Yes, definitely post on CL. Just two things to keep in mind: 1) Make sure the person seems legit - most people aren't bad, but there are creepers out there o.O 2) Make sure anything wild is frozen 4 weeks. I've been searching high & low for brains to no avail! But I'm not easily grossed out - I've even held a human brain (Cadaver lab. I'm not Dexter )

I've been searching high & low for brains to no avail! But I'm not easily grossed out - I've even held a human brain (Cadaver lab. I'm not Dexter ) I know that's a serious statement, but it did make me giggle. The frozen for four weeks is to kill off anything that could cause issues with the ferrets right? If I find some maybe I'll send them to you. :puke: I honestly could probably ask my dad for cow brain, he'd just laugh at me because he knows I think it's gross. I didn't think I was going to be this icked over silly things. Liver is just gross. Ulgh. I don't understand how people can eat it, but not everyone makes mashed potato sandwiches. ..... The brain you held..... was it squishy? O.O

It wasn't really that squishy, but it was also a 3-4 year old preserved brain The 4 weeks is to kill off anything that could make the woozles sick. Mmm... mashed potatoes are the best. Mashed potato & turkey sammich. Mashed potato tacos. Chipotle chicken mashed potato bowls... if I could eat only potatoes forever, I would 😂 My dad & sister are allergic to potatoes, and it's so sad, lol.

Mashed potatoes are mediocre at best..... *ducks for cover* Shane's family is a big time meat and potatoes family. We lived with them first year of Med school to save $ and while I appreciated not having to cook dinner every night, by the end of the year I was SO OVER meat and potatoes. I'm not crazy about meat OR potatoes to begin with, and after a year of meat and potatoes for almost every dinner I was extra not into them. Can't complain about food I didn't have to buy or cook though. Cereal on the other hand....I had to stop buying it bc if it's in the house I won't eat much of anything else. hahaha

That's what I thought. Yay for the ability to freeze things! .... I never thought of mashed potato tacos. Sounds like something I need to try! katt Hahahaha! I don't judge! I'm from Idaho so we can just go pick them out of the fields. It's kind of a staple here. My family was always meat and potatoes, and as much as I like both of them, I really really like a good salad. My husband is the cereal monster. Oh, and cheesecake. Cheesecake is heaven! If I get fat, that will be what causes it.

Cheesecake 😍 My Nana makes a no bake cheesecake that is amazing. Aftershock now that you have & understand the basic Frankenprey menu I'd like you to post a menu, based on the proteins you currently have available to you. From there we can work on tailoring it a little, as well as why the basics are so important. Since Croc & Gator are well on their way to eating raw, you don't need to post every single day. Every other day, or every two days is fine. (If you'd like to post more you're more then welcome to! This thread can be helpful reference in the future). Post should include: Day: AM meal - what/format (chunks, slivers, etc), and amount. PM meal- what/format/amount. Example: 07/05/2016 AM meal - Duck wing/ Chopped/10 oz PM meal - 50 heart, 25 liver, 25 kidney/ Blended/ 12 oz *I'm feeding 6 ferrets, so my quantities are much bigger *

Hahahaha, since we got off track there a little. Ulgh, I'm wincing internally at all the CGH that is going to be on here. Monday am: CGH/portion/ 6oz Monday pm: CGH/portion/ 10 oz Tuesday am: Beef/chunks/ 6 oz Tuesday pm: CGH/portion/ 10 oz Wednesday am: Heart meal/whole/ (I'm testing out ounces for this today) Wednesday pm: CGH/portion/ 10 oz Thursday am: CGH/portion/ 6 oz Thursday pm: CGH/portion/ 10 oz Friday am: Pork/T-bone/ 6 oz without bone (I still need to do before and after weights with this since I've always just cut the meat off the T-bones. I'm hoping they will clean the meat off the bone) Friday pm: CGH/portion/ 10 oz Saturday am: 1/2 heart, 1/4 liver & 1/4 other organ Saturday pm: CGH/portion/ 10 oz Sunday am: 1/2 liver + 1/2 other Sunday pm: CGH/portion/ 10 oz Quick question, so since I don't have an 'other organ' right now, what should I put there? And should I go off of my 6 oz that they seem to be eating in the mornings to put together the blended meals?

