It is so frustrating. Good poop, followed by three gross poops. Two good poops, so you think you've finally turned the corner, only to have three bad ones after. It doesn't help he hates his food and really wants to eat his kibbles. Not allowed sunny. I got some canned Go! Duck to see if he likes that one. He likes the recovery, but it's chicken and when he eats that, it literally looks like recovery coming out. I'm keeping him hydrated well and feed him every 4 hours. I'm going to bump his feeding to 25ml so I don't have to bother him so much. It's not good for their mouth to eat so often with all those enzymes in there. They can burn their mouth and throat. I'll just keep on doing what I'm doing and hopefully (soon would be nice) he will turn the corner.

Skimming through. It could be a pancreatic deficiency but that should show up on his labs.... What do his poops look like? Has your vet done pancreas enzymes - amylase, lipase?
I see no reason why he can't eat a normal sized meal after having a biopsy done...after all 3 of my boys' operations (all of which involved cutting the intestines open, one of which involved a biopsy as well) we were NEVER Told anything about restricting intake - just to avoid bones for a few days. I'm not saying ignore the vet, but I would not starve him either. I should think more frequent smaller meals would be more than fine. Did she biopsy his stomach or his small intestine? Any chance she also snagged a pancreas biopsy while she was in there...?
Were you able to get any Carnivore Care?

Sounds like you need pancreatic enzymes and real food. Kibble is. .. kibble.

When IBD gets to a certain point, this happens. I have seen it. I have seen one of my ferrets turn around and eat his liquidy poops because it came out smelling and looking exactly the same as it went down. You should give probiotics and add mercola pet digestive enzymes to soft food at least 20 minutes before serving.

Turns out he does have IBD. But even with giving him a meat that he has never had before we still couldn't get rid of his diarrhea. I though I was going to lose him over the weekend because it got so bad that even subq fluids weren't keeping him very hydrated. I had to do very small amounts of subq to keep it in him. He was literally leaking water out his butt and didn't even know. Started him today on prednisone again at 0.7mg twice a day. It will be 1mg/kg, but he doesn't even weigh 1kg anymore. He's bones. BUT, his IBD is weird. He needs metronidazole too, because for some strange reason. The pred alone won't control it. He's finally not dehydrated. It was a very long weekend with many calls to my vet. I think that if we didn't put him on enzymes he wouldn't have made it, they made it so he at least got some nutrition. He is on prescription enzymes, called pancrease. She got biopsies of his intestines, liver, spleen, and mesenteric lymph node.

Was the diagnosis after the biopsies?

Going to the vet with him today to discuss everything. All I know is she told me to put him on the prednisone twice a day. And it's working. He's still having a little trouble absorbing all his fluids, but hopefully once the inflammation is gone it will get better, it hasn't even been 24 hours yet. When we thought it was IBD before he has surgery once he was done the metro it came back, but being on just metro doesn't control it either.

What a difficult time for both of you. I hope you and the vet find the answers, Sunny Bear needs. He's in such good and loving hands with you.

So far so good. His poops are by no means perfect. He will have a perfect poop with the meal he takes with his prednisolone and then the poops right after, then they slowly turn into little brown piles. Which if you seen what they looked like before, they are actually really good. His energy level is up, he's peeing good amounts, therefor absorbing fluids. Vet appointment in 4 hours. Just popped home from work to feed him and see how he's doing.

Did you ever do kidney and liver function screens? Until I saw the last post I was worried about all the water he was pushing out his bum after getting it by sub q.

His liver and kidneys values were all good.

That's good, but IBD is no fun either. Sometimes they're on meds for life.

So good news is he has no cancer. Everything is normal. Inflammation in his small intestine. Diagnosis is IBD. She will email me the full report. But we have a plan anyway. He stays on the metronidazole. Sulcrate one hour before prednisolone with food. And keep him on the digestive enzymes. For whatever reason the metro and pred seem to work when given together. Once he is more stable we will try to see what triggers it. But until then everything stays the same.
