I keep rescues and my ferrets. All of my ferrets are intact and I use a v-hob. I'm hoping that this year my wee girl will present me with a hob kit that will be suitable for such a purpose as Bacchus will be 5 this year and he needs to have a partner in crime. I had heard of the occasional intact ferret developing adrenal. He's looking really good ciao

I think I've confused myself. So from my understanding a v-hob is a male ferret that has undergone a vasectomy. But is that not neutering them or have I got it completely wrong?

Yep, a v-hob is a hob that has had a vasectomy, neutering is where their testicles are removed so they can't go into rut or have the ability to mate with a Jill.

So is a ferret that's had a vasectomy the same as a neutered ferret or not? A vasectomised hob can mate and bring a jill out of season without a pregnancy and a neurtured hob can't mate a jill and bring her out of season unlike a vasectomised hob which can.

Ah, I think I know now. So I think a vasectomy is where tubes are tied but still have their testicles.

A vasectomized hob is no different than a human male who has had a vasectomy Still capable of doing the deed, but unable to produce offspring A neutered hob(gib) is the same a a neutered dog, cat, etc. There is no ability because the testes are removed.

The terms for a neurtured hob is different in the UK to the US, we call a neutered hob a "hobble" and we call a v-hob a "hoblet" but I think that's the same in both the UK and US

It's all in the terminology lol. V-hob over here, vassie in Australia, hoblet (love that term, though it's not used often) in the UK. I would not be without my Bacchus I just have to find him a working partner, hence the reason to breed this year ciao

It shouldn't be too bad. I figure that if the kit is born this year, he has to be at least a year old before surgery. So, that will make Bacchus 6 and then he will only be allowed one jill until he's proven, so that will make Bacchus 7 before the new wee lad is up and running. By that point in time he might actually want to share his harem lol ciao
