Oh and also is he shedding? Mine are switching seasons and Kenai always looks like Skeletor when he blows his coat. He's in full winter FLOOF right now but prior to that he was ghastly looking. lol Koda's the one coat blowing now - so nice of them to take turns. lol

Weellll I didn't want to jinx it by telling you before I fed him but I doubled the size of his mouse chunks today and he did GREAT! All I took out was the digestive track this time and he dug right in. Ate about 1/4 cup in a sitting. I'm excited! I want to up the size of the chunks again on Monday or Tuesday if he stays consistent with eating these ones. My stubborn little pooper...happily munching mice. (dance) He does seem to be doing a little more chewing on bowls lately, which is odd. No sign of anything wrong in his mouth though, and his poops seem dark but he's also been mostly eating black mice. Something to keep an eye on.

WOOT!!!! (dance) Yaaaay Remus!!!! Keep it up! Definitely up the size soon. RE the Guinea Pig, are you going to keep chunking that for him? Obviously a whole adult GP is more than one meal, so I'm just curious how you plan to divide that up for him. Let's start working on some menus again, using all 3 prey he is eating and whatever additional Frankenprey you want to incorporate for variety so we can do some balance checks. When you have time, please post a menu.

I had been planning on chunking them and feeding them over the course of a week, same with the rabbits...I think I remember you saying that doing that keeps them balanced? Or was that someone else?

Next batch of mice is going to be cut in half lengthwise with the digesstive track out.

Can you give me an example of a whole prey menu that incorporates prey larger than mice and rats? Because what I had been thinking was like, work through a rabbit, then alternate mice and rats for two weeks, then work our way through a guinea pig, then alternate mice and rats for two weeks, etc etc.

I was away for the weekend but my petsitter said he ate like a little garbage disposal. ^.^ He wasn't very hungry when I fed him today but when I get home I'll see how he does. He has the mice cut in half lengthwise tonight.

Yup, he was cleaning his plate and then trying to steal from the cat. Ha. Is it unusual for them to have trouble crunching through mouse skulls? I keep finding heads that he's clearly chewed on but hasn't been able to finish. M

I could give you some better menu ideas if I knew how many meals a single GP and a single rabbit are. Give me an estimate there and I'll come up with something for you.

GP may be too thick without being smashed open.

It looks like he are two mousy halves while I was at work. Skulls and all, unless he stashed them somewhere. When your boys have mouse for a meal about how much do they eat?

He did SO GOOD with his halves this morning. Ate most of two pieces. I have enough halves left to last through tomorrow night, then I'll try ones cut open with the digestive track out.

He is doing so great! See my prev post (above) and I can give you better menu help. Even a really rough estimate is fine like 1 rabbit = 10 meals 1 GP = 4.

I still have to get a weight on the GPs I have. They're about the size of your average pet guinea pig or larger, so I think they'll be more than 4 meals. And I don't have any rabbit yet so I can't get a weight on them.
