As long as he's not spitting them out, he's eating them! It's good to challenge them. Keep with that sized chunks and still hand feed him if necessary. It really shouldn't be easy for them to eat...he's just playing around. hehehe It takes my bunch a very long time to eat dinner, much longer than when they eat soupies. That time of chewing is good for their teeth and head muscles. It's also stimulating to them to work at their food, especially when the stuff inside the bones is sooo darned yummy! They both are holding their weight well, definitely getting enough food. Hmmm....I wonder if he is reverse seasoned. You will know if he's still that weight and keeps that coat into the mid summer. Mickey just started to shed a bit the other day. And now he's flat ferreting all over the house because he's hot. I wish I could get rid of some of that hair for him. I brush him and he's still not letting the hair go fully yet. Last summer he was in full winter coat...poor guy! He was hot and fat!

He does sometimes spit them out. It'll fall out and all crushed by his teeth lol but I would say most of the time he is eating them. With Mika....ie been slowly adding in duck more and more but I was watching her tonight eating, she will eat around it and if she picks up a small piece of it, she will shake her head and spit it out lol seriously!!!! She used to LOVE it! I don't get it!! I even put salmon oil all over with it and it was mixed with chicken.....she's being a booger. I'm going to just leave it in there tomorrow too if she hasn't ate all night and see if she's hungry enough to pick at it. I know she was hungry tonight cuz she follows me from the kitchen to her room where the cage is and runs up to her meal. Then she licks around it haha. I'm just hoping she will just get hungry enough that she will eat it. OR I could hand feed her mostly chicken then sneak in a small piece of duck....that might work. Now that I think of it, that's what I did the first time gettin her to eat different meats at the start.

hehehe Yep! You got it! I've heard other say that they have to do that every time they take a break from a particular protein for a while. That's what I would do...small pieces in with chicken and trick her into tasting it! they are so darned picky!
Glad he's eating some! Keep working on it and he will pick it up eventually. It does sound like he's getting used to it though. At least it's "most of the time"..that's better than never! LOL

Sounds good! I'm doing the same thing, by the way...with duck. My crew doesn't care much for it so I'm working with them now on it.

Trying to get Mika to eat by hand lately is impossible! Lol she wants to eat on HER terms, whenever SHE wants to eat I tried tonight and she was fighting me wanting nothing to do with it so I just put it in her cage and a couple hours later I go check on it, expecting all of it to still be there and most of it was gone lol little shizer! So it looks like she ate 3 out of the 4 small slices of duck I added in there. So that's good! I tried to hand feed her it the other day and she bit it and chewed the tiny piece and she spit it out all slobbery lol Sometimes this raw feeding is SO easy, then other times like this it's so hard. But if she ate 3 out of 4 slices of the duck in there that's a good sign! Unless she just stashed it somewhere...she better not have haha Oh and Alto decides he doesn't like turkey much anymore...and now loves chicken! Which was the opposite all along! And I have like 6 turkey thighs in the freezer too lol ugh

OMGosh! Little stinkers, the both of them! They can be finicky for sure. Check all the beds to find any stash. I found a huge stash tonight...they are in full on slow down mode with eating. It could be that Mika is doing the same...doesn't need as much food these days. Alto... LOL he's keeping you on your toes! Keep up the good work and let me know how things are going! Time to go shopping again!

Mika's been acting kind of "off" the past few days, but she's eating really well. I mixed quail in with her chicken today and she's eating a bit of it I think. When I let her out of the cage, she goes and hides like she's nervous or something. Very weird. And I found a really funky poop in the bathroom of hers. It was like a yellowish glob of jelly type of poop that was runny and it smelled bad (according to Clint lol) But it could be just the little bit of duck she's eating. Plus I added duck blood/juice to her food the other day. So could be weird from that. She's not used to it. I ran out of duck ribs for Alto....so I'll try chicken ribs. I wonder if u can buy the rib part only if I talk to a butcher...I'll have to ask around cuz I dunno where else to get lots of rib bones lol

I would feed Mika some of her regular food to see if she's okay. Please do that for a day and get back to me. We need to rule out an allergy.
Talk to the butcher to see if they will will separate the ribs. I don't think they will but it would be a good question to ask!

Ok I fed her the regular chicken and bone in chicken and her poops are ok now. But I also did give her a few drops of colloidal silver and reishi just in case. U know what's weird, she was on the bed the other day and my dogs were on there too and Mika slowly walked over to her and then her tail got all bushy and she was acting scared. Almost like she could smell them but couldn't see them...it was so odd. Her eyes look fine tho. She acts like that when the dogs are around, but as soon as we go downstairs, she's Mika again! I don't understand. It's like all of a sudden she doesn't like the dogs lol She just stares them down all the time until my dogs cower and walk away lol Her poops are looking better anyway.

Glad the poops are better! are you still keeping your diary with food and poops? If you have some doubts, do that again for a few weeks to see if you can see any commonalities. I'm happy to look at them if you would like s well.
how far away was Mika from the dogs on the bed? Ferrets don't have the best eyesight. I have read that they see movement better when it is going up and down rather than back and forth (like a mouse jumping up and down while moving). A lot of the time, at least in my experience, they can smell the kitties before they actually see them. It could be exactly what you said....she could smell them first and was waiting to see their movement.

That could be! My dog was jut sitting there real still and Mika came along and slowly approached her while her tail was getting fluffy. She did get about a foot away then she took off. She's never done that before but she is acting different around them. I dunno.... Mika's been basically eating chicken only, I've been trying to sneak in duck and quail and she usually just leaves it. She won't let me hand feed her either. I'm thinking I have to add some soupy to her food and sneak in other meats that way. U know what's funny...the soupy is a mixture of turkey, duck, quail and chicken! And she loves it! Lol but when it comes to a tail pieces of it, she thinks it's yucky. That's my next step for tomorrow nights supper I think I'm going to add a bit soupy mixture to her chunks and see how that works. I'll write down what I add to every meal again too

Yes, go back a bit and add a little soup to large-ish chunks. Start with her chicken chunks and add one or two of another protein in after a day or two. You can also make your soupies with less and less chicken and more of another protein so she gets the taste of each one separately. You could have a few things going on with her....1) you are spending extra time with feeding Alto. She could be having a bit of jealousy. Spend some extra time with her and see if it helps. 2) She could still be having some issues with adjusting after the loss of Donut. She may just need a little more mommy time and some extra special care. The soupies help in that case...keep her fed well and slowly increase the other proteins. They both have been through some really, really rough times over the past few months. Donut's death and your vacation came so closely together that it set them both back a bit. Mika seems to be regressing in her progress but it's not un-doable. Let's try to get them both back on track.... start writing down all of their meals and their subsequent poops. Please try to report in at least three times a week for the next few weeks (if possible) and at least jot down what they've been eating and how they've been acting. We need to try to nip this back quickly and get them back on track to moving forward.
We will get this done, it just takes time! <3

Well Mika does get a lot of attention from us...me and Clint both take turns with Alto and I am always watching her eat and always cuddling her...but once she gets to go downstairs to play, she's crazy again! Haha So this morning I gave her chicken and added a couple pieces of Altos duck in there and she was eating around it so I put a couple drops of oil on it and she ate it right up! Haha I tricked her so we'll see if she ate the other piece when I get off work later. Oh I forgot to weigh them yesterday so I'll do that tonight too and write it down and let u know.
