Oh no! Gloomy weather sometimes does that to me too. I feel like I just wake up or I feel tired all day. I hope you are not coming down with something... Take that nap! ;-) That's a very good idea and a nice thought. I will give her the forum information. I'm not sure if she has an account here, but that is a great idea. Thanks for offering to help while I'm away. <3 I packed their food last night, and I'll update on that later. It'll be a busy day trying to get the last minute stuff done!! She can come on as a guest. Write instructions for her and tell her how to tag @machan or I. She is also welcome to post to my FB page. Getting ready for vacation and coming home from vacation make you need a vacation.

Hi! I was so busy yesterday, I didn't get a chance to weigh them. :-( I dropped them off at the pet sitter's house last night. I hope they will enjoy their vacation at the ferret land too. I packed their food in individual bags and separated into breakfast and dinner. She will grab a bag from each pool. The boys will get their normal meals. The girls will eat soup in the morning and meat chunks in the evening. I will get back with the program when we get home. I'm planning to push a little hard again, and get the girls to eat bones next. See you all in a couple weeks. Thanks for understanding.

Hi @machan and @poncesmom! I had a great time in Japan! My dad was so surprised to see me and my husband there. It went so fast and I miss my family already. How have things been with you two? Anything exciting happened while I was gone? My ferrets did great while they were at the sitter's house. The girls did not eat the chunks much, according to the lady, but they ate their soup right away. I packed soup for breakfast and various types of chunks for dinner. The boys got their regular menu, and they ate everything just fine. Flexie never liked salmon oil before, but apparently she loved it! They all got nails done with salmon oil on their bellies. We've been taking it easy since we got back last weekend. We are slowly getting used to the 14 hour time difference too. The boys are continuing their weekly menu, and they are doing as great as ever. Although, I am reconsidering my girls' switch. I am very happy and proud of the progress they have made so far, but I'm starting to wear out on trying to force them to eat things that they don't want to. While I will never put them back on kibble again, I might just settle with them eating chunky soup and commercial ground meat. I've been adding Mypetcarnivore ground rabbit to their chicken soup the last couple days, and they are eating it. I'm planning to increase the ratio, so they can eat just the rabbit. A raw feeder friend of mine suggested that I incorporate ground duck in their diet to fatten them up too. They make different kinds of grinds, so I'd like to try other proteins too. Mypetcarnivore is semi-local to me and I can always pick them up at their headquarters. It's balanced and if I give them different type of proteins, they wouldn't be eating chicken all the time. I'm not a quitter, but feeding them and planning their meals became the focus of my life and I was starting to forget to enjoy their company. I don't want to ever think that my girls are bad or selfish for not doing what I want them to do. Leela turned 5 years old just this past weekend. I want to cherish whatever time I have left with these girls and not worry about food. I really really appreciate what you guys have done for me. I am truly grateful to have such compassionate mentors to guide me through this difficult time. You are so awesome!!!!

Welcome back! We missed you. The video of your Father seeing you made me cry. What a touching moment. Your pictures from Japan were gorgeous. The countryside and mountains are stunning.
That 14 hour time difference is rough. So is the long plane ride getting there and back.
I know that you are not a quitter. If I read you right, you'd like to simply move the girls to whole grinds and keep the boys on what they are eating now. We can still graduate you, grinds are raw and the boys are eating whole bones.
I'd like to do that for you and for @machan. You would be her first graduate and then she can take on others. She is so good at this and I'd love for you to be her first graduate.
With the grinds, you will need to brush the girls teeth for them weekly. That's not difficult and just like us, we don't want plaque to build up on their teeth. You will also want of at least 3 proteins sources, so look for 3 different animals. One should be a red meat for the iron and vitamin B.
Hooray for the salmon oil. It's so good for them and will make clipping nails easier.
Let's finish up with a small exam and I will forward everyone's menu to Heather. Then you will be finished and can relax and enjoy your fuzzies stress free. Is that okay with you?

Yes, I'd like to move the girls to grinds and keep the boys on their menu. If I can graduate with this plan that would be great! Like you said, @machan and you can move on and use your time for someone else too. There are people out there that need your help more than me. You have been such helpful mentors. I could not have come this far without you. I will buy rabbit, pork, duck, and turkey from Mypetcarnivore and introduce the girls slowly by adding these to their chicken soup. Today they ate half and half rabbit and chicken, so I'll continue to increase the ratio. They don't care for beef very much, but I can try sneaking in some group beef in their mix too. I am ready to take the test now! I will post the boys' menu here: Mitch & Mango’s weekly meal plan -Revised 6/17/15 Mon AM: Edible bone-in meat (chicken wings) Mon PM: ½ Hearts + ¼ liver, ¼ other organ (½ pork hearts + ¼ turkey liver + ¼ pork kidney) Tue AM: Edible bone-in meat (CGH) Tue PM: Edible bone-in meat (rabbit) Wed AM: Edible bone-in meat (quail) Wed PM: muscle meat (pork loin) Thur AM: Edible bone-in meat (frog legs) Thur PM: Hearts (turkey hearts) Fri AM: Edible bone-in meat (chicken wings) Fri PM: ½ liver + ½ other organ (½ turkey liver + ½ pork kidney) Sat AM: Edible bone-in meat (CGH) Sat PM: Muscle meat (turkey gizzards) Sun AM: Edible bone-in meat (quail) Sun PM: muscle meat (beef steak) 8- Edible bone-in meat 1.5 - Hearts 3- Muscle meat 1.5- organ -------------------------------- = 14 meals

