Sophie had 1/2 teaspoon when she woke up, and Wolf had 1 teaspoon, both had one lick off the finger then went to the spoon. 1 teaspoon equals about.1 of an ounce. I put 1 1/2 teaspoons in their cage to see if they would eat it when they are hungry. Will see how that goes, but I will hand feed them again after their next nap. Perfect! The fact that you are getting them to eat off the spoon is fantastic! Way to go! Keep up the good work 💖💖

I need help figuring out how much Princess is supposed to eat as far as raw. I can't find anything online for kittens. She is 18 weeks old. I need to make her a menu because she is taking the ferrets food from their cage... So that isn't helping me to see if they will eat it themselves. Lol. I can pretty much get any normal meat and organs from a store 1/2 hour away.
I'm also thinking about ordering stuff from Hare Today next month. And I need to figure out a replacement for the N bone sticks because Wolf loves those... But not other ferret treats.

So for your kitten if she is eating numerous different proteins let's take the kibble away. She doesn't need it. What she does need is a schedule. Many raw feeders for cats feed twice daily and only for a certain amount of time for each of those. Cats shouldn't be allowed to have food out constantly like ferrets. This is a basic Frankenprey menu that we will be using. For ferrets and cat Sun AM: organ meal (½ liver, ½ other organ) Sun PM: edible bone-in meat Mon AM: muscle meat Mon PM: edible bone-in meat Tues AM: heart Tues PM: edible bone-in meat Wed AM: muscle meat Wed PM: edible bone-in meat Thur AM: heart and organ (½ liver, ½ other organ) Thur PM: edible bone-in meat Fri AM: muscle meat Fri PM: edible bone-in meat Sat AM: muscle meat Sat PM: edible bone-in meat

So you need to experiment to see how much she eats in one sitting. For example I have a friend who feeds her cat twice a day. She makes 2 oz of food for her and only allows that food to sit out for 30 minutes. Then if the cat hasn't eaten all of it she puts what's left in the fridge. 22 hours later she takes out the pm meal and feeds her that. Only allowing 30 minutes for the cat to eat it all. Another thing I recommend is not feeding cold meat. I have been told feeding cold meat actually makes the car vomit. So before you feed her let the meat sit out on the counter to become room temperature. Don't freak out, a cats digestive tract is designed to deal with higher bacterial counts. So letting the meat sit till room temperature will not hurt her Not only is it important to watch for poops in ferrets it is also extremely extremely important to watch for poops in your kitten. Cats can become extremely constipated with to much bone. This menu is just basic for the cat as it has 7 bone in meals. If she becomes to constipated we can adjust the bone in meal amount.

So this is a chart of the good treats and the bad treats for ferrets. Feel free to ask questions about them. Feel free to use it when you are looking for a good treat for wold The good - Salmon oil: this oil is rich in omega 3 and 6 fatty acids. They are good for skin and coat as well as heart and brain health. You can add it to food, drizzle it on a plate. You can buy dropper bottles and add it to one of those to dispense how you like. Reputable brands: Yummy Chummy and Grizzly salmon oil - Other fish oils: they are also rich in omega 3 and 6 fatty acids and can add variety to your oil stash. The recommended amount for oil is 1 teaspoon a week. Preferably over a week span. Reputable brand: Terramax Pro Omega 3 fish oil (this oil includes 4 fish, mackerel, sardines, anchovies, and herring) - Purebites (freeze dried treats): these are cat treats that are just one ingredient and that is meat. Recommended list: Shrimp, Pacific Salmon, turkey breast, Chicken Breast and Ocean whitefish. - EVOO (extra virgin olive oil): has anecdotal evidence reducing ulcer risk. - Smelt fish or raw shrimp - Raw meat slivers: chicken, beef, turkey etc. - Freeze dried meat - Raw egg (whole whisked egg or just yolk): We recommend feeding the whole egg(whisked) as it is nutrient packed. You can feed just the yolk as well but, you get more nutrients mixing up yolk and egg white together. NEVER feed just egg white as you will cause major health problems that way. The bad - Ferretone: controversial ingredients, along with carcinogenic preservatives. - Vitamin paste (ferretvite, furovite): full of sugar (which is a cause in insulinoma) if you feed a balanced raw diet you don't need vitamin supplements. - Coconut oil: we don't recommend coconut oil because as of now there is anecdotal evidence showing it is not great to cats health. With that being said ferrets and cats have a lot of the same physiology so we use cats as a base for a lot of knowledge because of lack of knowledge for ferrets. - Other processed treats ( N bones, bandit treats): these are not good what so ever. Overly processed with inappropriate ingredients. For more reading holisticferretforum.com/natural-diet/treats-for-ferrets/

