1/2 liver? As in 1/2 oz? I was told and have been feeding 8oz theigh, 1oz heart, 1 Oz liver, and 3/4tsp bone meal. Is this wrong??? No, you have the correct recipe - half of a chicken liver is roughly one ounce. The correct recipe by weight is 8oz muscle, 1oz heart, 1oz liver, and 1-2-3/4tsp bonemeal/eggshell.

It may be worth editing the first post to clarify with ounce amounts in parentheses. I remember being confused by this when I was new here.

How do you store eggshell powder and how long does it last?

How do you store eggshell powder and how long does it last? I store mine in a small container and keep it in the fridge. It's not entirely necessary though, It can be stored in a pantry or something. I just find it more convenient for me. It may last a really long time since the egg shell is almost pure calcium and apparently does not rot, nor does it become subject to bacterial invasion or fungal issues.

Thanks! The bacterial growth was what I was worried about.

Thanks! The bacterial growth was what I was worried about. Just don't let the eggs themselves sit too long. I once forgot I was drying some eggs out in the summertime and found them rather green and fuzzy looking. A day or two is enough. Good luck with the soup. Remember that the key is working with Enzio, Tautaum and Wampa will do best with you there to reassure them that this new food is actually food. :wave3:

So I have started feeding my ferrets Soupie.... they love it and are more interested in it than their kibble. But my concern is how long I can let the Soupie sit out? I read somewhere 3-4 hours? But what about when I leave for work (8 hours) or go to sleep? I know the will get hungry then... especially my kit who eats all the time. Also, how do I keep their cage sanitized after they eat? They are making a mess and I don't want to get them sick from the germs left in the cage.

If you have kits, get them on chunks asap. It should be fairly easy with them. If they are readily accepting the soup now, try giving them pieces the size of your pinkie nail to start and just top them with some soup if they don't try them right off.

Okay! I didn't blend the soupie to a puree, so it's pretty chunky. When my kit eats them, he fights the chunk for a minute then sets it aside.
Can I leave the soupie out overnight?

So...what is the longest I can leave it out before it goes bad? I have a stubborn one who doesn't want to eat til he's starving.

Oh, then he absolutely cannot be left with no kibbles for longer times. We never completely remove it until they are eating the soup willingly on their own. Work with him with hand feeding so he fills up on the soup
