Can ferrets eat squirrel ?
still no kibble in, all the duck wings were gone this AM and the pigeon was gone by lunchtime in the older ones run, it was quail for the older ones PM meal, Ollie spent a good while in the stash box tucking into it (dance) Oscar ate a small amount, but he did eat more of the pigeon in the AM and he normally eats later through the night.
my fridge decided to pack in tonight, so I have nowhere to store there meats once it's out of freezer for the meals, so I have got to find another one quick! My tv broke last week so not been a good few weeks with things breaking and costing a small fortune!

Still so pleased everyone is doing so good. It is so hard to tell age on ferts. One they grow up so fast and a 9 month old (which is still young!) looks like an adult and then you have a 7year old which plays like a year old. Really I think teeth are the best determination. Glad she is gaining though sweet girl.

I am going to say yes about the Squirrel simply because it is something they could technically find in wild. Although I have never heard of anyone feeding it... Did you find a supplier?
I am so sorry about your freezer. What a pain. It is certainly one of those "when it rains, it pours" kind of thing.

Yes it's really hard to get a picture of her teeth as she won't open her mouth, I'm still hoping my mum can hold her and will try then as would like to get rough idea of her age.
They all ate rabbit this AM including Ollie
Yes it's been pretty bad as first my tv now my fridge, Iv got my things in a cool box lol! New fridge should arrive soon I hope!
So far so good with Ollie, so will see if he keep eating it, I hoping he will do as he seems much more into it this time round and is eating things he has never had before

When you can, get a pic of her teeth. It is the top canines that are the important ones from what I understand. It will be interesting to see what others think. I am horrible at it! hahha
I am so happy Ollie has had such a quick turnaround. I wonder if it is somehow related to the kits showing up maybe? Who knows and who cares as long as he keeps it up! :boing:
I think we should talk about getting your graduated in the next few days/weeks. What ever you feel comfortable doing. Worse case, if Ollie does 'go off the deep end' again and stops eating, I think you have the idea of what needs to be done. And I will ALWAYS be available to ask questions and what not also! What do you think?
Basically how it works is I give you a quiz with some essential things that you should know by now (such as taurine amounts, what different stools mean, things that we have gone over etc) and then you give me a 'final menu' and Heather decides that it is ok or not. If you want I can post WHAT the test is going to entail so you can ask any questions about things you are not sure about. Let me know what you think, again, no hurry. But I think your very close to being READY! (dance)

Ok I will try and get a picture of her top teeth Ok yes I feel pretty confident now and think I understand everything important to keep them on a healthy, balanced diet, and like you say I now know what I need to do re Ollie if he starts being difficult again, hopefully now he's got the taste and has decided its much nicer than kibble. He even steals the kits food when I allow him out in the garden, the kits go in his run for change so Ollie take the opportunity to go into there's and eat there food lol!! Just realised I didn't answer your question lol, yes I can get squirrel, but will try that later as don't want to add it yet and put Ollie off lol! My final menu will have minces on alternate weeks just to spread the most expensive whole prey out, but there main diet will be whole prey and for most of the week, so hopefully it's ok So yes whenever you think post the test and I will hopefully pass haha!!

That is so funny about the squirrel.... but a good protein to add. I can envision those wild polecats eating some squirrel! haha
And that sounds good about your final menu. If you want to start working on that and post when you have it I can review it before we send it to Heather. I will work on the final quiz also and get it posted in the next day or two as well. And don't worry! You will pass! And if there are things that you are not sure about then we will go over it. The quiz is simply to make sure your confident in your knowledge, not to fail you!

Alright, that looks good! I will post it to the final menu forum and Heather should see it soon. Here are your questions for your final quiz. Just answer them honestly and to the best of your knowledge. We are not going to FAIL you if you get a few wrong, we basically just want to make sure you know what you need to keep your fuzzies healthy. Answer them as soon as you can and GOOD LUCK!
1. List 2 good sources of taurine: 2. How can you tell if your ferret is getting too much or too little bone? 3. Do chicken, turkey, and cornish game hen (CGH) count as different proteins? 4. How many different proteins does a ferret need in a week at a Minimum? 5. How can you tell if your ferret is too skinny? 6. Is it best to feed the egg whites, egg yolk, or the entire egg? 7. How often on average does a ferret need to eat?

Thinking one quail split over two meal for them at the moment would be enough going on the amount left. I can't leave it in for 24 hours for them I have to chop it up so its kind of open to the air. Ollie ate lamb shoulder this AM he looks good, he's filled out and his coat is soft

I am able to feed the quails whole (granted mine are featherless....) so you might work up to that and it will help it go longer :0)
I am sure he is looking great!

Yes I will do but really wanted Ollie to taste quail and get used to it first, I'm slowly leaving more feathers on it each time so will build up slowly to whole one :-) the older ones aren't eating much though, I thought they would now its getting colder.

1 heart and dark meats possible lung ? Half right! Yes heart and dark meats - perfect! Lung not so much, not to say it ISN'T a good thing to feed, I'm sure it has some lol Other correct answer would have been: BRAIN (my favorite lol)2 stools, to soft need more bone, to firm less bone Correct! (dance)3 yes CORRECT (dance)4 3 CORRECT (dance) one thing you have NEVER had an issue with 5 hold them up, they should be a tube shape and should not be able to see there ribs CORRECT (dance) also, when dangling them, you should not see a waistline, but as you said, a tube shape (giggle)6 the entire egg should be fed CORRECT (dance)7 twice a day HALF correct (dance) What we were looking for here is they eat every 4 hours (on average, because that is how fast their digestion process is), but it is true that you feed a new meal twice a dayWONDERFUL job!!! I am SO happy that things make sense now and that Ollie has come over from the dark side! AND even IF he does revert back to his bratty ways, you (his amazing ferant) know how to convince him to eat healthy again! I haven't heard back form Heather yet about your menu, but I am sure it is fine. She will post on this thread when you are officially GRADUATED! <~~ I love this lil guy lol

It's getting COLDER! Must be nice! August tends to be our hottest time of year here! And that is perfect on the makeing bigger pieces AND leaving on more and more feathers. It's all about slow and steady.
