Instead of adding a new thread every time I have somethign exciting to post about the rescue, I'm going to start a thread that I can just update.
Excitement for this weekend was a reunion. A few weeks ago a family posted on our facebook page about a missing ferret. This weekend I was contacted about a found ferret. With the help of the site, the ferret found was identified as the lost one and returned home. I really like happy endings! That is the second reunion we've had in the last month or two.

Yes. The family is estatic. They didn't think they were going to get her back and were considering adopting, but her making it back home is so much better of an ending to the story. I wasn't sure about putting up the facebook page at first, but I'm so happy I did.

Two of our newst arrivals went to the vet today. One is estimated to be 6 months old and loves to bear hug your leg to get your attention and the other is a year old. I don't think they will be too hard to find homes for. I'm just thrilled that they don't need dental work! I've had my fill of ferrets with that problem these past few months.

Adelay received her first HCG shot today. I have my fingers crossed that it does the trick for her and she doesn't have full blown adrenal. This past weekend we had a new arrival, Panda. A very sweet and loved ferret who is the victum of uncaring landlords. Also, we now have a paypal account. Donations will first go to food and then to paying off our vet bill. Here is the link for those that have asked: www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=GXA6FN9DK3XCEMore than anything, I want to thank everyone for the continued encouragement. I know that after dealing with joe public's bad side, I can always come here and be recharged.

I honestly don't understand some landlords. In some ways I think they enjoy the power tripping

From what I was hearing, it very well may be a power trip. It sounded like the owner is failing to provide the legally required upkeep too.

The rescue is going through a hard time right now. I can't find a vet that has des implants. The only vet I found that said they had the implants actually has melentonin implants. Does anyone knw where to order these from? If I can get that information, I can probably get one of the vets to order it.
Yesterday was a nightmare. Long story somewhat short, we took in five ferrets and a chinchilla. Three female ferrets are about as thin as a flashlight. Very malnurished and starving. One is blind in one eye, and the fifth is nearly starved to death. His entire spine is protruding to the point where the bare ribs meet the spine. Two of the girls have had an ear sliced off and the third has a tattered ear. They are suppose to be from different sources. The partially blind one tried to attack me when I pulled him from the cage. All need on a very bland diet in very small portions until their bodies adjust to actually having real food. The only food in the cages were dried corn on the cob and millet seed. My rescue partner said she didn't see water in the cages either. I had to drop every last dollar I had to buy another cage and some supplies. I made them some natures variety instinct beef churned into soupie with ferrettone and olive oil last night. The first thing every one of them did in the cage was take some soupie. Thankfully they did not over-do it. Then they rubbed themselves on the blankets. Their old cage was pine shavings. The poops this morning were promising that we will be able to pull them all through it. We also rescued a chinchilla that may be pregnant. It looks like we will have to wait up to five months to see if she has any babies.
I'm overwhlemed at the moment. The condition these ferrets were in makes me sick to my stomach. I really hope some adoptions come through to lighten the load and provide funds to buy the next round of food. Sorry to rant, I just need to let it out so I can go back to cleaning with a smile for my little furbutts.

I am so sorry for all the stress you must be under. And yes, I really hate humans sometimes Those poor little babies Thank you for taking them in and giving them a home, no matter how temp or perm it may be! To answer your question, I know of at least two vets here in Tampa that get the des in: Northbay Animal and Bird Hospital (all locations I think) www.tampabayvets.net/location/north-bayMy vet is Dr.Helmer - he is the ferret vet at these hospitals. Animal Doctors of South Tampa animaldoctorstampa.com I know someone else on the Forum uses Dr.Chad Hall here. Hopes this helps!
