They (mostly Minnie) need/want a snack almost every day when I get home from school. Usually I check their poos & if they're soft, I'll give them something with bone. Otherwise, I give them just muscle meat. Most organ mornings, they get a snack w/ bone. For example, I have wing tips thawed for this afternoon since they had liver this morning. Then backs and tails for tonight.
I wasn't sure whether to add the snacks to the menu or not, because I gave them enough liver for a full meal. But I know they're both going to be hungry again before tonight. So since a 'meal' is what they eat in a 12 hour period, their wing tips are technically part of their morning meal. But if I put those in the menu, then it looks like they're only having a half meal of liver, when actually they're just being little piggies. Now if their liver isn't gone when I get home, they don't get anything else until they finish that.

so how many ounces estimate are the liver and kidney per week? Totally missed that.. sorry. Liver this morning was 6 oz. Kidney & tongue together for Thurs am is 6 oz (I think there's a little more kidney than tongue). That's 4-4.5 oz for Minnie, 1.5-2 oz for Slinkee. Minnie's daily total is about 8-9 oz, Slinkee's is 2.5-4, depending on what's on the menu. I forgot to weigh them yesterday. I'll do that when I get home & let you know their weights. Minnie does have a cute little pudgy tummy now, and a little layer of fat over her ribs

Snacks are fine and if you need to give more of the organs or bone in meats that is a good way to do it.

Well, either Minnie is beginning to slow down to a reasonable amount of food or she's having an off day. She didn't eat her chicken backs last night, possibly because I served them whole whereas last time they had backs I scraped most of the meat off and crushed some of the bone. She ate fine this morning, 4 hearts and 2 chunks of tongue to Slinkee's 1 heart and 1 chunk of tongue. But tonight they have chicken wings which she loves and she's not eating much. She usually eats 2 sections & Slinkee one, but together they've only eaten one so far.
Weights are the same, they both still have pudge around the middle, output is still good, and energy levels are HIGH. Minnie is a crazy little wild child, bouncing around the room like a ping-pong ball. She looks like a little hedgehog when she gets excited with all of her hair standing up on end. So they seem to be fine, in spite of not eating much.
It is getting hot here, and their room was a little warmish yesterday and today, so that probably has something to do with it too. I've turned the air conditioner on now, so tomorrow will be cooler.

OK, never mind. They just wanted me to post that so I'd feel like an idiot half an hour later when they're fighting over the last little chunk of bone...

Minnie is just plain fat today I picked her up and 'dangled' her and she's just a little round ball of fluff. I almost can't feel her ribs anymore. And energy is off the charts! She's a funny little thing boinging around the room. Her fur is super soft and her tail smells like grapes Even her poos are smelling less bad. Slinkee has adjusted to having a baby in the house. He likes to get her all riled up, then climb the gate and sit on the other side gloating because he's free and she's not. Just like my skin-kids, I tell ya! But he looks for her to snuggle when he's tired, and when she's tired he lets her climb on top of him to suck on his ear, even when he's not ready for bed. I was shocked last night when she climbed into the cage to sleep and he stopped eating, followed her to the bed and laid down to 'put her to sleep'. That's the only way I can think to describe it, because once she passed out, he got right back up and finished eating, then went to play. Food-wise we're doing fine this week. I have amounts just about right so far... finally. They usually have a tiny bit left for Libby (stoopid dog) when I serve their next meal. They have chicken backs on the menu again this week, so I'll try breaking them up a little again and see how that goes. Poos are as normal as they can be on raw, I suppose. Most of them are getting in the box now, so that makes me happy. Going to cram for finals now...

Congratulations :boing:  You've graduated and you're ready to walk this path alone, now . You have the foundation to help you feed your fuzzes in a more natural and healthy manner. Please remember that your learning never stops, and dietary needs change from ferret to ferret and throughout each their lives. I would like you to be aware that though you now have the capability and the knowledge to create your little ones diets you are never alone and that your mentor (you need only pm) is always available to you. The list is also a very good resource and you should always be aware that it's available to answer any questions you may have either about diet or care. Good luck, in a few days either Sherry or I will lock down this thread and place it in the archives but be aware that you can always look through it as a reference tool but you just will not be able to post to it. Your mentor will be in to congratulate you shortly (wave) . ciao

YAYYY!!! Thank you for everything. I'm pretty sure I would have lost my mind a few weeks back without you there telling me to chill, lol. Everything seems to be getting back into a routine at my house after the addition of the little Menace. She's stolen everyone's hearts.. along with 3 socks, 1 bag of marshmallows, 2 ink pens, the dog's water bowl, and the vacuum cleaner attachments. And the Slinks, as always, is my bestest man. I love that boy!

Oh, and that (unopened and unchewed) bag of marshmallows... she was sleeping on it behind the piano. Apparently, marshmallows make good pillows.
