Loki is just an eating machine (dance)
Have you bought any fish oil for him? It can be a great treat. It helps distract them, when you are cutting their nails and full of Omega 3's.
The new little girl is darling. She's deaf and a screamer. Unfortunately, my sweet Juliet is being aggressive with her. I expected Roamy to be a problem, but Juliet accepted Mika and Wynstan, without any problems. She was on Marshall's kibble. Her previous ferrent didn't give me any kibble or even any of her blankets (if she had any). She has eaten some ground pork with egg and tonight, I'll give her some soupie. I really don't want to buy, even a little bag of kibble. We'll see how she takes to the soupie. I'm already in Love with this tiny, sweet little girl. She's a real character.

Things have been really crazy. But we are doing good.
I've only ever met one deaf ferret and he was a really big boy. He was just a sweetheart cuddlier. Sorry that Juliet isn't getting along with her well. Isn't that how it always is with situations like this? It's always the unexpected situation that happens. I hope she warms up to the new fuzzie. That's awesome that she is at least eating pork. How old is the new ferret? Good luck with her!
I'm so glad that Loki eats well. I do have salmon oil which he gets once in a while. I usually just cut his nails when he's sleeping on me. I wasn't sure how often he should get it. I noticed he seemed a little more itchy lately so I brought it back out.
Loki ate some duck yesterday morning without bone and some chicken for dinner. He didn't finish the chicken wing so I left it in the cage for when we get home tonight.

Crazy busy week for you? Hopefully, the weekend will be more restful (or fun).
Did you weigh Loki yesterday?
When you get a chance, try to build a menu and then we can keep track of proteins, and organ meals. We'll begin sneaking some Bone In meals into the menu. It's still early, so we can't expect him to eat alot of bone, but maybe we will get a few small bites into Loki.
When you say he didn't finish the wing, is he eating any of the wing tip or just the meat?
:wave2:

It was but we are home now. After I post this, I'm going to post the other information you needed.
Maybe I'm confused but I thought we were already putting bone-in meals? The last time I gave him a wing he ate the tip, this time he didn't. But his menu and feeding times were thrown off this weekend. I'll let you know how he does with the next one.
We went to the beach today on the way home so he spent an hour digging in the sand and playing in little puddles. I got some really good pictures of him. And he definitely stole the show at the festival on Saturday.

1. Ferret's name: Loki
2. Ferret's weight: 47 ounces (+0 ounces since the last weigh in on 8/15. He was 39-40 ounces when I began on 7/18)
3. Ferret has eaten "X" amount on average per meal: Loki still eats at least three ounces of meat a day. He is taking his first steps on his new diet. He finished a chicken thigh recently between two meals and has started to warm up to gizzards! My friends gave me lamb heart/liver and even a tongue from some of their last slaughtered sheep. So I'm excited about trying those. And of course he loves his chicken foot.
4. Stools on various proteins: Overall normal for being on a raw diet, though sometimes they are dark and others they are light in color.
5. Activity levels: Extremely active still. He spent the whole day outside yesterday and today we went to the beach for an hour. He is currently rampaging around the house. I think he is excited to be home and free roaming again.
6. Weekly menu: I have to work on this, hopefully tonight.

That's a nice healthy weight gain. I would love for him to decide he loves chicken (or duck) gizzards. Tongue is wonderful and full of Taurine. As you know, stools are going to be a little strange during the switch, overall they sound good. Are they darker and looser on organ day? :wave2:
We'll begin to work on bone a little later this week. If you get a chance, try to have some Quail, cornish game hen and chicken wings for his beginning bone meals. Gizzards are a muscle meat, but like I said earlier, they will help build jaw strength for chewing on bones.
Lucky Loki, I would love to spend some time at the beach.

He's starting to warm up to the gizzards. I'll keep working on them with him.
I didn't know that about the tongue. I hope he enjoys it. I'll have to make sure to get some more the next time I go to the butchers.
I'm not sure if they are or not. I'll double check the next time he gets them. I know they are lighter colored when he gets turkey and darker when he gets beef.
He seemed to really enjoy the thigh meat with bone that I gave him. Is that okay?
I wish you could go. It was a really nice trip.

He is really beautiful. I can't get over the rocks on the beach. When we were there this summer, the rocks were so beautiful.
Thigh meat has more nutrients and fat, than plain old chicken breast. It even has more taurine. That's why we suggest that ferrents use it for soupies. A thigh bone is fine for him to chew on, but it is a weight bearing bone and you can't expect him to eat thigh bone. Still its great for a little stimulation and gnawing.

Thanks! I agree (about him and the rocks) lol. I took a bunch of pictures of him on the rocks, weathered logs, and in some plants that were near by.
That's good to know about the thigh meat. When I gave it to him as soupie he didn't like it. But I tried again as chunks and he loved it. I definitely want to use it more. I was thinking this might work for a menu:
Monday AM: chicken thigh meat PM: rabbit bone in (can he have the ribs/spine?)
Tuesday AM: lamb heart PM: chicken gizzards
Wednesday AM: plain turkey meat with yolk PM: Cornish hen
Thursday AM: beef organs PM: bone in duck
Friday AM: chicken wing (maybe chicken foot with it) PM: chicken gizzards
Saturday: bone in meat again PM: goat (I saw some at the meat market and want to try it).
Sunday AM: chicken organs PM: Cornish hen
Let me know what you think. I am open to suggestions. I'll probably go shopping on Wednesday for more goodies.

Your menu looks good. Yes, he can have the rabbit bones. Bones are the Non Weight Bearing bones of an animal that is the size of a chicken or smaller. So, the rabbit fine. When you give the egg with the turkey, use the whole egg and not just the yolk. Thursday and Sunday are your organ days. You want Liver plus another organ and one of those Organ meals should include a half a meal of heart. The percentage of Organs in their weekly menu is approx 10% of the amount that Loki eats in a week. Hearts should be another 10% of his weekly menu. You followed both of their Organ meals with a Bone In meal. That's good. The bones will help firm up the loose poops from the Organ meal. Are you going to try to follow this menu, this week (including bones) or is this menu, just a prototype? If this is your menu for the week, we can talk about introducing bones by smashing them up into little pieces. It's Monday again. I hope this will be a good week for you. Little Keller's intros are going rough, I'm not expecting this to be an easy week.

Excellent thanks so the ribs and spine are okay? I'm not sure if they are considered "weight bearing" or not. I'll try the whole egg, the last time I did he didn't like it. But maybe he won't notice with the meat in there. I'm going to try this menu this week. I think I have everything I need. I thought that I was already supposed to be giving bones so he had some last week. Sorry about the confusion. Thank you and good luck with your little one! I can't wait to see pictures.

No problem with him having bones, last week. The misunderstanding was on my end. There has been some discussion on eggs and some confusion among some ferrents. Whole egg is best. Yolk is fine, but its the egg white alone, that is not good. Here is a link to explain. Hmmm...sounds like a possible test question. holisticferret60.proboards.com/thread/1009My little girl is really fragile and she just makes me want to cuddle her and tell her that everything will be alright. I have posted two threads with pictures, and one with a poor quality video, but you can hear her scream and watch Wynstan look confused at all the drama.

That's alright. He showed some interest which is the most important part. More test questions lol. I'll make sure to look that over. Awww your poor little lady! I'll have to check those pictures out.
