Oh Man, loosing the freezer is such a pain. That happened to us once and we lost so much meat. That was preferret, so it wasn't an emergency but it was expensive to replace all that meat. Pork neck is fine. The chicken, hen and rabbit give you at least three proteins, four plus the pork. I know that most ferrets seem to love chicken neck, I haven't tried it yet. Ferrets sure love the smell of popcorn. Three little pieces won't hurt him (this time) but watch out, now that he knows what popcorn is, he will want more. Everything is fine with Keller. She's such a good girl and so playful. I can't wait for her to decide to play with the other ones. She had CGH this morning and is eating small pieces nicely. She has a good appetite for such a tiny thing. She also has Grapetail now. (dance) It's almost the weekend. Do you have any fun plans?

That sucks. I'm glad it hasn't happen to you again. Alright, I will grab some the next time I'm out. Hopefully they will have more organ meat too. I really need to go back to the meat market , if only for some more chicken feet. I'll definitely keep an eye out for chicken necks. I've seen chicken backs a few times. Would those be okay? I wonder what it is about popcorn? I personally love it, but so did my rats. Loki was nearly frantic trying to recover more. I had to put him in his cage so I could get rid of it without his interference. So I weighed Loki today and.... He's 51 ounces!!!!! Thats a 3 ounce (the needle bounced between 3 and 4) gain since 8/29! He was between 39-40 ounces when we began this journey on 7/18. Awww yay for Keller! Loki doesn't have grape tail. he just smells like a ferret. Lol I'm working a few hours tomorrow and cleaning. Sunday I am doing nothing. I want one day to just relax. I really want to take Loki back to the park but its been too humid. It was 86 today with a 64% humidity. How about you? Any fun plans?

How old are they when they typically stop growing?

Wow, Loki is a big healthy boy. Good for him. Sherry says some ferrets never get Grapetail. Juliet doesn't seem to have Grapetail, Roamy's is fainter but Wynstan and Mika have a strong Grape smell.
I've read different opinions on growing. I read on the forum, that they do 90% of their growth by about six months and then grow another 10% from six months to a year. I'd agree with that, based on what I've seen with mine.
A relaxing Sunday sounds wonderful. Cleaning, not so much. We're going to the Drive In tonight. Our town has a Drive In and a Movie Theatre (woo hoo). They are only open on the Weekends, and the theatre plays one movie, usually family friendly. The Drive In plays a double feature and has fun Drive In Movie food.

Awww alright, I still hope he gets it. I can't believe how big he has gotten. And that he still has at least another month of growing. When I picked him up from my mom's he seemed longer some how and he must have grown.
Lol the cleaning has to happen though. I need to clean up the space I want to use and start to get it ready for the coming cold. The drive in sounds like a great time. I hope you get to go.

And Loki is officially shedding. I just found the first hairs...at least that I've noticed before.

I keep saying this, but I really believe we will have an early Winter. Everyone seems to be shedding. Also, yesterday we say hundreds of Geese heading south. We did go to the Drive In. It was fun, and the food was good. The Windows kept fogging, it's pretty humid here. But, it was a silly kind of fun.
Your Loki is going to be a big boy. Did he try the pork neck? How about the gizzards?

I keep hearing that we might get some sort of cold front this month. I just hope that doesn't mean snow. I want to enjoy some fall weather before that happens. Plus my family does two big trips for work. I'm glad you were able to go to the drive in. I love silly fun. Some of my favorite memories involve just being goofy and random with my friends and family. My work was cancelled, so I did a lot of cleaning. Loki was really excited about this. I think mostly because he got to run around places he's usually not allowed in. He about scared the life out of me when I caught this from the corner of my eyes... He's still sleeping but on me now. He didn't eat a lot of the straight pork, so I wasn't sure if I should get the neck. I gave him 4 ounces and he only ate about an ounce. That was with a little olive oil on it. I gave him the same size portion of gizzards and he ate about half, which is normal for him. He had chicken thigh (again about 4 ounces with bones included) last night, and after snacking on it again this morning, ate most of it. There is still a little left in his bowl.

A little left in the bowl is good, that means he's (finally) full.
Cleaning with ferrets is fun. It takes twice as long but its much more fun. Did you use the Vacuum cleaner? Is he afraid of it? None of mine are, they chase it. Roamy isn't frightened but he stays away. Typical Male, "Let the females do the cleaning, I have better things to do". lol
That's such a cute picture. He really is one Good Looking Boy!

Lol I know! I didn't think it was possible there for a while. His stools are loose so I put a little crushed eggshell in with his organ meat today.
I usually put Loki away when I use the vacuum as I put a powder on my carpet. My rats hated it, but he's indifferent. Lol
Thanks! His coloring is so crazy right now. He's really white and yet at the same time he's almost a butterscotch color???

Sherry is our resident color expert. He looks like a sable to me, but I've never seen a Butterscotch color before. I'll be curious to see what color he is in the Winter. As they bulk up for Winter, you see more of the Undercoat and less of the top guard hairs. My Roamy has a bandit mask and it slips down his face into a V shape. Loki's first Winter coat will be beautiful. Their first Winter coat is so soft and floofy. How's your Blog going?

I think he is a sable too, but I'm not sure. I will try to get a picture tomorrow. The weather is supposed to be nice so I'm going to try to take him to the park. Loki's mask is definitely starting to disappear. Awww that's so cool. I am going to take lots of pictures when it comes in all the way. I definitely see how the guard hairs stick out more. Unfortunately I haven't really updated it in a while. I really should. I tried to upload those beach pictures but the signal was bad.

Loki barely touched any of the organ meat. Should I try grinding it or something? I do have a meat grinder so it wouldn't be a problem. I also went back to the store today but the pork neck was gone. We did get over an hour of playtime out at the park today and he was free roaming for most of the day too.

Awww that's so cool. I am going to take lots of pictures when it comes in all the way. I definitely see how the guard hairs stick out more.
During the Winter, there are more of the Undercoat hair, usually white or cream. So, you will see less of the Guard hairs (top coat) and that makes for less color and pattern. That's why the Mask which is guard hairs "slips" or disappears.
With organs, I usually do a soup. Mine will eat whole hearts but not organs. So, I do a soup. It's actually a good idea. If Loki got sick and needed to eat, a soup will be familiar and we all know how good soup is, when you don't feel good. So an organ soup keeps them familiar with the taste and texture of soup.
Loki sounded like he had a great day. You're so good with getting him out and about. You give him alot of enrichment and that makes for a happy ferret.

I can't wait to see your pictures! I love all the wonderful shots on this site.
I noticed last night all the white that is showing through. Its crazy! But very interesting too. I'm going to miss his little mask.
I'm really happy to hear about the soup. Loki loves his soupie and usually eats it all. So I'll make some tonight. He did eat about 2 ounces of goat last night.
He was a trip this morning when I let him out. He kept moving his new toy. He had it in the closet and then moved it to the couch, then back to the closet, then back to the couch. Lol he looked so happy bouncing around with it.
Awwww thanks ^_____^ He didn't want to leave yesterday but it was starting to get a little muggy outside. He was obsessed with all of the kids and tried to follow them around. It hurt my heart a little making him stop. Most of the parents I meet at the park are thrilled to see him, but I've ran into a few who didn't want their kids near him. So I try to give them space so I don't make anyone uncomfortable. I realized yesterday just how much I love seeing him break out into a run, tail all sticking out and just excited and happy. <3 And a super cute guy on a bike gave a little cheer when he saw us.
