If she has hearts in her diet then you don't need to add taurine powder. If she has no hearts then you will need to add taurine powder. This is irrespective of what muscle meat you are using. Ferrets need taurine, hearts supply that. Otherwise it must be supplemented.

New baby girl,Isabella My bf finally understands where I was coming from! She was abandoned last week and left on a vet tech's doorstep cage n all. I gave her a quick bath and she acted like she was never out of her cage She was so wound up, her tails was puffed out she was hissing, dookin, and running! And made a couple pit stops! I gave her raw and she took it right away! She ate a total of 4 oz since 4:30!

Congratulations on Isabella. What a sweet face. I can't believe someone would just leave her like that, but at least she found her way to a good home. What does Sophia think of her?

Sophia loves her to pieces just as we do! Yeah finally talked my bf into getting another one with the help of Debbie the secretary at our vets' office! Cackle cackle cackle. My plan worked! I was so flippin excited my bf said I don't know who is more excited you or Isabella! Let me tell u she went nuts yesterday like she had never been out of her cage. Which was one of those cheapys with the little plastic flimsy ramps. I told her I did not want the cage right when I saw the pic. She felt so good about bringing her to me because of what I know about them. I can't get an accurate weight on her cuz she is very active and Sophia was climbing up after her like please don't hurt her. I told her not too worry. She seems a little ribby but I will fatten her up. I give her the chicken soupy with chicken baby food. She had her first taste of salmon oil not sure about that yet but she will learn to like it. She looks really good and so does her poop. I think she is going to get a clean bill of health tom when she sees the vet!

Isabella fit right in! She is giving kisses. She loves to dig in sand! Isabella took some salmon oil this morn and tried to eat my finger, so I put some in a dish and she licked it clean! Sophia for the first time also licked it off my finger YAY! Isabella has been eating every 2hrs, except at night she sleeps thru until 7:30. It was just the first night she was up for some comfort food. She loves being held! Today she rested her head on my shoulder Isabella also started eating the soupie on her own! I have been hand feeding her since i got her Sat. Poops look great! She got a clean bill of health at the vet YAY

Im in PA and having a heck of a time finding ANY brain, spleen, lung, kidney! Sherry is telling me that Sophia needs one of them. People can find it in the UK easily. Asian markets only sell dry crap. I am all flipping stressed now cuz I thought that pork heart, liver was all I needed for her!

Am I supposed to be feeding Sophia a meal of hearts a few times a week? I read about it all the time. She has been getting pork loin, hearts and liver all mixed together everyday with a chicken wing.

Sophia and Isabella sound like they are doing great. I'm so happy for all of you.
The Frankenprey menu calls for ten percent of their weekly meals to be Heart. Another ten percent is Organs. Half Liver plus Half other organ.
So, their meal plan looks like this:
7-9 meals of Bone In 3-4 meals of Muscle Meat. Heart is a muscle meat 1 meal of Liver plus another organ 1 meal of Liver plus another organ plus a half meal of Heart.
They need at least three different types of Meat. Heart has Taurine in it and is essential for Ferrets. It's also water soluable and doesn't build up in their system.
Liver on the other hand, stays in their system and can build up to a toxic level.
While they are on soupies, they get a little liver every day. However, we want them to move past the soupie stage, eat slivers and then get onto the Frankenprey menu and start eating a balanced diet with bones.
Are they eating the chicken wing, bones and all?

Sophia is eating wings cut up bone and all. Isabella has no interest in bone or chunks of meat what so ever. Isabella is at the beginning of the transition, chicken soupie. It will be a week on Saturday that she has been on it! Sophia is 2.80 pounds and Isabella is still 1.10 pounds but I am starting to feel a little pudgy belly just a little, which is great! Tonight, I gave Sophia small chunks of heart and liver and she ate it YAY! Isabella loves Salmon Oil now if I can get SOphia to love it as much as she does that would be great. Isabella is what I believe to be 3-4months my vet thinks she is 9mos and she is smaller than Sophia but my gosh can she eat! She is not eating on her own yet. Most of the time I hand feed SOphia too. I think she enjoys that. Isabella absolutely loves her soupie! She shivers every time I grab her and her food and she eats until she can't take another bite. She looks like she is full cuz she slows down. Then she looks around the room and just when I think she is done she wants another bite. Like omg I just have to have one more bite Mommy it is absolutely delicious!! And she likes feet. She has a good set of choppers on her!

Excellent, they are both doing so well and so are you! (dance)
You will want to keep the Salmon oil down to 1/3 tsp every 3 days. The oil will make for looser and smellier poops. Think of it a treat and just like children with Candy, too much is not good.

Sophia is on the Frankenprey diet as of Oct 26. Everyone on Holistic Ferret (Facebook) was like she should be on the Frankenprey diet! She was on soupie for a while but it took a little longer cuz I thought it was going to be difficult to get her eating other meats. Isabella I think is going to be tricky cuz she likes it pureed it seems. I will try chunks with her in a couple weeks.

When Sophia woke up she only ate a bite of her food, so I was like ok she will get hungry a little later. Then within an hr she starts puking all over the place. She would no sooner puke take a couple breaths and be right back at it and this went on for at least 10mins! I had called my vet when it started and she said if she is feeling better tomorrow give her some Pedialyte if not bring her in. Then she drank a bunch of water and layed around so I put her to bed. It was so sad to watch. I am gonna sleep with one eye open tonight!

Happy Halloween to you too! Sophia is feeling much better. I don't know what caused her to get sick. Sophia is on bone-in and I wanna get her some other bone-in meats, but I am not sure what to get. Like at Hare Today there is quail carcass and various other carcasses and dressed meats etc. Do I get whole meats and cut them in pieces? Also been having alot of cheap knives go dull on me as far as cutting bone. I got a boning knife for $15 and it just doesn't seem all that sharp. The butcher at a farm near me told me to get it. It takes a little while just to cut a frickin wing! What brand is good? Also I have been trying to give Bella different things like chicken hearts and livers and she eats a couple and spits the rest out. I could not make them any smaller than I did. They were the size of my fingernail. She seems used to the soupie and doesn't want anything that is chunks. How do I get her to eat it? Do I need to give her tough love like eat this or starve or keep giving her the same thing everyday until she eats it? What can I do?
