Great weights! Keep weighing to make sure she's getting enough food. If she's going through a coat change she could reduce her eating. BEst to keep a good journal of weights just to make sure...especially if she starts looking shaggy. I nearly had my Daisy off to the vet when she started her shed. I was very glad to have a history of weights.
HAHAHA You are a sneaky mommy! I love it! Trickery works! Keep it up!

So Mika has been eating a little but more duck in with her chicken without me tricking her lol so she's getting used to the taste again. And I tried a chicken wing tip with Alto tonight and held it there between his back teeth and he chewed it! Well he chewed it then it was like he was sucking on it for the longest time. It was weird I don't know why he does that. Then after sucking on it for a bit, he gagged lol then I made him chew on it some more and again he sat there slowly sucking on it.

hehehe That's where the good stuff is! It's in the insides! LOL As long as he keeps getting tastes of it he will continue chewing on those bones. Daisy does that with duck feet...chew, chew, suck, suck, chew, chew, suck, suck. LOL It's almost like she's falling asleep.
Good for Mika! Keep working on her! That's good news. HOpefully she will pick back up the way she was soon now.
How do they do with really bloody pieces of meat? I know mine really love having a bloody mess to lick up...almost like it stimulates the to eat after they get all the juice out of the bowl.
Keep plugging away! One step at a time!

Yes they both LOVE bloody meat lol when I cut up a duck there's always so much blood in it so I save it till the end when I'm packaging it all and spoon in some blood into each baggie of meat lol With the wing tip for Alto, I think I'm gonna trim off the skin part on the one side cuz I think it may be too big for him to chew really good. I'll do that with the next one and see how he does. Just cuz he gags a bit lol Oh and I increased the size of chunks of chicken with him too! So in a day or 2 he will be on those. He's been loving chicken Weights: Alto: 1340 Mika: 888

Good news! Keep working on the chunk sizes with him. He'll get it. He'll really love the larger pieces because there is so much more marrow in them.

Can ferrets have freezer burnt meat? None of mine are but just wondering. As I was feeding Alt last night I was holding into a piece of duck by his back teeth for him to chew and I got my finder in there....yup those teeth are sharp! Lol didn't make me bleed but man that hurt haha

Yes, meat that is freezer burned is a little dry...but no harm with feeding it to them. Oh goodness! Glad you didn't get hurt! those teeth are sharp...I have been nipped when hand feeding too...that is sooo not fun!
If Alto is doing good, it may be time to push him a little again. You haven't said anything about his meds lately so I take it everything is going well there.
How much is he eating at each meal and for his snack. I'm leaning toward reducing his breakfast by a tiny bit to make him a little more hungry at dinner.
Were you ever able to get cornish hens? those are such a great size for ferrets...it'd be nice if you could try them. But if I recall they were very expensive where you are.

Yes Alto is doing pretty good with his meds. That's what he looks forward to after he eats lol he sits there looking up at me waiting for it haha he just loves it. Oh yes actually I did pick up a Cornish game hen a while back but haven't cut it up yet. I will have to do that. It was on sale I think for $7 or something I can't remember. I have been cutting back a little bit. Some days he only gets 2 meals and he does great! But he's been wanting to eat most of his food in one sitting sometimes lol he's been getting the chewing down pat more too. Chewing off to the side instead of swallowing whole. He tries tho at times and then gags cuz the chunks are so big now haha. He will learn. We definitely have to make a trip down to Havre one of these days and pick up some meat.

Sounds like he's doing really good! You don't want to jump the gun with chunk sizes but it sounds like you are keeping him challenged. Fantastic job! Keep it up! d*mn, it might almost be worth it for me to buy a bunch of hens and drive them up! It actually sounds like you are adjusting really well for his food needs. Find out how you can cut back and then give him those things that he might not "want". He might be hungry enough. I'm glad he's doing well...he sure does look healthy! hehehe Have a good vacation..I look forward to many stories when you get back!

Haha Alto has never been this big in all his life! Camping got really cold at night, got down to freezing there was frost even! But Mika and Alto had so much fun camping in the motorhome. New place again so they were hyper she never wants to play at our house anymore. Unless we take them downstairs, then she plays again silly girl. I'm gonna have to make it more fun upstairs for her. Move some things around. This week I'll be cutting up more meat and that Cornish game hen too.

hehehe I'm glad you all had fun! I'm so jealous..I wish I could take them with us out camping!
I've found that all of my ferrets are larger now that they are raw fed. Especially Mickey. Big fat boy! LOL I have one that won't play unless he's out in the rest of the house. He's just not too interested in their room anymore. It is a job keeping them stimulated. Moving things around does seem to help. Also washing all of their toys and tubes. They seem to think they are new again?
Cool, cant wait to hear how they do with the hen. Mine love it...that is definitely one of my staples for them.

I have the hen out thawing for tonight. I had to space out my week with cutting meat lol Tuesday was chicken. Wednesday was a duck and tonight is the hen. Hmm that's probably why my wrist is sore now that I think of it! So last night I smashed up a chicken neck for Mika and drizzled the duck blood on it and bits of duck meat and she didn't want to touch it lol. Well she did eat a bit of it over night but not much. As I was cutting up the duck she was waiting cuz she was hungry so I gave her a small piece and she took off with it and left it under the bed lol she is being stubborn. She will like it again one day.... Oh and I fed Alto a couple duck ribs and he was lovin it. I can't wait to try this hen out with them. Does it taste like chicken?

Well Alto ate it up like it was chicken this morning! I didn't mix with anything else, it was just CGH. And he loves the bones too. I tried giving a small piece to Mika last night when I was cutting it up and when she doesn't want something she makes this sound...I can't explain it. It's almost like a dook sound but it's a hate dook sound lol so I just left it. I'll try again tonight with her.

Mika likes the CGH too! I gave Alto half of the wing from it tonight and he ate pretty much all of it! I had to hold it of course but he ate it! I couldn't believe it. It's the biggest bone he's ever had. I'm suprised he bit down hard enough to break it apart. It took him a bit of trying bit it was awesome!

Hey great progress! CGH is a staple here and everyone loves it! Yay! That's fantastic! They are just the right sized bird for a ferret and they can eat the whole thing. I'm hoping that having a CGH will get them better at eating bones All the bones can be eaten and other than a bit of extra muscle on the breast, when it's cut up every bite has bones.
I've read that other people have difficulty with ferrets just turning their noses up at some meats after a while...with not even a simple explanation hehehe. If it's just the duck, I would give it a rest and go back to it later. I think that you have enough other proteins with the CGH added in there now.
When you get the time can you post a weekly menu? i think we should start working on finalizing your menu to prepare for graduation soon. You already have a well balanced diet and your only issue now is increasing chunk sizes and reintroducing some proteins. But both of your babies are doing well and maintaining their weight.
