Rascal is the only one who has eaten the mice. so far he has eaten 5 mice. And is ALWAYS looking for more. no joke. whenever I let them out to play the first thing he does is go to where the mouse cage was last.

Hi there fleapop! Fantastic that Rascal(?) is eating his meeces ;D How are the others doing with the raw now? Soup? Mince? Chunks? How is Rascal doing with those? Are the others eating prekilled mice yet? Normally, I don't interefere with switching threads, but your mentor really does need to know exactly where you are at all the time. That way, she can make decisions on the best direction to take you and your ferrets in for their next step

They are all eating the raw meat now. I also give them pieces of the carcass. The bones with meat I couldn't cut off. they love it! Now whenever I put fresh meat in they all come swarming! I still add just half a handful of the kibble becaus eI think they still kind of like it and I only have a little bit left anyways. I just got some more adult female mice today that are hopefully pregnant so I can feed the babies to them.
I just found out that the pet store might stop selling mice because of some law they are trying to pass here in san francisco. so I guess I have to start breeding some.
They others haven't really gotten any mice yet. I have one hopper right now I was planning on giving it to them later. Probably Woolfie will get the hopper. or maybe Fox, if Woolfie isnt interested.
Oh yeah! and Today fox went with me out to the park. which HE LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF. But he also enjoyed going back in the backpack and snoozing.

That's great! What size chunks are they eating? Slivers, fingernail size, 1" chunks, larger? Whole pieces(as in chicken thighs, etc)? You say you are giving the carcass- are they also actually eating the bones from it now, or ripping the meat away from the bone?

they eat all of the meat off the bones, then have been chewing on some of the bones, Tehn I take them out and give them more meat. All of the meat is different sizes, some are slivers, some are 1' chunks, some are just big pieces of meat that got hacked up. I basically just went all butcher crazy on the meat and they seem to love it.

Thanks for the assistance Sherry And fleapop, that's great!!! You're kids are making awesome progress How do everyones stools look? If they are very watery you can add a bit of plain pumpkin or squash to their daily mix to help firm up the stools. So since they are doing so well, I think you can start adding another protein into the mix. Whatever is easy for you to get, or cheapest ;D Your eventual goal will be at LEAST 3 proteins, but more variety is always better. Do you think mice will be the only whole prey you feed? Do you have any goals to add other whole prey? In my daily routine I feed 5 proteins. Chicken, turkey, and cornish game hen for bone-in meats. Pork and beef for boneless. I also like to have some freeze dried lamb and duck duck goose (Stella and Chewys brand) but I haven't been able to afford it lately As for as giving a handful of kibble, when they're eating a balanced raw diet, they won't even need it anymore freeze dried raw is good to always have on hand in case of emergencies. It is dry like kibble but MUCH healthier than kibble. Anyway, keep me posted on their progress and let me know if you have any questions/concerns/etc

Also all their poops are pretty solid. And smell more like.....dog poo than the stinky ferret doo doo LOL. Well....kind of a mix between dog and human feces I think. And all of their stools are darker colored. but then I have been feeding them all livers the past two days so thats probably why.
They also have all gained a little weight and have TONS more energy! its Awesome!!! I also took 2 of them to the river with me the other day, which they LOVED! They played and explored for about 40 minutes then crawled in their bag and slept, then when we got home they ate all their food and slept for 6-8 hours.

Sorry I haven't responded, me and the fuzzies were out of town for a few days!!! Oh ;D I was worried you might have ducked out on me So I got them some chicken livers, beef livers, rabbit meat and chicken, I also got some beef to give them which I have been giving them some twice a day That's great So everyone is eating all of that fine? What size chunks/pieces are they eating? Also all their poops are pretty solid. And smell more like.....dog poo than the stinky ferret doo doo LOL. And it will most likely get better as their systems become more effective. Well....kind of a mix between dog and human feces I think. And all of their stools are darker colored. but then I have been feeding them all livers the past two days so thats probably why. Yeah, expect dark stools on liver/organ days, and when darker meats (beef) are fed. That's GREAT about the weight gain and energy Instead of getting energy from carbs, they are getting it from fat (which is much more efficient). And that sounds like so much fun I have one girl (Pixie) that loves being outside. Has anyone else eaten any mice?

I havent tried the mice for about a week because I have been busy. I do have 3 mice at the moment So I will probably try later today. I think Woolfie will get it. if not I usually keep rascal near by to make a quick kill. He Really Loves it. He's Always looking for mice when I let him out. Rascal is the Albino if you remember. Oh I also got some new litter for them. Its pine wood pellets. I notice they actually bury their poops like a cat with this stuff. Do any of you use thaT? Also I went to a really sweet ferret meeting a few weeks ago in the city. It was all women who all had a pretty awesome sense of humor! Oh how I love Ferret people! I wish there were more of these. Also I have just been thawing out the meat and then giving them the whole meat pieces for them to tear up. Earlier they had a huge chicken thigh and leg. they seemed to have eaten most of it, and Rascal is eating whats left right now. the others are all snuggled together Soooo Awesome!!! I am so happy to have these lovies in my life !!!!!!!!! <3

Hopefully you get a couple good hunters. Some will never get it, others can learn with some practice. Let me know how it goes! And that's great that you're able to give big chunks and have everyone still eat it. So can you give me a rundown of what proteins you're feeding, and what types of bone they get? And ferret people are the best kind of people ;D glad you had so much fun I would be heartbroken if I didn't have my three fuzz butts in my life
