Ok, so no one will eat soup in any shape or form, nor will they eat the natural instinct minced stuff. I think they all prefer chunks. With George being so thin I've been giving him goose fat when he will take it, gizzards, chicken, bonemeal, heart and mice and I'm trying to sneak in liver and kidney in small amounts. I keep trying him with other stuff but he's not interested. It is really warm here at the moment and the old 2 still seem to be sulking that we have 2 new uns.
The young 2 will eat almost anything else, they had chicken carcass yesterday which is good!

Okay. If they have decided chunks it will be then give 'em chunks If Es is eating them time to ditch the kibble entirely as well

We've had to backtrack even further now because of George. Cassie and marvin are fine, they are eating all meats and bone no worries.
George is scarily thin and I'm really worried about him. I saw him eat some of the biscuits that we left out for Es, but I'm really worried. I think I may have to drop out of the mentoring program temporarily whilst I get the weight back on him and figure out what's wrong. I'm so worried about his little face and trying to get him fully raw is secondary to just trying to get him to eat!
Is that possible, could you archive my mentoring thread until I feel I'm in a place to start transitioning him again?

Of course! Just a suggestion though- give him biscuits back for now and get him vetted.

Yeah that's the plan, he was only there last week but will take him back. Hopefully he's just got a bug or something and he'll start putting on weight soon and we can get him back on meat. I'm still giving him meat, but he's got the option of biscuits too if he wants for now. Fingers crossed he's a fatty again soon!

Got an appointment tomorrow morning, so hopefully we will get to the bottom of it then. He's been eating a bit today, he seems to alternate between biscuits and meat (I know you're not meant to give them together but I've kept both available due to his finicky nature at the moment).
His poos are runny, they look like wee with runny poo in it. Though his stools haven't been regular since his operation really.

Honestly I am wondering about IBD. He sounds like one of mine with the finicky appetite, weight loss etc. Do his stools seem to vary for no rhyme nor reason? Fine one time, liquid anothe even if on the same protein?

Vet seems to share your concern and has given us prednicare to give him once a day for the next 10 days to see if that helps. If not the vet is talking about exploratory surgery next. POor George, he's had such a rubbish year!
I'm going to do some IBD research now.

Honestly, a biopsy isn't going to change the treatment at all. And in fact has in the past made the IBD worse. Not always by any stretch but just so you are aware it can happen. If you do want to continue, I would strongly advise leaving all chicken off the menu. And even with the kibble, get a non chicken variety. That is the biggest culprit. Also start keeping a food diary. Do one protein for up to a week, record everything in that diary from what and how much he ate, to what his stools were like, to whether or not anything else stressed him out ie he didn't get out for playtime at the usual time, had a fight with playmates, etc. Do this diary for at least a month and you will start to notice patterns in it. Once that is done you can start working on keeping the IBD under control.

Thanks Sherry. I wish I could change vets, but he's the only one I've found with any ferret expertise. He even tried to tell my partner that ferrets don't get depressed or stressed! I'll start doing that asap and see how he goes.

George's appetite seems to be improving, I've kept him off chicken. I was wondering if he was still able to eat chicken hearts or is that a big no at the moment?

Oh I forgot to add, I left George with a frozen guinea pig this morning and when I came home from work this morning he's eaten nearly all of it! I'm keeping them off chicken to see if it helps his tummy, so picked up ox heart, pigs stomach, lamb, pork and lambs liver. Will see how we get on. He seems to be eating ok again which is awesome!

Oh this is massively good news!!! Definitely keep him away from all chicken, including organs. Okay- ready to get this switch back into full swing again?
