I am committed to switching our 2 fuzzbutts to a raw food, carnivorous diet. With that in mind. I have been looking at Hare Today as a source for healthy food. I saw a duck grind with bones and organs. I thought if that was an acceptable ratio I could just use that to make soupy with. There are other protein sources to choose from as well, but after reading the info I have on this board, it seems to me that the higher fat content in the duck would be be healthier for them. Thoughts? Feedback?

There are other protein sources to choose from as well, but after reading the info I have on this board, it seems to me that the higher fat content in the duck would be be healthier for them. Thoughts? Feedback? I recommend choosing as many proteins as you can. You would probably be best to find meats locally for a cheaper price, but Hare Today is fine if you don't mind paying for bulk. Hare Today actually has a super great variety for meat as a whole rather than grinds. I'd be so on that if we had a similar service for Australia. If I recall, Hare Today grinds may be a bit heavy on the bone content so if you do decide on using their ground meat products, watch the stools. If you find the ferrets have dry stools, you could probably add some ground up muscle meat to the mix to even it out a bit. Yes, higher fat content would be great, but with all diets it should be in moderation. Rather than choose all "higher fat" content foods, just go for more variety of proteins with fattier cuts of meat in mind. You don't want to over do it with the fat anyway so no need for adding any extra fat in the diet. However, the more variety of proteins will give more variety of nutrients anyway. As long as you go like that, you don't need to worry about anything too much. Everything will even out with variety of all the meals and meat types.

You'll want to give the ferret as much soup as they're willing to eat. Since ice cubes can vary in size, you'll want to track the amount food you give them by weight. Some people weigh the food before and after feeding to tell how much was eaten.

oh okay got it! what about the soup texture? like water soup like chicken noodle or more of a thicker soup like clam chowder? just to get the idea of how much water and/or chicken broth to put in

In general, people here have ferrets work toward thick soup (ie. pudding consistency). You could start with it thick, as it's easy to thin out by adding a little more warm water if the ferrets aren't going for it yet. By the time they eat thick soup, you can start adding small pieces of meat, or just grind up the meat a little more coarsely.

I have Rabbit - hearts- liver and kidney And I have breast with bone (Can I just debone these for the 8oz of chicken?) Drying egg shells
Can I use these in a raw soup for my 3 month old ferret Also have chicken wings but would like to save for when he can eat edible bone
He came to me eating kibble but seems like eat would love raw ( acting slightly aggressive over crumbs he finds or smell's on our hands )
Any help on how to transition him would be very helpful
I have access to chicken Rabbit Pork Beef Goat Lamb What is the healthiest but most affordable cuts for making them last a month at a time .

At his age I'd try just giving him whole meats and skipping the soup stage

Help with 4 month old male ferret diet ?
Hey I have a 4 month old male ferret just transitioned to soupie raw was on marshall kibble when I bought him at 3 month
Please let me know if I'm doing this correctly he seems to be gaining weight ( was 2lbs when I weighed him the other day and really enjoying the soupie ( eats it before it thaws lol)
1 batch 6-8 cubes depending on thickness I usually make it not to soupie)
8oz of chicken(thigh, drum, wing or breast) (Usually use ck. With some fat on it but sometimes use breast if on sale) Usually try to stick to one kind per batch
2 rabbit hearts can't find chicken hearts 1 rabbit kidney(if I need to use more let me know )
1/2 tbs of powdered egg shell
Batch 2 (6-8 cubes depending on thickness)
8 Oz chicken same as above 2 rabbit hearts 1/2 a rabbit liver( isn't very much if I need more let me know 1/2 tbs of powdered eggshells
Haven't tried real bone with him yet as I don't want him to break a tooth plus he doesn't seem interested in unblended meat
Once in a while he gets half a raw mixed egg seems to only handle half gave him a whole raw egg and puked it up but that was when he wasn't in raw yet now has no problem eating egg
So far 1 batch lasts about 4 days then I switch to the second batch he eats about 4-5 cubes depending on how active he is that day I find if I have him out a lot he eats 5 cubes a day he just ran out of kibble and I don't want him on it anymore so hopefully I can completely switch as he seems to really enjoy the soupie cubes
Please let me know if I need other meat or when I should try with bone or if he is missing anything Thanks
