Okay so my kids are eating a lot more. I put about 10-12 oz out a day now. Also some food aggression is developing. My waardie is the dominant one and insists on taking food out of my others mouths. Bubba gets upset and screams, they both do. No harm done to either just shrill sounds x.x Athena is a perfect angel I am sure they have gained weight and will continue to do so for winter ^^my menu has stayed about the same .

Good Afternoon. Sveta is on vacation so it will be just me for the week. Kyubbi is your dominant one. That's interesting. It's usually the female but maybe Athena has not learned that girls rule yet. She's still somewhat new to your home. Give her time. Bubba and Athena will get tired of Kyubbi taking their food and spank him. If you're worried then try a feeding den for each of them. Or you could feed Kyubbi separately. holisticferret60.proboards.com/thread/4544/feeding-den-setupsBetween the eagerness to eat new food and Fall/Winter coming, they will eat alot. If you think they can eat more and their plate is clean, put some more food out. They will slow down in a bit. If their poops are good, their activity level is normal, then you're right on track. Let's try a basic pop quiz. 1. List two good sources for Taurine. 2. How much Liver should they eat in one week? 3. What animal protein is a good source for Vitamin B and Iron? 4. How many Bone In meals should they get in one week? 5. Name 4 organs that should be part of their menu. 6. Name two muscle meats. 7. Is Heart a muscle meat or an organ meal? 8. How many animal protein sources should be in their weekly menu? 9. Is Liver fat soluable or water soluable? Why does this matter? 10. Can you explain the Blockage Protocol that is used when a ferret eats a foreign object like rubber or foam? :wave3:

Good Morning (dance) Let's look over your test: 1. List two good sources for Taurine.heart and tongue Very Good! Heart and Tongue have the highest amounts of Taurine. Taurine is found in the tissues of muscles, so we use Heart and Tongue because the more the muscle moves the more Taurine is found in it. Taurine is water soluable and is eliminated from their systems and must be replenished. 2. How much Liver should they eat in one week? 5% Excellent. Liver is full of Vitamin A which is Fat soluable. That remains in their system so we replenish that but beause it can build up to toxic levels, we keep it at five percent of their weekly menu. 3. What animal protein is a good source for Vitamin B and Iron?beef?Correct. Red meats carry Iron and Vitamin B. Anothe source would be lamb or mutton. One red meat meal a week is recommended. 4. How many Bone In meals should they get in one week?9
It will vary from ferret to ferret. We suggest 7-9 meals depending on your ferrets. Younger ferrets will benefit from 8-9 meals. Growing ferrets need more calcium. Too many bone in meals for some ferrets will give them firm chalky poops, so they cut back on one bone in meal. Some ferrets need more than 7 bone in meals when there poops are too loose. 5. Name 4 organs that should be part of their menu. I know liver is one. But I have never given 4..Organs are hormone secreting organs like Pancreas, spleen, thymus, kidney and of course Liver. Brains and lungs do not secrete but they are nutrient rich so we accept those. Your other organ will also be five percent.
In a weekly menu, they should have two organ meals; 1. Liver plus another Organ, like kidney/thyus/pancreas/spleen. 2. 1/4 portion of Liver plus a 1/4 portion of Other Organ and a half portion of Heart.
If you feed whole prey, the organs are already in there. If you combine Frankenprey with whole prey, then you simply subtract the whole prey meals and count only the remaining Frankenprey meals to calculate the percentage of organs needed. 6. Name two muscle meats.heart and gizards
Very Very good. It's a common mistake to count Hearts as an organ but as you know they are a muscle meat. You will also hear me sing the praises of gizzards. They're great for building jaw strength and can help clean teeth. 7. Is Heart a muscle meat or an organ meal?muscle?
Correct!8. How many animal protein sources should be in their weekly menu?3
3 is the absolute minimum. The more animal sources the better. That way we make sure that they receive the nutrients that some animals offer and some don't. You want a red meat meal and you want to keep your menu from being chicken heave.9. Is Liver fat soluable or water soluable? Why does this matter?not sure
It's very important. Liver has Vitamin A. Since it is Fat soluable, it will remain in their system. Too much Vitamin A can build up to a toxic level and stress their kidneys and liver.
Very high doses can cause the following side effects: vomiting, hair loss, liver damage and painfull joints so a ferret finds it painful to walk. Vitamin A is a good vitamin it is simply one that needs to be treated with respect and given in very, very small doses with a decent break between them.

10. Can you explain the Blockage Protocol that is used when a ferret eats a foreign object like rubber or foam? No I do not know this This is important to know. Ferrets will often find and chew something that can cause a blockage in their system. That could lead to surgery to remove the object. Pick up a can of 100 percent pure pumpkin and a jar of vaseline. Put these in your ferret emergency kit. It's usually an off hour when this happens and you want to be prepared if stores are closed.
The protocol is: One Tablespoon of canned pumpkin One hour later, a Teaspoon of Vaseline One hour later, a Tablespoon of pumpkin One hour later, a Teaspoon of Vaseline.
You will have nice big orange poops after about 3 hours. Look through them for any foreign objects. If the ferret begins to vomit or crash, it's time to take them to a vet. A Barium xray will help to push the object through and may help avoid the surgery.
See you know more than you think you know. We also pointed out a few things to clarify the menu. Very Good for your first pop quizz. You're moving along nicely.

Yay I am glad to learn about blockage protocol . I have been sick with the flu since yesterday. Hopefully I can get weights and pics tomorrow. My kids love turkey gizards Thank you for teaching me soo much. I practice the vitamin a with my dragons as well. It binds calcium if too much is offered so I do understand this.

I'm so sorry you're sick with the Flu. As busy as you are, that's got to be tough. Plus it really isn't any fun to be sick. You feel horrible. Ferrets can also catch your flu so perhaps your husband can take over ferret duties until you're all better. I don't know if your bearded dragons can catch it or if any other pets can catch the Flu. The blockage protocol is important to know about and so is Liver and Vitamin A. Two lessons down, hooray! I'll leave you to be sick and post when you can, over the next few days. Even a meanie like me won't ask you to do any reading or posting until you're feeling back to normal. :wave3:

Hello, I'm back to chiming in as well. I hope you get better soon! The blockage protocol is important to know, almost everyone had to use it at least once when they have ferrets. Though if you suspect a blockage, get a vet appointment as soon as you can, and do the protocol while you wait for the appointment to happen. Ferrets usually choose sometime like Saturday at midnight to have blockage scares. The symptoms to look for are lethargy, vomiting, not pooping 4 hours or longer, and sometimes you can feel the blockage mass in their abdomen. Blockages can be fatal within 1-2 days if they are not treated. You can mix the ferret's favourite oil into the Vaseline and pumpkin for them to eat it better. When you feel better, you can pay the menu and weights and things. Concentrate on getting better

@sakiyamoon It's been awhile now since we have heard from you. At the three week point, I will have to lock your thread and move it to the vault. If you have decided that you no longer wish to continue, please let us know. Our waiting list for Mentors is long and it's a shame to tie up two Mentors when we have other ferrents who are anxious to get started. If you decide not to complete this transition, please don't hesitate to pop in and ask questions on another thread. We will still be here for you and your fuzzies. You are also welcome to reapply later for a Mentor.
