago. He turned his back to me and did the flat ferret thing. Then as soon as I got close to him, he sprang up and pounced! Lol Sometimes I hold still until he gets really close to me and then just lightly touch his foot or kiss his head and he bounces away excitedly.

So I had a minor hiccup in his menu this week. I'm having some trouble with my freezer and have been trying to defrost it. When I went to prepare the duck meat, it smelled and looked spoiled, so I threw it away. So I don't have any until next week when I get paid again. I have some chicken, hen, and rabbit pieces to supplement the bone in requirements. I wasn't able to give him the organs either today because they smelled sour. So I have some fresh ones defrosting in my fridge and will give them to him tomorrow.
I found some pork that was on sale and will try it tonight. I also saw pork neck but wasn't sure if he could have those bones or not? I'll let you know tomorrow how the pork goes over.
Hope everything is well with Keller and the rest of the family. I was cutting up Loki's food and kept hearing this tiny crunching noise, but as soon as I stepped from the kitchen it would stop. Only to start again when I was back in the kitchen. It took three tries, but I finally found Loki hiding under a box with a couple pieces of plain popcorn from the old rat cage I had. My mom took my rats when she came to visit and I had started to break down their cage. Loki snuck in when I wasn't looking and helped himself. Thank goodness he didn't get much.
