I went back and looked through my posts and his previous weight was 3 lbs 1 oz. I'm not sure what's been going on with him this weekend. All he's wanted to do is sleep. He still ate his soup at night but he really would not eat it unless I was holding him. I tried putting him down and he would either not eat at all or just eat a little bit. I also noticed a little whimper when he would go to the bathroom. The only problem is I'm not sure if he was straining to go pee or poop. His poop is looking a little different, it's much smaller than usual. Now he stays in my bedroom only so I know he didn't get into anything and has a blockage. I'm also wondering since he's eating so much less kibble plus not getting any soy milk I know his sugar intake is much less, so his pred amount may need to be increased. I'm going to call my vet tomorrow to see if I can get him in. I want his blood sugar level checked. He seems to be a little better tonight, but I still want to get him into the vet. When I woke up this morning this was how he was sleeping on my bed. It was too cute to not take a pic! It looks like he's covering his eyes like he's not ready to get up yet lol.

That pic is so sweet. Definitely get him to the vet. Being he just had a diet change it wouldn't be surprising if his BG is a little off. That would explain his energy levels. Is the poop different as in just smaller or is it really skinny etc? Smaller is normal eating raw vs kibble. holisticferret60.proboards.com/thread/2469This is the poop chart. Not sure if you have seen it before. But the raw poops are really much smaller than the kibble fed ones.

Thanks so much for the poop chart!! I've never seen that before. His poops look a lot like the raw meat poop pic. So that makes me feel better. Unfortunately my vet wasn't in today but I have an appointment at 10:30 tomorrow morning. He seemed a little better today. A little more energy. On an even better note he ate really well tonight. I did have to hold him most of the time but he ate it all, even chewed up chicken pieces!!! So that made me happy. I will keep you posted on his vet appt tomorrow.

I wanted to keep you posted on my morning vet appointment. His BG was 42 instead of the 80 range. So my vet is having me double his pred intake. He's on a really low dose anyway. She felt his bladder and it felt fine, didn't feel like it was full. I was worried from his strain in going to the bathroom that he wasn't getting all his pee out. She does need a pee and poop sample so I'm going to work on getting those and dropping them off to her.
One of my concerns since he does had adrenal is that he's going to get crystals in his bladder which will make peeing difficult. I have dealt with this, with almost every male ferret I have had. And a big reason why I wanted to switch him off of kibble food as I know that creates the crystals. But I won't know more until I take in a sample of pee & poop.

Wow. I'm glad you took him in. Gotta get that bg in good range. Keep up the good work. I think he will do good with little pieces we will add that in soon. I would love to see him eat on his own a little better first.

I forgot to tell you he's gained an ounce since I recently took his weight according to the vet's scale. So far he seems much better now that I've increased his pred. I also got him to eat a little more than 3/4 of his food bowl on his own tonight. Then he finished a little bit more while I held him but wouldn't eat it all. But yes I would like him to eat on his own too. I'm hoping soon he gets better with it.

I'm so glad that he is feeling better. Remember if he only eats 3/4 on his own that may be enough for that sitting. You can offer it again in a couple hours.

Well here's the thing, he stops eating but as soon as I pick him and the bowl up he eats more. Plus I feed him late at night and a little while later we go to bed. So a few hours later would be in the middle of the night. Tonight I tried putting his bowl down and just walked away. He started eating it on his own and ate more than 3/4 of it without me even sitting with him. Then he ate a little more while I held him. When he was done there was just 3 small chunks of chicken left. The bowl weighed 7 oz before I have it to him and when he was done it weighed 4 3/4 oz. I also remembered to weigh his kibble bowl tonight. It is at 1 lb 1/8 oz. I will weigh his kibble bowl again in a few days. Since it's a long weekend and I'm going to be home for most of it I'm going to give him soup in the morning and see how it goes.
He definitely seems to be feeling better since his pred was increased. I've still heard him make a little noise and strain while going pee & poop. Still not sure which one he is staining to do. I'm going to assume it's most likely straining to pee. I hope next week I'm able to collect urine & feces samples to take into the vet.

I just wanted to give you a little update from the weekend. He did good with eating. But he never ate his entire bowl of food. He's still avoiding the large pieces of meat. I do see him chew some of the meat, but more small pieces. I had issues with my blender during the last batch so it was a little chunkier than I wanted. I made a new batch of soup yesterday. I will start using that in the next few days. I think this one has less chunks.
Now my only issue of concern is that I'm going out of town this weekend. I will feed him Thursday night before I leave. But I won't be home until Sunday night. I can feed him his normal meal on Sunday night. But I live with my grandparents and keep him at home, it's much less stressful on him. With my previous soup mix it was easy for my grandma to feed him for me. This is a little more difficult. Plus she hasn't given him meds before. In the past I was able to just put it in his soup when she took care of him, and it wasn't a big deal since he ate all of it. I tried showing her last night how to give him his meds and she said she couldn't do that. So I'm trying to figure things out.

I'm so sorry, I thought I responded to your last post!! Ugh I must have imagined it. I'm glad he is doing well with eating. It's OK if he doesn't clean the bowl. That just means he's full. With your gram watching him can you see if he will take his meds in just a bit of the baby food he likes? That way he eats it all and then she can offer him some soup after. But if he doesn't eat it at least he got the meds he needs. Kibble fora couple days won't be the end of the world. Getting his meds is more important.

Sorry it's taken me so long to reply. The hotel I'm at the wifi is not working and getting in here from my phone is so hard!!! But I finally got it. Yes I already thought about just giving him the meds in his baby food and that's what I'm having her do in the morning. And her & my grandpa were able to give him his meds via syringe at night. I know his meds are most important and that's what I was worried about. I'll be home late Sunday night & then we'll go from there. I'll let you know how all of it went after I get home.

Hello. So I'm back and ready with some updates for you. He ate for me last night and tonight. Now again he won't eat unless I hold him. He's eating most of the food but not all of it. And still not really most of the chunks of meat. I weighed the food tonight and his bowl was at 7 1/8 oz, when he was done it was at 5 oz. I also weighed his bowl of kibble. I had to look back in the thread to see that I initially weighed it on 8/30 and it was at 1 lb 1/8 oz. today it was at 1 lb. Clearly he really doesn't eat much kibble.
He seems okay, has a normal activity level. But I'm a little concerned knowing how little kibble he's eaten.

So all weekend he only ate 1/8 ounces kibble? How many days did he not have soup? Do you ever see him eat kibble? Did your grandparents offer him soup he ate? When your home I wouldn't be surprised to hear he doesn't eat much kibble. He eats lots of soup. Which is good.
