cool cool. What would you suggest optimal weight be for an adult ferret? All f them are on the heavier side. at least they have all gained weight since i got them. Foxy is so tubby he sometimes has trouble jumping or crawling up things. it is really cute but I am wondering if this is maybe a bad thing? Lately I have been feeding them once a day, just putting in a big dish of food that seems to last them the whole day, I mean, yesterday I gave them a small rabbit, and there are still some pieces left of it. I plan on giving them a fresh bowl in the next few minutes.
Also, Could fox's ability to be so plump and unable to lift himself up onto cages and things also be linked to him being older? I don't know his age exactly but i assume he is at least 3 years, possibly older.

The weight will really depend on the body type. Some ferrets are muscular (bulldog), thin (whippet), chubby. How cool is it where you are? It's time for winter weight to start too.
Once a day should be okay as long as they are eating the meat throughout the day and the meat isn't spoiling.
How active is he? Is he lazy?

Well...I am in san francisco so the temperature is the same throughout the year a moderate temperature between 55-75 degrees fahrenheit. our seasons are different than the rest of the country. LOL. yes they are all eating throughout the day. and I generally let them out for 2-6 hours everyday. they all play very actively for at least an hour before they all disperse and find a place to nap or cuddle up together. so....they kinda just play super actively about an hour or 2 each day while the rest of the day they are just being lazy ferts. LOL is that normal for other people also?

Generally ferrets play in cycles. So it be better to to them out a couple times a day rather than a large block of time. They'd probably play more.
You can try exercising him more and see if he loses some weight. Running up stairs, down a hallway, etc.
I know what you mean about the seasons - Floridian here ;D
