I got her eating kibble!! She's eating loads and drinking and she much brighter, she wakes and gets up when she see me now, where as before she just slept. I know kibble is not the best but she needs to eat something and get built up and I can afford to feed her whole prey as well, plus if a rescue does offer to have her she will need to be on kibble as they don't feed raw because it makes it difficult to rehome them as lots of people feed kibble, they need to be able to re home because there bursting. So its good she's eating yay!!

Ok will do thanks. I have joined a few groups some people have suggested royal cannin powder from vets as its builds them up. I made her a duck soup she ate some, she's much brighter. I have to advertise I found a ferret and give it 7 days, if no one claims her within the 7 days she then is mine. To be honest I hope they don't because she doesn't look at all like she was treated well, she is stained in urine! I'm going to weigh her in the AM, didn't want to do it before as she needed to settle she's been through enough poor thing!
The kits are doing very well, they devoured the rabbit! They costing me a fortune haha! I gave Ollie and Oscar a hamster, they didn't eat it, I give Ollie one otherwise he feels left out with just his soup lol. He is eating the soup with tiny chopped mice well, I'm going to keep feeding this for a good while to really get him into it before I move on to bigger bits of mouse. He has filled out a lot so once cooler will remove kibble at nights for a while and go from there, slowly does it haha!
I let him meet the kits again, he dragged one half way across the garden!! I had to stop him in the end as the kit was bouncing over the path! Not sure how long Ollie would have kept this up either. Will try again but in house on smooth floor so if he does it won't be such a bumpy ride for kits! I need mum to help with this in house as my dog will eat them lol! So he needs to go in car for 10mins as can't shut him in a room as none of my door shut properly haha!
I'm going to weigh Ollie as well just to see if he's gained since being back on kibble, then will know if he was actually missing meals or not eating enough when on raw, as before we weren't sure if the amount of raw he was eating was the same as what he eats of kibble, so this is a good time to find out.
Oh some people have said Origen cat food it a good kibble, to feed ferrets but it's got fruit and veg in so I don't understand how it can be what do you think ? It rates green ( ferrets will thrive on it ) on the chart of kibbles for ferrets.
I bought a cage for the little Jill, she's happy as she can see out into garden now, she's better outside then in house in false light etc, I don't want artificial light to bring her in season early haha! So got her out side now, the kits have said hello to her :-)
One thing is I'm not sure she can see very well if at all, I can't work out how u tell if a ferret is blind ?

Poor girl, I am glad she seems to be getting along though. I bet she enjoys being outside so she can be 'near' the other ferts. As far as telling if their blind, I don't know that there's a specific test, it's just something you notice I guess. My Pepe is deaf and honestly I didn't even notice until I got Ollie and noticed he would jump at things where Pepe would just sit like nothing happened. The vacuum especially. Lol you might try waving your hand in front of her, trying not to make air movement and see how she reacts.
Also, I am in contact with some of the senior mentors about her to see if they have suggestions on getting her health back but also to find her a place to go, if you truly don't want to keep her. I am so happy she found someone who will love her and keep her healthy. Poor girl.
Sounds like everyone else is doing well. Kits are doing SOOO great! Go babes! Lol I am glad Ollie is eating decently too. Silly boy. I wonder what he thinks he is doing with the kits when he drags them... Is it the same one or is he doing it with both? So strange, I have never seen this before either and honestly would do what your doing, STOP it! However, I know senior members would tell you to let them work it out, no poop no blood no fowl. Mmmm that's a hard one.

She's had duck soup she enjoyed that, she also ate some beef she had a wonder around the garden too, she's so much happier, so it's just a case of getting her weight up. I think she can sort of see but maybe not very well, it's hard to tell. There's no ferret rescue that can take her the rspca phoned yesterday to tell me this, so basically I told them I would care for her, because I don't want the rspca to take her as they don't really know much about ferrets and because she's needs a lot of care they would most likely put her to sleep, I just don't trust them. I don't mind caring for her to be honest, she's not a problem, but if a really, really good experienced home was to come up later on I would consider that. It's hard cause Iv kind of bonded with her lol!! She's so sweet! Oscar ate a head of a hamster, he is brill, he will eat anything even if he's never had it before! Bless him! I don't know why Ollie drags the kits he does it to both, I try to allow him for as long as I can as I know if I keep stopping him he will continue until he's worked it out, I will try him in hallway and leave him longer as the floor is smooth, if he keeps going I will stop him because doing it for a pro long period is no good for baby, maybe when there bigger they will turn round and stop him. The baby's ate a whole quail between them last night, can't wait till they slow down, I spending on there food I'm starving! Haha ( not really ) lol! I was going to weigh them all today including the Jill, but it's pouring down and I can't do them inside as have grumpy dog lol, will try when better out there.

Ahhh I am secretly glad that you possibly want to keep her. She deserves a sweet loving home. here are some info I have been given as far as reuses though from the mentors: www.lincsferretrescue.co.ukwww.northpennineferrets.comI will continue to pass on what they send me just in case. They are all very interested in the outcome of this Jill too. I hope the kits get bigger and that stops Ollie too. What a pain to keep them separated! I know there's the kibble issue also, but still. Silly boys. And yeah, my kiddos ate me out of house and home for a while there too. They are all between 8-10 months now, and with it being summer and quite warm here, it has slowed down from about 10 oz A MEAL to closer to that a day not. Much better.

The mentors have also said to give her eggs and something to replace her calcium from having the kits. So eggshell or bonemeal. They said small meals several times a day.