I'm happy to hear that you wish to graduate! Grinds shouldn't be a problem. They'll probably need teeth brushing but at least they'll still be eating raw. That was the goal from the start of your switch and you've done very well so you deserve a lot of the credit here too! (giggle) Rabbit, Pork, Duck and Turkey sound fantastic. Are they still eating the same amounts from before you went on vacation? Beef also has Iron, Vitamin B and Taurine, so sneaking some in would benefit them greatly. I'll wait for Poncesmom to reply with the test as well. Mitch & Mango's plan looks very nice. It looks to be about 7 proteins and thats a great variety. (I counted CGH and Chicken as one since they basically are the same protein.) Bye bye for now~

I'm so glad to hear this. You will be @machan's first graduate. (dance)
Your menu looks terrific. You have a lovely variety in your menu and a good understanding of what makes up a good balanced menu.
I'd like to give you five questions and then let Machan give you five questions. Once we do that and you answer them, then we will forward your menu to Heather.
1. Is heart a muscle meat or an organ meat?
2. What percentage of liver should their weekly diet include?
3. Name a good backup protein source for hearts.
4. What is the minimum number of proteins/animal sources recommended for a weekly menu?
5. Why do we recommend one red meat meal a week?
Now it's Machan's turn. :wave3:

1. List 3 organs aside from liver.
2. When feeding an egg, should you give the whites or the yolks or both?
3. Can a ferret have too much liver?
4. What should you give as a blockage protocol to a ferret who has swallowed a foreign object?
5. How can you tell if your ferret is getting too much or too little bone?
OH couldn't forget this one. Extra Credit: How many ferrets does it take to change a light bulb?

Yay! I can answer these questions! I'm in the middle of the move and I only have internet on my phone. So I'll make it short and sweet. ;-)
1. Muscle. 2. 5%. The other 5% should be other organs. 3. Tongue. 4. Three 5. Beef has higher vitamin A and iron content.
Now onto machan's questions!
1. Kidney, pancreas, and thymus 2. Both. Yolk can be given alone, but Whites should be given with yolk. 3. Yes. You can overdose on vitamin A. 4. Pure pumpkin puree followed by Vaseline. 5. Watch their poop. If it's too soft, they need more bone. One time I made a mistake on the amount of bone powder when Mitch was on soup. I used twice as much bone as the recipe calls for. He had hard white poop! Eew.
Extra credit: Hmmm... 8? A ferret is about a foot tall. Standard ceiling height is 8 feet, so 8 ferrets!! Well, honestly, I have no idea. How many does it take?

@machan will be taking it from here. Once she grades your test, then we will forward your menu for approval. Heather will approve it ( I'm already sure of that) so give her a day or so. Then we will post your congratulations thread and I'll change your status to Raw Feeder.
The extra credit question is for fun. I've had some great answers and one day soon, I'll post them. Everyone has been rather clever with this fun question.
We're not completely finished yet but I do want to say it's been a pleasure working with you and Mitch, Mango, Flexie and Layla. I hope you'll pop in and keep us updated and maybe I will see you at the Buckeye Bash in August.

Hello! Sorry it took me so long to put in this reply. I was suppose to do it a couple of hours ago but got caught up with 3 little cheeky ferrets. HAHA. How was the move? 1. Muscle. Correct! 2. 5%. The other 5% should be other organs. Correct! 3. Tongue. Correct! Tongue is a great backup for hearts. It also has more taurine in it compared to hearts.4. Three. Correct and remember at least one of the minimum 3 proteins needs to be something other than chicken, rabbit, cornish game hen or fish, to ensure a good amount of Vitamin B, Iron and Taurine is in the diet..
5. Beef has higher vitamin A and iron content. Not all beef contains Vitamin A, however, Beef liver is rich in Vitamin A. Iron is correct and Beef is also high in Vitamin B. Vitamin B is water soluble so it doesn't stay in the system and would need to be replenished.
1. Kidney, pancreas, and thymus. Good job! 2. Both. Yolk can be given alone, but Whites should be given with yolk. Correct!3. Yes. You can overdose on vitamin A. Correct! The reason Vitamin A can cause an overdose is because Vitamin A is a fat soluble vitamin, which means unlike Vitamin B that needs to be replenished, Vitamin A can build up in the system. Too much Vitamin A can build up to a toxic level if there’s no break between meals and be very dangerous for our little ferrets.
4. Pure pumpkin puree followed by Vaseline. Yes, 1 tbsp 100% pure canned pumpkin followed one hour later by 1 tsp vaseline and you alternate between them both for up to 4 hours max. 5. Watch their poop. If it's too soft, they need more bone. One time I made a mistake on the amount of bone powder when Mitch was on soup. I used twice as much bone as the recipe calls for. He had hard white poop! Eew. Yes! Poops can tell us if they need more or less bone in their diet. If the poops are loose, they may need more bone. If the poop is dry and seedy, they would need fewer bone meals.
Extra credit: Hmmm... 8? A ferret is about a foot tall. Standard ceiling height is 8 feet, so 8 ferrets!! Well, honestly, I have no idea. How many does it take? AHAHAHA! Good answer!
You gave very good answers so a big pat on the back for you! Have a good night! (assuming its night time for you now~)
