Many of you may have read by other thread about the loss of Smokey to grand mal seizures. Today one our newer rescues that came in as a stray was diagnosed with insolinoma. I wish companies weren't permitted to sell carb filled ferret foods.
On the up side, two of our babies found a forever home yesterday with a family that has two female ferrets already. We also had two chinchillas dropped off that were saved from being dumped in the woods. The guy did a great job saving them. The girls have barked at me a few times today, but are starting to settle in. They are fur bitting, but I hear they spent the last year alone in a basement. We plan to order them a wheel asap. Unfortunately chin sized wheels must be special ordered.

First/ congrats on the adoptions!!! Forever homes are always wonderful news I'm so sorry you have another insu boy. I wonder if that's why they abandoned him? And I could not begin to imagine the sort of moronic personality that could even consider letting a chin go in the woods ;'(

I moved the chins to a larger cage and they did not want me to pick them up. One kicked at me. However, they settled down in my hands and seem to like the new area. They are in a single level of a ferret nation at the moment.

More good news. Chestnut, a 4-5 month old baby that came in has been adopted by family that includes another ferret. Bonus: They have started offering raw.

New arrival: Herman. He is a sweet lap ferret. He is eight years old, which maxes out our senior population. He was being fed Zupreem grain free, so I'm happy about the grain free. I suspect adrenal, but at his age that is almost to be expected.

Oh poor lad So unfair! I assume you are getting him off that stuff ASAP given the extremely strong links with cystine stones?

Sherry, I've started mixing in our kibbles with his. I'm told he is picky, so it may take time. He has tried them though. Herman goes to the vet tomorrow.
On a side note, Buddy, our nearly bald adrenal boy is finally starting to regrow some hair. He had his melatonin implant months ago. I was about to give up.
Also, Copper, our boy who had a mystery back injury months ago is now wrestling some with the others. He started walking with holding his body up a few weeks ago. We were thrilled to see him playing yesterday. Sweet wardy baby.
Our two insolinoma boy are doing well on the meds. I'm also getting them to eat some raw soupie so that should help.

Glad your sickies are showing improvement. While I may not always respond, I like hearing your updates. I am always thankful that there are people like you who take the time to help fuzzies in need

Great news. Sandy and Danny arrived January of 2013 and went to a foster home in late spring, early summer. They just went to their forever home today.

Weird few months. The end of 2013 was full of surrenders, to the point of putting people on waiting lists. Now we have almost every adoptable ferret adopted. WOW! We have an adoption pending on a bonded pair. That leaves us a trio, Panda (attacks other animals, but great with people), a single six year old, Brutus (not descente and mostly blind also only eats raw) who has been with us nearly a year and a half and is being moved to permanent residence so he can have buddies, he is also serving as our mascot, and fivr elders, four of which are ill. We just received another application too. What a huge turn of events!
