I found out I can get 2-3lb whole prey rabbits at a local store for $10 and it's so tempting to get some NOW and take him off frankenprey rabbit...but I'm gonna hold out for the $1/pound ones that should be available in a couple months.

Yes, large GPs are perfectly fine. It will be good for him to start chewing on slightly bigger bones too. lol I'm glad he did well today! Up the ratio a bit more with the next meal. Push push push!

So the local pet store whole prey was kind of a bust...they said they CAN'T actually order anything for me and they only get rabbits and guinea pigs rarely...it sounded like maybe they only get them when their supplier for pets has a cull? But they did have one large one that I got. I'm gonna use up the rest of the 1/3 mixture and I have one guinea pig and six mice thawing, which should come out to about even or a little more mouse than guinea pig.

He did well with dinner too. Still haven't had to hand feed or anything. His upper lip (where the lower canine hits it) is looking quite red...should I take him to the vet or add some CS to a couple days to help speed healing/prevent infection?

Yay! He is eating the mice chunks okay then? Next meal maybe try mice only and see what he thinks. For his lip putting a little CS on it directly might not hurt but if it continues being an issue a vet trip may be in order. I'll ask Heather what she did for her boys who had teeth pulled...

So far he's eating them okay, yeah, but he definitely ate around a leg this evening. I'm a little hesitant to jump to just mice from here, I think I want to keep easing up to it. The last couple of times I tried to speed him along and it didn't work well at all.

Remus did soooo good with his breakfast this morning! Should I add another mouse to the mix I have, or wait until I run out of what's there and try mouse by itself?

Saw him very purposefully pick up and eat a mouse leg this morning. And I keep findin the heads in the corner of the cage kinda crunched up but not eaten.

LOL Well we need to get him EATING the heads - that's where all of the yummy brains are! Good boy though Remus, keep it up!!! Definitely make the pieces significantly bigger in the next batch you prep.

The last couple of meals I notice him really working to sniff out the pieces of guinea pig and eat those first...so I think I am going to make the next batch JUST mice. Also I heard him crunching today and found him eating a stashed guinea pig face.

!!! I left him a little plate of just mouse overnight and when I got home he'd thrown some pieces around but I couldn't quite tell if he'd eaten any--but I think so. When I got his breakfast around he was a little hesitant at first but I added like 5 drops of salmon oil to the plate and once he got going he finished a little less than half. Woohoo!