Until you get other organs replace that with more liver, so you have 1.5 meals of liver and 1.5 meals of heart. If you can find it at the Asian market quail is a really good edible bone. I haven't found quail here in Spokane but Mmm it was one of Koda's favorites when I could get it in AK!

Alrighty! So I was searching online yesterday and came across a local farm type deal that says they sell ready to eat chickens, turkeys, duck, beef, lamb, pork, rabbit, goat milk, cheese, and omega three chicken and duck eggs. They don't use hormones. I plan on messaging them for information on what they have. I saw some live quails for sale too. my first thought was 'breed them!'

And should I go off of my 6 oz that they seem to be eating in the mornings to put together the blended meals? Your menu looks good as far as bone/organ/heart content goes. What's the Wed am heart "whole" mean? Do you mean while chicken hearts (as opposed to....blended? Chopped?) or something else? Definitely very heavy on th CGH, so we need to get some better bone in meals. Any luck tracking down an Asian market yet? Whereabouts do you live? I have a long layover tomorrow - maybe I can find something useful. lol Even if they were eating chicken bones, chicken vs CGH being different proteins is debatable. Some IBD ferrets who have trouble with chicken do ok with CGH. But at the very least they are similar enough that they aren't going to sufficiently contribute to the nutritional variety. RE Chicken bones being too big, buy a whole chicken. The spine, back, necks, etc are all awesome eating bones and the wings can be smashed up. I use an ulu, other people use a mallet and/or poultry shears. How did they take to the whole hearts? Have you considered the possibility of including whole prey in their diet? Helpful to know either way. Also, since getting other sources of edible bone is hard right now, I would suggest ordering a container of some bonemeal powder. Ok that took me 5 tries to finish that last sentence. It's bedtime.)

This will be the third time I've attempted to post. I posted last night, and I just tried again to no avail. (Tapatalk, why you gotta be so rude.) On the plus side, Katt pretty much covered everything I said. It's good you're internally wincing at all the CGH, that means you know it's too much & you have an idea of what balance looks like I believe you said that you want to breed mice, you just have to wait until you move? Mice are delicious & nutritious protein. I've heard quail are a pain in the butt to breed - I was looking in to breeding some at my parents farm, but it was going to be a big undertaking. I was gonna breed dubia roaches for the ferrets (and gecko) but apparently they are illegal in Canada If you're struggling to find sufficient bone in variety locally, online can be a good option. Like Hare Today or My Pet Carnivore.

Oh I missed the wanting to breed mice part!! So I will say that while they are so young is the time to introduce them to AS MUCH as possible. The more you expose them to variety now, the easer it will be to introduce new things later. And they will recognize what you introduce now as food. So even if you can't breed yet, I would definitely introduce whole prey now if it's something you plan to offer in the future. Sorry you're having trouble with the all Klarissa. I hate losing posts. I use my phone web browser - always a backup option at least.

Hahaha, yeah, not having to chop it or blend it. They sure love their hearts! Gator likes to sleep on them. I live in Idaho Falls, ID. Every time I google I get an Asian market in Twin Falls (3-4 hour drive from me ) The Hispanic markets are NO help. I did call Great Western Frozen foods a few minutes ago and was talking to their sales rep, turkey necks and duck are something he can for sure get. He's going to go check with their suppliers for quail and rabbit and will get back to me. It could take a couple of weeks though, so I think the bonemeal would be a good idea until I can get these things for sure. Any recommendations on a brand? By the way katt, how did your board exam go?! I giggled at this. Bahahahaha! Yessssssssssss, breeding mice is something my mom actually did when I was younger and we had ball pythons. And I'm not gonna lie, I have an issue with buying a three pack of hoppers from Petco for $7. Awwwww, quails are super cute though! I don't speak bird though so they would probably hate me. My best friend is the bird whisperer, I've always been better with training cats. Now that I have ferrets though I feel like I really found a creature that has actually bonded with me. Not to mention I dook at my husband now and it cracks him up. It's super sad that you can't breed the roaches as those would be super easy to take care of. Why are mice so much more expensive than Guinea pigs?! I just don't understand. I'm going to check shipping though. There was another whole prey site and they charged hardcore for shipping. We should be moving at the beginning of August. We will have a two bedroom with a backyard and a shed. It will be super nice because the boys can have their own room and free range in it all day, not to mention we will have the space to breed mice.

I forgot to add that when we move we were talking about getting a deep freezer since we will have space for it too!
