Yes he only ate 1/8 ounces of kibble. So when I was gone they fed him some baby food in the am with his medicine mixed in it. The first night he wouldn't eat soup for them. I think it was because it was too early. He ate the rest of the nights for them cause they fed him later. And I'm working on changing his schedule so that he eats his soup a little earlier in the evening. That way they won't have an issue the next time I go away.

Well I'm glad to hear he did eat soup for them. When he eats it more independently it may be time to offer it exclusively.

Yes he's doing much better with eating the food. I just fed him. I put the bowl down and he just ate it. He ate it all but a few pieces. I picked him up to see if he would eat any more and he wouldn't. But I don't have to sit with him anymore to eat it. Sometimes I have to tell him to eat it, lol he kind of listens to me. Other times if he's not wanting to start to eat it I put it up to his face so he can take a lick or two and then I put him and the bowl down and he will eat it. So if I start to only give him that food should I make a bowl in the morning too? And if so how many cubes should I use for the morning? I'm still using 2 cubes at night.

Oh this is awesome. I would make the all soup transition over a weekend so you can watch. I'm assuming a cube is about an oz? Try 2oz or so in the am and again in the pm. That would likely be more than be needs but you can adjust according to what he is leaving I or add more I'd he is emptying his dish. Typical would be 2-4 ounces a day. He seems to have a good appetite do he may be on the higher end. You Ready for the next step? ! Try slivering teeny tiny pieces of chicken about the size of your pinky finger Nail. Add about 5 per meal. Over the next while that number will slowly increase them we can move the size up. I recommend bagging up little slivers and bagging them and freezing a good size batch so you always have some on hand.

He's getting even better with his eating. The past few nights I have just put his food bowl down and he's eaten from it. Tonight I put the bowl down, he ate. I was cleaning. He ate most of it, I left the bowl down cause that's just what I usually do. Within a few minutes he went back to the bowl and ate the rest. No chunks left. Two nights ago he ate it all but one small chunk. Ok I will just feed him the soup over the weekend. And I will weigh the food before. Now the chicken you want me to cut up and add in, I assume that will also be boneless chicken thighs with the skin on them?

Yay! Great progress. Continue to just put his food down for him. Remember if he doesn't eat it all right away (or at all) that is OK. Just weight to see how much he has eaten. This weekend feed him more in the AM so he has some to go back to throughout the day. No kibble is getting close!!! Yes the chicken thighs would be fine. No bone yet. Bag up lots at a time, since slivering meat that small is kinda painful! Doing it once a week or so is much more bearable than daily! Are you adding baby food or anything to his soupie?

On Saturday morning I made up his soup. I weighed 2 cubes and it was 1 7/8 oz, and I did add some baby food to it. He ate it all. I've been giving him 2 cubes morning and night with a little baby food in each bowl. He has been eating ALL of it!!!! I really doubt he's touching his kibble at all. But I've been keeping it in his cage just incase he gets hungry. I will get some chicken today to cut up and try it.

Awesome! ! That's great! I think he's almost ready to ditch the kibble. Try counting out some pieces and see how long it lasts him.

Good morning!! I wanted to keep you posted. I'm continuing to feed him soup morning and night. He's eating either all of it or almost all of it. But he has yet to eat the additional pieces I'm putting in. I will remove most of his kibble tonight and just put a few pieces in that I can easily count. I will keep you posted.

Sounds good. Make sure the pieces you add are very small. Size of the crescent of your pinky Nail.

The sizes are all really small. Smaller than my pinky nail. I'm hoping that maybe in time he starts to eat them?

the crescent of your small pinky nail - its the white part of the nail next to the skin. I know the size seems ridiculously small (it is) but it is the starting point where it is easier for them to just swallow and get used to pieces texture. Start with about 5 of these teeny pieces and you can slowly increase the amount as he accepts them.

Oh ok. I thought it was the size of the nail not the crescent. Wow that is small. Ok I'm going to have to cut the pieces even smaller. The good news is I was having issues with his food this morning and was only able to put one piece of the cut up meat in his soup. And he ate ALL of his soup!!!! (dance)

I have an update for you. I cut up the pieces of food much smaller. So far he ate all the small pieces of food all weekend I'm really happy about that! Now in some of the cubes of food there were bigger chunks of meat or the skin from the chicken thighs that didn't grind up well that he didn't eat. But more times than not his bowl was completely licked clean!!!! And I'm not sitting with him at all to eat.
