1. Ferret's name: Loki
2. Ferret's weight: 48 ounces (+1 ounces since the last weigh in on 8/22. He was 39-40 ounces when I began on 7/18) We made it finally to 3 lbs! (dance)
3. Ferret has eaten "X" amount on average per meal: Loki still eats at least three ounces of meat a day. He is taking his first steps on his new diet. He is really enjoying his new found love of stashing "treasures" lol. But he is warming up to some bone in items and chunks of meat. I try to give him at least straight ground if I have too, so he doesn't really get soupie at all anymore.
4. Stools on various proteins: Overall normal for being on a raw diet. He had some dark tarry ones recently which I think are from the beef organs.
5. Activity levels: Extremely active still.... some how maybe even more so! We finally had a chance to go to the park again last night. And I'm going to try to take him back to the beach this weekend. I'm worried though about how busy it's going to be with the holiday weekend and all.
6. Weekly menu: for now I am going to stick with what I have. This morning is chicken wing, which he usually enjoys. Although he didn't touch last nights bone in.

Loki ate just over half of the food I gave him this morning. Which was 2 ozs heart, 2 ozs liver, and maybe an oz of hamburger. A small note: On organ day plus heart day, you want Liver plus another organ, kidney/spleen/thymus/pancreas/brains etc... So instead of the oz of hamburger, it should be another organ plus your half meal of heart. I love that you take Loki out so much. It's wonderful for both of you and gives Loki so much stimulation. You're right, his poos will be darker (and looser) on Organ day. Beef also seems to make for slightly darker poos. He didn't eat any of the duck bones, did he eat some of the meat? Loki will get to the bones, as the food becomes more familiar, they start eating more of it and get better at what they do eat. Try cutting the wing tip and offering him the tip. Give it a whack or two and let him run off with it or put it in his cage. He'll get to it, especially when its Jerkified. Bone In is good for 24 hours and even a little more. I've found mine eating a jerkified piece that was hidden, and I know it was already two days old. No one has gotten sick. I'm not suggesting that we leave old pieces out and about. You just don't have to worry about a little "Jerkification". Have Fun today. We're going to try to go to Hulls Creek lake and hand out by the Lake. It's very pretty, 69 miles of Lake, a Dam, a marina and hiking trails. They even have a really good Marina restaurant.

Well I do liver and heart together. I tried kidney and he didn't like it. I only add the hamburger to help entice him to eat it.
I really try hard to get him out, especially while the weather is nice. I know how good it is for him and I always have a good time. I have no idea what I am going to do when the weather is bad. I'm hoping he will enjoy an indoor cardboard box fort I'm going to make him.
He ate some meat but didn't touch the bones. I gave him a fresh chicken wing this morning and will let you know how he did
That sounds like so much! I hope the weather is perfect for your trip. You deserve it. <3

Thanks, but we didn't make the beach today. Paul didn't sleep well and he slept in, so I hung out with ferrets and on the forum. Maybe, this weekend.
Fingers crossed on the wing. You can always help him along by hitting it once lengthwise and twice width wise, with a cleaver or knife.
One small note: One organ meal is Liver plus another organ. Try brains, they are milder. Your second organ meal is Liver plus another Organ plus a half meal of hearts.
You want Loki's weekly menu to have a ten percent Organ meal of Liver plus the other organ Then he has a ten percent of his weekly food intake in Hearts. Hearts are a Muscle Meat and for our purposes, not an organ. Organs are secreting organs.
I think its going to be quite a Winter. The cardboard fort will be alot of fun. You can also do a dig box and put foraging treats in it. Gizzards are a good choice. You can also dehydrate some little pieces of meat and put those in it. And a little snow will be fun for him.
Well, its off to the second shift of ferret play. We'll have four downstairs and one upstairs. The four downstairs will want to come upstairs and the one upstairs will want to be downstairs. (giggle)

I understand how that goes completely. I had stomach issues early this morning too. I know its because I ate too much junk food. So I tried to eat better today. I hope Paul is feeling better soon. *fingers crossed for Paul and the weekend* I got home really late and his bowl was completely empty. I checked his snuggle bag, towel, and under his hidey spot...and found nothing. So I'm assuming he ate it all??? So through the three organ meals there are two with liver and an alternative organ and then a half a meal of hearts after that? I just wanted to make sure I understand correctly. I'm hoping to have some sheep brains soon, but I will keep looking to see what I can find. That's what I was thinking about the fort. I want to make a sand sig box and then do a water one too and switch it up so it doesn't get boring. I'm also looking into a ball pit. Its going to be months of strikly indoor play although I do want him to experience a little snow. I love your ideas about the dehydrates meat. I want to start making some anyways. Hope the rest of your ferret play went well. It sounds like you have your hands full! But it also sounds like a lot of fun.

