Gizzards are healthy, but they don't provide the needed taurine which is why heart is one of the critical parts of the diet. Gizzards are also generally too tough and will destroy a blender. If heart isn't available, you can get a powdered taurine supplement to use instead.

Depends entirely on the ferret. However you will find once kibble is gone appetites will go through the roof for a month or so I would plan on 3-7oz a day minimum for two

Hi Sherry, They have both slowed down on the soupies in the last week considerably and have quit eating kibble at night completely....they dont even touchthe kibble at all...I left it out at night so they don't starve...so basically they have gone from about four large cubes per ferret every 3-4 hrs down to about 2 cubes cut in half for 4 smaller portions per ferret over 12-16 hr period....I figured thats because its been over a month now on soupies.... The bummer is I just bought a bag of wysongs digestive support with a 3 day delivery rate of 42$ plus the price of the food and they wont even touch it!!!!..I know I want them off kibble but it does have some good balancing ingredients in it...and now their even starting to eat slivers...next I wanna try grinding up wing tips...the nice part about the soup is farah takes her meds well in the soupies... Prednisone 0.2 and diazoxide 0.25 for a month now...got her a glucometer too...just wondering how often I should check her....

I ment to say 3-4 cubes per ferret a day feedings being every 3 hrs from 730 am with meds till 730 at night when she gets her meds again.... Now its like 2 cubes a day cut in half for 4 servings a day per ferret ...every 5 or 6 hrs...so basically half the food over double the time....I was worried at first but since they eat it with an appetite I just figured it was due to the fact its been a month now....time for new proteins... ?

Quick question about the recipe. I'm using cow heart since I cant find chicken hearts locally. How many oz of the cow heart should I use for a substitute. My beethoven isn't wanting to eat the nasty kibble from wall mart and the closest marshalls that he is used to is over 60 miles away. I thought I would try the soup and see how he liked it before I made a food run.

Found the answer. 2 oz heart, 2 oz liver per batch.

It should be more along the lines of 1 ounce heart and 1 ounce liver per 8 ounces of muscle meat.

I realize each ferret is different, but what is a good amount of time to be on soup before they start to eat chunks of meat?
I've had River (8mo female) on soup for almost 2 weeks now. Took her cold turkey from kibble to raw. She loves soup, absolutely loves it. Chunks of meat....not so much.
I have been adding some ground beef, ground turkey and ground pork to the soup to introduce her to new flavours and today she ate some ground turkey after she'd licked all the soup off so it was as solid as ground turkey will get. But chunks of meat or bone-in meat she has absolutely no interest in. I've tried square versus slivers of meat, thick and very very thin. She eats around it or just plain takes it out of her bowl and finishes the soup. LOL
Have I let her get too used to soup? Or am I expecting too much from her?

If she's eating soup full time and has eaten some ground meat, she's probably ready for some small chunks. The more meat there compared to soup, the more she'll be tempted to eat it in order to get her fill.

When you say 1/2 chicken liver is that like cut the liver in half or 1/2 oz (idk how big a chicken liver is normally but i would think they come in different sizes)

It's an approximation, but like you said, livers aren't always the same size or even always intact so I always just weigh everything. It would be 8 oz. muscle meat, 1 oz. heart and 1 oz. liver plus 1/2 to 3/4 tsp of eggshell or bone meal.

You can yes. But odds are it is just that he is having an issue with the texture right now. I would persist with what you are doing, and start a thread here: holisticferret60.proboards.com/board/66/diet-transitionsThat way you can keep track in one place and get some excellent feedback