OK... Going through your posts.... I know Princess will not eat heart by itself... I've tried and she stubbs her nose, but she will eat it ground up with the chicken as in the soupies. So is it possible to do that? Also, because she is still growing, don't you think she will need to eat more than twice a day? She is very active throughout the day. I know with her kibble it says for her to eat 1/4 to 1/2 cup twice a day, but she doesn't eat it all at once. Even if I only give her 1/2 cup. Also, for bone in meats, am I going to be feeding her the whole bone, or grind it up. I gave her a chicken wing the other day and she wouldn't touch it until I broke it up, and she left the bone. Also, her poops have been disgusting smelling since she has been eating more raw anything I can do to lessen that, or I'll it eventually go away once her body gets used to it? Now for the ferret treats, Wolf does like extra Virgin olive oil, and does not like eggs in any way shape, or form. Lol. I just want to get him something to replace the N bone because he loves those. Also, for now, is it OK to give him the coconut oil in place of the ferretvite? They do not have anymore ferretvite left, and I feel bad because Sophie gets nothing extra at all because she is so picky. She loved ferretvite, but does not like oil, so I want something I can give her until she starts actually eating and liking meat, then I can give her meat treats. I will try to give them a shrimp the next time we buy them. Not sure if they will like that or salmon oil because they don't like fish.

I will try to give them a shrimp the next time we buy them. Not sure if they will like that or salmon oil because they don't like fish. So you can ground up the chicken and heart together and make her a soup for starters. As an example: If you feed her 2 ounces, make the soup 1 ounce chicken 1 ounce heart. Blend it together and add some water to it for her so she will eat it that way. It is quite important she starts to eat heart For the kibble bag that's their feeding instructions for their food. She can still eat twice a day. You just have to weigh what you give her. Once she gets on a schedule she will know to eat the amount she is given. What you can do is weigh out say 3 oz and feed it to her. After about 30 to 45 minutes what she doesn't eat pick it up. Then you will know how much she eats in a sitting. As for the bone you can cut it up into pieces and offer it to her. When it's cut she can't pick off the parts she likes Her body is detoxing. Once you get rid of the kibble completely after about a month or so she will go back to normal poop smelling wise lol Onto the treats We will get him eating eggs as well egg is very very nutritious for ferrets and good for hairball prevention. Yes you can use coconut oil as a treat for now. I really recommend a fish oil we just don't recommend coconut oil because there are better options and no studies on it. You just have to teach them to like the salmon oil. My kids didn't like it at first but they love it now

OK. Sounds good. Both ferrets had a tiny bit more soup. Left a little over 1/2 ounce in their cage since they are in there at night, along with the kibble. I'm pretty sure if it's gone in the morning Wolf ate it. We will see, but night time is the only time they are in the cage with the door closed so Princess can't get their food. Do you think I could give them some of the juice from actual salmon? Would that be like salmon oil? We are going to smoke some salmon tomorrow for the guys... I don't eat it, but if it would be ok I can squeeze some of the juice out beforehand. As for cutting bones up... How do you do that without breaking a knife? Lol

Lol Well keep me posted to see if he eats it in the morning The juice of the salmon is much different than the oil. I would just recommend going to petco and going into the dog and cat section with all the supplements. There should be a 4 oz bottle of salmon oil in the cat section. It's named wild alasken, I use it with my ferrets. You have to teach them to like it just like the raw meat 💖💖 As for bone cutting, you can buy a cleaver at walmart in the knife section. Those things cut through bone. It's awesome, it's what I use to cute boned pieces for my kids
