Sonny is eating, playing acting totally normal . Popping normally. No signs of pain, no grinding teeth, etc. But I'm straightening up today and I find that two of these little tiny "ceramic like" (don't know what material they are) rabbits are missing ears.2 ears missing total. I suspected that maybe he ate them because I saw him near them and they were not missing before. So I feel his abdomen and in his intestines I feel one of the ears!! It is unmistakable and no doubt this is an ear. The ears are rounded in the edges. No sharp points. They are very smooth. They are about 3/4 inch long and maybe 1/8 inch thick. I gave him pumpkin and soupies and a lot of cat lax. This is what the ears look like. I can't believe he swallowed it. Looks like they made their way down into his intestines. I'm not sure if I should take him in tomorrow. Like I said eating, playing, pooping normal. this sucks. Any suggestions? I have vaseline petroleum jelly but is it safe to use? but how do I give that?

Take him to the vet ASAP, as I don't know how he could even possibly pass something that large.

Okay, good But it's alright! Just keep your eye on him. I'm sure he will be alright, though I bet they'll do surgery. Don't be angry at yourself either. Ferrets tend to get into the things they shouldn't. Mine randomly started chewing on their blankets they had for about 1 1/2 years. They get into things we would never expect them to.

Thanks. I hope he doesn't need surgery but...thank god he has health insurance. I have owned ferrets for over 20 years. None have ever chewed and swallowed the ears off of these things. Earplugs, rubber, yes. But not something like this!

Oh, no!!! Yes, he will likely need surgery. It's highly doubtful he'll pass those. With any kind of luck they'll stay in the stomach, making surgery that much easier Good luck, and fingers crossed!

Sherry I can feel one of them in his intestine. I am pretty sure he will need surgery. What baffles me is that he is eating/ acting / pooping normally. But I freaked out when I noticed the ears were missing. I know its in there. I just don't know when he swallowed them. He's going in first thing tomorrow. I'm so sad.

By the way, they are like soft rounded edges like bone texture and they look way bigger in that picture than they really are. 1/8 inch thick and about 3/4 inch long. He once passed a big piece of rubber that was twice that size. Regardless, he's going in to see the vet tomorrow. I'm looking at him right now. He's sleeping blissfully . he ate a huge bowl of soup a little whole ago, half of a wysong dream treat. He ate like a pig and he was romping around everywhere playing like a crazy fool. He has no idea what he's in for tomorrow. My poor baby. I'm so mad at myself. And the sad part is I have no idea when he swallowed them.

Oh no! I am so sorry! *hugs* I went through this with Koda and it is NOT fun! If he passed a larger piece of rubber, and the edges are rounded then it is possible that he could pass it. A vet trip is definitely a good idea though! *more hugs* In the meanwhile Vaseline is a god idea - and a lot of it. As long as it is pure petroleum jelly it is good to give. Other ingredients though are a no-no (like obviously no scented ones or vitamins added or anything strange lol). Also some canned pumpkin. As long as he keeps eating and pooping and acting normal. I would push lots of soupies, pumpkin, and Vaseline through him. If he starts throwing up or stops pooping then take it easy on those. Good luck and keep us posted! *hugs* PS watch for him clawing at his face and acting very frantic - these are signs of a blockage. As well as - of course - straining when going potty.

Vaseline and pumpkin....keep feeding it. A candle is lit that the little guy will pass those ears. This is scary, keep a close eye on this. Obviously things are still moving, or he would be exhibiting signs of problems. Rabbits....have to teach him not to eat the ceramic ones Don't beat yourself up....ferrets are often their own worst enemies. Silly wee things ciao

Thanks Katt. I gave him pumpkin and cat lax. how do I give him the vaseline? In a syringe? I was worried bc the vaseline jar reads "if ingested call poison control?" He's eating normally. Pooping normally. Acting normal. This sucks. He's just a baby. Yes he did pass a pretty big piece of rubber. These ear things are thinner and smaller than what he passed and they are smooth around the edges. Only reason I know he swallowed it is because I can feel it in there. And this dork is acting like he doesn't have a care in the world. this ferret is going to kill me one if these days. I swear.
