They did great. I wish they'd eat pork as fast as they ate pork heart
I gave them chicken thigh today and I'm watching Gus but I think he is good.
We are moving in August and hopefully we won't have anymore bug problems. The new place also has doors so no more open floor plan, I'm excited.

Okay- some questions now 1. Taurine. If you can't get a supply of hearts, how much taurine supplement should they get? 2. Are gizzards a muscle meat or an organ? 3. What healthy dietary item can be used for hairballs, and how often should it be given?

Thank you for this. I need to do more reading 1. I believe it is 2 oz a week. Wait that is for regular hearts. I can't seem to find where it was and I never knew there was a taurine supplement. I don't know. Please enlighten me to where it is. 2. This one I also had to look up. It is a muscle meat. I knew it didn't clean or count as organ meat but I thought it was a organ. 3. Pure Vaseline, eggs, or olive oil. I give it either when they are hacking or once a week during shedding season.

Okay Glad I asked these! 1. Taurine supplement is a powder. Dosage per ferret if you can't find heart or beef tongue is 500 mg capsule per ferret per day. 2. Correct 3. Eggs are the dietary item used to break up hairballs, and they are given once or twice a week I am going to pick out a few more random questions that way I have a better idea of exactly where we need most to work. Main reason for this is so if anything crops up with your little ones you have a sound knowledge base to make whatever decisions and changes you need to. 1. How can you tell if your ferret is getting too much or to little bone? 2. What counts as a "different protein source"? 3. List two organs aside from liver.

Thank you. The taurine supplement is good to know.
1. Too much calcium makes them pee a lot( i learned that the hard way when doing eggshells) and you can see bone fragments in the poop, Too much and the poop is like dusty. 2. I am not sure if I understand this. I am guessing you mean different type of meat. Like chicken, so the different protein choice would be turkey. 3. Two other organs would be kidney and brain.

1. Too little calcium can make it SEEM like they pee a lot more(that will be the raw itself by the way ) but what it actually does is cause very loose stools. Everything else is correct! Would you like to do a few more questions before we get you graduated, or do you feel confident enough?

That makes sense that Raw makes them pee more since I was just starting.
Can I actually have 3 more questions?
I'm excited to graduate.

Of course you can 1. In an emergency (you run out of bone), what are 2 acceptable bone substitutes and how much should your ferrets get? (be specific) 2. Is it best to feed the egg whites, egg yolk, or the entire egg? 3. How long does each type of meat generally stay good: raw soup, ground meat, med-large chunks, bone-in meats, whole prey?

1. eggshells or bone meal. I have never given bone meal but eggshells are 1 teaspoon per 8 oz. 2. I have heard the entire egg is okay . I feed just the egg yolk because they don't care for the white. 3. raw soup- 8 hours( it never lasts that long), ground meat 8 hours( same) med chunks 12 hours, bone in meats 24 hours, whole prey 24-48.
it is good to know about emergencies. Time to reread the forum!