Thank you, the lincs ferret rescue is full and the other one I suspect if could take her would want me to take her there and I don't drive lol! I know they are all pretty much overloaded as they ended up with lots of abandoned kits again this year :-(
I gave her egg last night but not with shell, so will mix bone meal in with her meals from now on, she's had beef and some heart today, egg and chicken yesterday, she has kibble in there as all I want at the moment is for her to eat as much as she wants so she gets the vitamins etc back in quick. She stashes her meats in her bed yuk!! She eats it through the night.
Regarding the feeding her eggs is that everyday and whole egg ?
She's been out for a little while today too.
She's in a small rabbit hutch, its 4ft long it's all I could find and will do for the time being while she sleeps a lot, once she feels better in will look to upgrade her housing as I hate any ferret in small spaces. I didn't want to give her something to big to start with as when I put her in the shed which is large space she went crazy at the wire door, she seems happy in the smaller hutch and much more relaxed. So this is good whilst she recovers

Although they didn't say about the egg my guess would be only 2-3 a week, so maybe every other day or so. Eggs are basically nutritiously complete and good for sickies and the usually really like them. Of and def the whole egg is best. I would also suggest making a thread in the main board. They can help you with her coming into season and you just never know what people have for suggestions.

Ok I will get some more eggs in. I have been told that she prob won't come into season until next year, if she's recently had kits, but I know what to look for so will get Jill jab if she's still thin, if she gains weight and looks good then will get her spayed. I don't know how old she is vet reckoned about 1 year old, but I think she's much older maybe even 6 years. It's hard to tell with ferrets, her teeth look good, but so does my mums ferret 6 year olds teeth lol! Oh the butcher sells rabbits, I think they contain the heart, kidney and liver, but no feet or head, this is still whole prey isn't it ? Prob a stupid question but I am stupid haha! The Jill loves duck wings! So these will also give her the calcium won't they. I weighed ferrets Oscar 3.1lbs Ollie. 2.11lbs Casper 1.13lbs Chad. 1.15lbs The little Jill 1.5lbs is this a average weight for a Jill ? When I pick her up can feel every rib, bone in her body, she feels kind of hard if that makes sense rather that soft and squishy lol! She has no fat anywhere on her.

Sorry just to pop in but my contacts sent me this information too. I've queried them some more about actual contacts but I hope this helps. Give the wee girlie a hug. 1.5 lbs is a bit light but I know a few hard hunting jills who aren't much heavier than that. Give the brave wee thing a hug. How horrible to be lost or dumped after having a litter of wee kits "(NE Ferret Rescue) and North Pennine are in Northumberland/Co Durham. Lincs ferret rescue is much more local". ciao

Thank you heather, I know she's such a calm, sweet little thing, I have just noticed she's smothered it ticks! I have removed as many as I can but some as do small and she won't keep still so I had to get some treatment from the vets today. Hopefully this will kill them off! Poor little thing. Most of the rescue as full and don't have room so for the time being I'm going to care for her and try and get her healthy and well. Thanks for the info on the rescues though, I will keep them in mind. Thank you

It's hard to tell with ferrets, her teeth look good, but so does my mums ferret 6 year olds teeth lol!I am not sure about the season thing, but that would be nice to not have to deal with that for a while to not only get her health up, but also to give you time to figure her out!! And I think that is a good idea to wait to put her through surgery if she is still too weak. You might ask crazylady or lorelei0922 about 'breeding' them with a V-hob to take her out of season. I have NO IDEA how that works, but it may be a cheaper and less stressful option for her for at least her next season. Also, if you post a pick of her upper teeth there are several senior members that are GREAT at giving a good estimate of age, if you are interested. I would hope she isn't as old as you think because that would mean that she has likely had SEVERAL litters. Poor girl. Oh the butcher sells rabbits, I think they contain the heart, kidney and liver, but no feet or head, this is still whole prey isn't it ? Prob a stupid question but I am stupid haha!First off, NO such thing as STUPID questions! (unless you start asking about the color of the sky or something...hehe ) I would say that it is close enough to whole pray. It has the important organs that are needed and a little less bone than recommended, but fine really. If it is an easier/cheaper option than ordering than don't sweet it! The Jill loves duck wings! So these will also give her the calcium won't they. YES! Just think anything with bones contains calcium! I am so glad she already eats raw, what an easy switch for you! Give you hope that Ollie can be converted. Speaking of, you said the kits have met her, what about the big boys?? I weighed ferrets
Oscar 3.1lbs Ollie. 2.11lbs
Casper 1.13lbs Chad. 1.15lbs
The little Jill 1.5lbs is this a average weight for a Jill ? When I pick her up can feel every rib, bone in her body, she feels kind of hard if that makes sense rather that soft and squishy lol! She has no fat anywhere on her.The boys look great, like normal! Hasn't Oscar GAINED weight?? Little chunker! Ollie still looks good though, glad to see. Is he still eating some raw here and there I hope. If you can, post a menu of what Ollie, and maybe Jill too if you want to keep track of her now as well, is eating. I am not too worried about the other 3 boys because they are on whole which is complete on it's own, so let's focus on Ollie and the Jill for now. Feel free to keep posting weights and OF COURSE pics of the others, but I think you are good with their menu. The kits also look good weight wise, it will be fun to see that number GROW and GROW haha As Heather said, that is low for your Jill, but as you said, she is skin and bones. It will be a good baseline to see how she's doing as you have her. Poor little girl. Just to give you a reference my 'tiny' jill is about 1lb 11oz (which would be about 1.68 lbs), so she's not too far off HOWEVER 3ish oz is a lot for such a small girl! That's almost 1/6 of her little body weight! Any names for your little rescue girl yet? It will have to be something sweet like Hope or Ivy (she "grew on me") or Heidi – used on cat that was scared and "hiding" (if it was a boy it would have to be Gulliver... cause Gulliver did travel! )
