Please confirm that you are 18 years of age or older: Yes, I am 25 years old.
1. Where did you first learn about natural diets for ferrets? Right before we got our first ferret, I was googling as much information as I could and came across this forum.
2. Please describe the type of diet you would like assistance in switching your ferret(s) to. Be sure to include if you are interested in feeding whole prey (live or frozen-thawed) and if you are wanting to FULLY switch to a natural diet or PARTIALLY. If you are unsure what kind of diet you want to put your ferrets on, please express that and we can help you find the best type of natural diet for your ferret.
I honestly want some help with balancing what I have (my boys are already eating chicken, pork, beef, Cornish game hen, liver, and heart. I am hunting down kidney and turkey necks.), I seem to have gotten mixed up and I need help. I want to feed mice, but I plan on breeding them and that isn't something I have room for until we move in August. (This is the one thing my husband has absolutely put his foot down on until we move into something bigger than a one bedroom.)
3. Why are you interested in switching your ferrets to a natural diet?
Because I want to give them the best chance to having a happy and fulfilled life that they can! I just love these boys so much!
4. Do you understand that switching your ferret to a natural diet can be a lengthy, arduous process? Its not an overnight switch. It requires a commitment of several months at minimum. Your HF Mentor will be more then happy to assist you in switching your ferret(s) to a natural diet, but you need to be equally as committed. The switch takes time and effort every single day. It can also be extremely frustrating at times. If you aren't willing to tough out a potentially lengthy switching process, you have major life changes approaching (baby on the way, moving, starting school, getting married/divorced, etc), or limited time due to work, then it might be a better idea to wait on switching your ferret's diet until you have more time. Are you willing and realistically able to make the necessary time commitment?
Yes, yes I am.
5. How many ferrets do you currently have? What are their names? Ages? Genders? Do they have any health problems? Are they overweight? Underweight? How long have you had each ferret for?
I have two ferrets, they are Gator and Croc. Croc is older at about five months, Gator is three months. Both are male. They are both healthy other than Croc being deaf and I'm pretty sure he's a Waardy, but the longer I have him the easier his quirks are to work around. At the vet visit a few weeks ago Croc was 3 lbs, Gator 2 lbs 8 oz, and the vet said they were at good weights. I have had both of my boys since 6/8/16.
6. What diet do you currently feed your ferrets? (Please include all treats, supplements, etc) Do they already eat some form of soup?
They eat chicken thighs, pork t bone meat, different beef cuts, Cornish game hen, beef/chicken hearts, beef/chicken livers, chicken gizzards, and they have decided that they like licking off the coconut oil that I use as a moisturizer so they get a tiny bit of that as a treat for going in the litter box like they should occasionally.
7. Have you ever tried to switch your ferrets to a natural diet in the past? If yes, what happened?
I switched them right when I got them, and they are still on it.
8. What additional information about yourself or your ferrets would you like to share?
I think the only other thing I can really put in here is that I've noticed where they have both been off kibble for about a month and they have filled out so much better, but Croc still has a leaner look to him and Gator is just a stocky little boy.
What ever help you guys can give me will be sooooo appreciated!
9. How often during the week do you have access to a computer?
24/7
10. Please post a picture of each of your ferrets (if possible).
Will be at bottom of forum.
11. Do you have a scale sufficient to measure soup ingredients AND to regularly weigh your ferrets?
Yes I do!
12. Have you met the requirements for this program? Are you at least 18 years of age? Do you have your scale, a place to access meats, hearts, livers, etc? Yes to all.
