Giblets is a culinary term for the edible offal of a fowl, typically including the heart, gizzard, liver, and other visceral organs. A whole bird from a butcher is often packaged with the giblets, sometimes sealed in a bag in the body cavity
A bag of Giblets has the: Heart (muscle meat) Gizzard (muscle meat) Liver (Organ) and I've never seen anything else in a giblet bag.
I have however forgotten it was in the bird and cooked the bag inside the bird. (shy)

I'm so glad everything is going so well. We'll certainly help you when it comes time for feeding whole prey. The one thing to remember is that baby animals like pinkies are not a full meal. They are a treat. Adult animals like an adult rat will have the proper nutrients. One small note and it's important. You do not want to feed a live rat to a ferret. They are fierce and can hurt a ferret. I'll give you a link on feeding prey. You can read it when you find time. This thread has some good links in it and offers a nice discussion: holisticferret60.proboards.com/thread/972/nutrient-composition-prey?page=2

I know how the busy times can be overwhelming and stressful. I don't feed rats so let me post to the Mentors boards. I'll get back to you quickly.

The pictures are gorgeous. You have such beautiful fuzzies. I heard back from the other Mentors. Teens and Hoppers are not adults yet. You always want to use an adult animal as a meal. The babies and teens are treats. Heather suggested that if you are just starting to feed rats then look for a size comparable to a mouse. She said you might need to dress them first. Remember please never feed a live rat to a ferret. Here is a good discussion on this: holisticferret60.proboards.com/thread/18307/skinning-rats-guttingAlso a a good link to the basic info on feeding whole prey: holisticferret60.proboards.com/thread/972/nutrient-composition-preyI know being busy makes finding time to read these hard. Just get to them when you can. :wave3:

The ferrets look to be a good weight African soft furred rats are about the size of a big mouse (maybe just a bit bigger). The reason why you don't want to feed prey that isn't mature yet, is because they are not nutritionally complete. So it would throw off the balance of the menu.

I will read those articles now. Thank you ,I love these guys so much and I am so happy I decided to do this for them. My car should be up by next week so no more chicken and more variety. I do not even give my snakes fully aware rats..They are so powerful. I used to have them as pets so I know fully what they are capable of. ^^