Good Morning and Happy Labor Day Weekend. Do you have any plans?
It sounds like he ate everything. How many ounces would you say that was? He may begin eating a little more to bulk up for Winter. Try giving him another ounce or two. See, if he eats that or leaves some. If he leaves some, then you know he is full.
Your Organ meals are:
One meal of Liver plus another organ
One meal of Liver plus another organ and a half meal of Hearts
Then under the Muscle meat meals is one full meal of Hearts. Hearts are a muscle meat.
Ten percent organs in his weekly menu Ten percent heart in his weekly. we break that into the half meal and whole meal of hearts.
7-9 meals of Bone In
3-4 meals of Muscle Meat, which includes a meal of just hearts.
Make sense?
Little Keller doesn't want to play with the other ferrets. That makes me sad, because she is so playful. But its early yet. She threw a hissy fit yesterday, when Mika climbed into Keller's bed.
Wynstan just follows her around.
Juliet has been allowed to see her and I have tried to supervise the interaction, but Juliet goes into prey mode and its going to be awhile before she and Keller have any real interaction.
I'm not even trying to work with Roamy yet. I'm just trying to let him get use to her smell and know that she's around the house.

Good afternoon and happy Labor Day weekend to you too. I was able to get Loki back to that beach area, but it was really hot, so we didn't stay long. He's homebound tomorrow since I'm going to visit with friends. (He scared their dogs the last time he visited) But I'm hoping to hit the beach one last time on Monday. Do you have anything fun planned.
I am thinking with skin, meat, and bone it was 4 ounces. I will try to give him some more meat when we get home Monday. I sat down to work on the goat meat with him and he gobbled it down without question. I was so shocked and happy.
That does make sense. I think I forgot that the heart is considered a muscle and not an organ.
Awww I hope that they start warming up to each other. I think that's a good idea to let them get used to her scent. I know that's what you need to do with other animals.

4oz is Great. Loki is eating Goat, good boy! I have this Huge Need to Feed, and nothing makes me happier than a good appetite. My son is Anorexic, physiological not psychological. I dealt with that for so many years. He's grown now and six feet tall, about 120lbs. Then I go and fall in Love with the finickiest pet ever, ferrets. Figures. (giggle) We have a rainy day. We were thinking of going to the Drive In. We actually have one here, and the food is fun Movie Drive In food. The Thunderstorms may waylay that plan. We're watching movies and I'm playing around on the computer. Have fun with your friends. It's so funny how even dogs are scared of little ferrets. Have you seen the video of the Lion and the Ferret. Someone has a pet Lion and the little ferret is just harassing the Lion. Don't worry, it ends well.

I know I was so excited! I gave him the goat early thinking I might have to work a little with him to get him to try it. Nope. I offered him a piece and he ate it without hesitation. So I gave him the bowl and he gobbled it down. I think maybe because it was warm it might have smelled more enticing to him. I'm so sorry about the struggle your son went through. I'm glad he is doing better. Lol I understand, I am very much that "care giver" type personality and it makes me happy when I'm feeding someone. Awww that sucks about the rain. I haven't gone to a drive in since I saw Signs. We have a local drive in where my mom lives, but I always worked late and always missed the shows. Now I live too far away. I haven't seen that yet. I will have to check it out. I can't get over how many large animals are afraid of things significantly smaller than themselves. And that gutsy little ferret! That doesn't surprise me at all. They are fearless little creatures.

Yeah for Goat! (dance) Goat is a red meat and so that gives you another red meat option. His breakfast menu says chicken organs. Are you pureeing those or trying some slices/pieces? Last night, dinner for mine was chicken hearts. They decided they didn't want chicken hearts. I even pureed some extra and poured it over the hearts, just to entice them. Nope, Ferret Food Strike. They had a big breakfast and I think they just weren't hungry. I hope so anyway. Keller tried some and wasn't impressed, but she did eat a few tiny spoonfuls. Everyone was really hungry for breakfast this morning. I should have given them hearts again for breakfast, but I had left the hearts out overnight and didn't have any defrosted. Have fun today and I'll talk to you later.

Yay for more options!
I cut them into small slices. He's still with my mom. I'm assuming he ate it all since I told her to let me know if he didn't eat anything.
I noticed Loki does that now and then. He just wont eat anything. I think that sometimes he just gets full. Hopefully that's what happened with your fuzzbutts.
Yay for Keller at least trying it. Hopefully she will warm up to them.
I hope you have some fun today too. Its down pouring so I wouldn't have been able to take Loki outside. I'm hoping for good weather tomorrow. *fingers crossed*

My mom reported to me that Loki has eaten everything today. Which I believe was chicken thighs and organs.

That's great news. Your Loki is doing so well. So are you and of course, your mom. It's nice that she is willing to follow your menu.
Did you have fun on your mini holiday with your friends?

Thank you from both of us. I was really happy when my mom said she would follow the diet. He didn't finish either of his meals today, but it was hot again today. So I think that might be why.
We went back to the beach but it was too muggy to stay long. But he had a little fun anyways. He found a toad the last time. lol
I was able to relax a little and found two new shows that were really good. Well new to me anyways. Carnivale from like ten years ago on HBO and an anime called Polar Bear Cafe.
How about you?
