Oh this is good news!!!! So is the kibble out for good? If not I think it should be Wow he's doing so well! Now that he is accepting a few small pieces try a few more in his dish. Not to many more but maybe 5 more or so. We will work up in amount then slowly increase the size.

I still have his kibble dish in his cage. There are 6 pieces in the dish and he hasn't touched it. But I can completely remove it. I can also add more pieces to his soup. Should I increase the size of the pieces at all? I weighed him last night. He's at 3 lbs 8 oz, now to refresh your memory his initial weight on 8/4 was 3 lbs 1 oz.
He also needs another deslorelin implant but I've read on here that they won't be available until mid November. I called my vet and they are out and have to order one. He's also going back and forth with straining to go to the bathroom. I'm not sure what's going on so I'm going to get him back into the vet. I also notice in the middle of the night he's going to the bathroom about every 3 hours. I know he hasn't always gone that frequently.

Hmm I hope he isn't staining due to an enlarged prostate with his adrenal gland disease. I would take him for a check up Just in case. He sure is packing in the weight! Lol. Little piggy. Just continue to increase the amount of slivers until you have a good dozen or so. Also, add less water when making the soupy so it is thicker. Once he is really eating up the pieces well you can increase size to about half your pinky Nail. Start with just a few larger and then increase the amount of the larger ones. We will continue this until he is eating good size pieces and the soup is more of a topper.

I took him to my regular vet on Wednesday. I went in with a pee and poo sample. His pee has no signs of crystals in it. But he did have a little diarrhea and the previous night I saw him strain to poo. She also took x-rays and everything inside looked ok including his prostate. She gave some meds for the diarrhea. But it isn't getting better. I called back today and she suggested I take him in for an abdominal ultrasound. Unfortunately she doesn't do that. So I have an appointment with a different vet Monday morning. So I will keep you posted on all of that.
Thanks for the info on the soup. I have to make another batch in the next day or two so I will decrease the amount of water in it. Now how often should I stay in contact with you about his food/eating habits?

Continue every 2 days until he is off of soup. If he is having some runny poos you could add a touch more egg shell powder. Keep me updated on his ultrasound. Hoping everything looks good.

I took him into the vet yesterday. The vet I took him to is very well known throughout the United States for being a wonderful ferret vet. Unfortunately he has the prices to match lol. Frisky pooed in the office so he was able to see it. It still looks a little gel-ish even with the fact that he's on metronidazole. He wonders if he also has IBD. He breathing is also a little heavy. My vet sent over all the records including x-rays she took last week. He is concerned that his heart looks a little enlarged on the xray and says something is definitely going on with his prostate causing his pee problems. However, he doesn't actually do the ultrasounds. There is some ultrasound person and they have to come to the office. So I'm waiting to hear back as to when the ultrasound person can be there and I will take Frisky back. Then we will go from there with treatment. Frisky is still doing good with his food though. I've completely removed his kibble bowl from his cage. He either eats all the food or most of it. I made another batch of soup 2 night ago and used a little less water. I've also cut up some of the pieces of chicken to be not so tiny. This morning I actually saw him eating and literally chewing on a piece of chicken. I was so happy to see that!!!

Oh boy I hope that everything is ok with frisky. Poor guy. Keep me updated with the ultrasound. What are they going to do for his prostate? And Any idea why his heart is enlarged? Poor guy give him a big hug from me and my 5. I'm so glad he is eating all his pieces. How many do you add now? Continue a slow increase. And son we will try a few pieces a little bigger. I remember what a pain it was to cut up those teeny little pieces.
Ps. Sorry I didn't post sooner. My female dog is in heat and had been driving my male dog crazy. I needed to take my boy to my bf who is in school in another city. It's not far but I just couldn't take it. I felt like I was going crazy. I put up with the insanity for 8 days. She is still in heat so wish me luck when they come home tomorrow. .. And I'm hosting thanksgiving this weekend. .. (headwall)

