normally its best to let young ferrets over winter this way there body clock adjusts normally to light cycles eg spring turn on hormones fall turn off hormones some kits are born as early as feb /march in some parts of the world indoors and can come into season as early as 6-8 months old so they haven't over wintered and set there body clock into the right cycle just my two pennies worth take care bye for now Bev
I have never heard of this advice. A female can by castrated when she becomes in heat, their is no need to get her out of heat first and then do the surgery. That is unnecessary and physically ferry heavy.
are their some medical articles that support this theory?
I've been talking to a few ferrants and most say it is best to wait until she is out of heat. Apparently it decreases the risk of heavier blood loss and general stability of the ferrets general health/recovery. I don't know of any articles to support this however I would rather be a little over cautious. But that's just me where abuts do you live in the nederlands chaimel? I have family in lelystad
As a general rule it is best to wait the animal (any animal) is out of heat before spaying due to the increased blood supply to the uterus during heat. This increases the risk of excessive blood loss. Most vets here won't spay any animal till they're out of heat unless there is some really pressing reason to do it sooner. There is also the risk of an attempted breeding (in dogs or cats) which can tear the sutures in the stump loose and cause hemorrhage.
I think that many are starting to catch on the damage that is being done by the farms. We will never be able to reach everyone, but if we can just reach a few, who will reach another few...maybe in some dream...we can shut down Marshals farm ciao