What kind of dog do you have? How interesting that your Thanksgiving is this weekend. What do you guys normally have for Thanksgiving? Good luck with all of that. It sounds like you're going to have your hands full!!!
So I went back today for the ultrasound. They called me a couple days ago with his blood test results and said that he has some kind of infection. The ultrasound showed that he has no stones and his prostate actually looks really good. Unfortunately his enlarged heart is caused by him having cardiomyopathy. So now I have a third disease to add on to Frisky's illnesses. The vet believes his heart problems are causing the strain to pee. He's going to put Frisky on meds for this but it has to go through a special pharmacy that has to compound the medicine. He also saw something on his liver, so they took some blood from there and send it off to the lab. I should have those results back Monday and he believes that's where the infection is.
I haven't exactly counted the pieces but I'm adding quite a few. I wanna say 10-12 pieces of food. And he's eating with no problems! Thank you!!!!

Oh you are doing awesome. I hope that friskys problem is an infection that can easily be treated. I have a male doberman ams a female yorkie. Thankfully she is back to normal so the household is a little more sane. I will be making turkey, potatoes, veggies, stuffing , pie etc. I was given the turkey. . Which is great but it is almost 30lbs!! Yikes. I have never cooked a turkey or hosted a big meal and I'm given that behemoth to cook. Lol.

How interesting that you guys eat the same stuff for your Thanksgiving that we eat for ours. This is awesome having you as a mentor. I get to learn about stuff in Canada too!!! So how did it turn out? I can cook but I have never attempted anything big like a turkey. Glad to hear your dog situation is settled. Otherwise I would say your poor Yorkie and the thought of her having half Doberman puppies! Frisky is still doing really well with his food. This morning I even saw him chewing away at some of the chicken pieces. He's literally eating his whole bowl of food. Sometimes he might eat all but one or two pieces. But overall he's eating the whole bowl. Now I do have a little trick. Some times he eats the entire bowl. Other times he eats it all except for multiple pieces of chicken. He's on 4 meds right now. After he eats I give him his meds. Once he takes all of them he gets his treat of ferretone. I put that in the bowl with the pieces of chicken and then he will eat the rest, if there are any left. I know you said awhile ago to switch him to something other than ferretone. But he didn't like the olive oil. And it's literally the only treat he gets.

The turkey turned out well! It was kinda stressful though. Just a lot to do for hosting that I have never done before! Im soooooo glad the dogs have settled. I felt on the verge of going insane! Lol. I am so impressed with Mr. Frisky! How many pieces do you think you are adding? Lets keep increasing that number. I would like to see that his soup is looking more like a gravy on his pieces. As for the oils, have you tried salmon oil? If he really likes ferretone and it is a once in a while thing it is probably fine. Other people still do use it but there are better options. But not all ferrets like all types of oil either.

I'm trying to add at least 10-12 pieces of meat to his dish. I had to make more soup last night. I made it a little thicker, but I will continue to make it thicker. I also cut up pieces of chicken, some I kept small but others I cut a little bigger. I'm going to make a few more batches over the weekend. Now that I'm adding less water making one batch isn't very much.
I've never even heard of salmon oil. Is that something you can just get at the grocery store???
Glad to hear your turkey turned out good!

Thanks for that info. I will have to investigate.
Frisky is still doing good with his eating. I took him back into the vet on Saturday and his weight is now at 4 lbs. He's my heaviest and most expensive ferret to date. I made more soup over the weekend and it seems pretty thick to me. What used to make 2 ice cube trays is now around 1 tray. I've measured it out and I'm using about 3/4 of a cup of water to the soup. I also am cutting some of the pieces of chicken a little larger to add into it. Unfortunately, I'm still working on getting his health up to par.

His health is definitely number 1. I understand the expensive part. A sick ferret seems to rack up crazy bills. Good luck with getting dealt with. I'm impressed with his weight. Big Boy! Let me know how the soup works out. Try it without adding water and see how he does. If it is to thick and he isn't accepting it just add a little water until he accepts it. Keep adding those pieces. One he is on pieces he may slow down on eating. Soupie can bring the piggy out if them, since it is so easy to eat.
