So looks like they are finally starting to give in to eat the bones. Although they don't eat all of it they are definitely eating some of it.

When you get a chance post your weekly menu so we can see where we are progress-wise. Just put down what you feed them am/pm each day for one week.
Specify what they ate as far as bone in meats (wings, necks, raw grinds with bone in it) Whether raw mush with organs & hearts
Also write down total ounces of hearts, liver & kidney they are getting each week.
Yes, there is a point to this. Lol

Ahh, im sorry we didnt repsond sooner. We became new parents to four 6 week old kittens we found under our house that weekend. We spent the whole weekend catching them and have been taking care of them ever since non stop. We both though one of us responded :/ I will work on a "menu" tonight or tomorrow and send it The fuzzies are doing well though. They are eating a bit more bone. I just have to hack it up in pieces. They arent fans when i give them the whole thigh bone.... They eat their gizzards like champs and the mush like piggies still. lol , Hope all is well.

Oh poor little kitty! Btw kitty can eat the same thing that the ferrets eat. Glad they are eating more bone. No rush just post a menu whenever you get a chance. Goal is to follow that frankenprey menu that I gave you in the beginning.

Wow, ok i am a horrible person for time right now. SOooo much going on and we still have the 4 kittens. However they at least have homes in place. Now we have just been feeding and socializing... along with all of our other 4 children to take care of. But we caught and got the mommy fixed so this will hopefully never happen again.
So the fuzzies are off the mush. So a week looks like this
Monday- I would give them thigh and liver with bone Tuesday- same as Monday but add a heart to that Wednesday- give them gizzards with the muscle meat. Thursday-More thigh and liver with bone and gizzards Friday- thigh with a heart or two since they dont share well Saturday-just thigh and bone Sunday- thigh some bone and some gizzards
I actually try to give them some type of bone once a day because i am still unsure of who is actually eating the bone... so whoever doesnt get the bone that day, because they have two dishes, i add a small pinch of bone meal. They did however love the chicken neck i cut up for them. I give them chicken, turkey, beef liver, chicken liver and chicken gizzards. I found an asian market that i can get other weird organs as well. Can they eat any organ ? Or fish ?

Poor kitties.
I hate it when people dont neuter their cats and let them outdoors. Feral cats are a big problem where i live.
They can eat fresh water fish. Salmon, trout. Maybe a few x a month.
How are poops looking? If too loose/runny then they aren't eating enough bone. You can definitely add in a few more bone in meat meals. It is always an ongoing adjustment. If you see that they did not eat all their bones during one or two meals, then add bone meal or eggshell to their next meal, or give a grind that has bone in it. That way you balance it out.

See if you can get duck at the asian store. It is fatty so just feed like once a week.
Yeah they can eat any organ. Liver, spleen, lungs, thymus, pancreas.

I would add one more protein to your rotation. Lamb or pork are good as a third protein. Quail. Cornish game hen.

YAY Ok I will go on a duck hunt lol to change it up a bit for them. They are still doing great though. Happy little monsters Actively messing with the rest of our zoo. They love messing with our German Shepherd puppy. They are in their play pen and she comes around they "chase" her as she walk past or if she sits down with her paws against the pen then nibble at her toes lol.

so are they eating enough bone?
another task, once you add in the other protein (need a minimum of 3 proteins rotated)
then post a weekly menu again. follow the guidelines that i gave you in the beginning. the frankenprey menu.
the point of all this is to have Heather review it and see whether you are ready to graduate from the program. once we are confident that you know how to feed a balanced raw diet, then you can graduate. i will always be here if you need me. if you want i can pm you my cell phone number.
here is the frankenprey menu that we follow:
Monday am: edible bone in meat Monday pm: edible bone in meat
Tuesday am: edible bone in meat Tuesday pm: muscle meat
Wednesday am: edible bone in meat Wednesday pm: heart
Thursday am: edible bone in meat Thursday pm: edible bone in meat
Friday am: edible bone in meat Friday pm: muscle meat
Saturday am: edible bone in meat Saturday pm: muscle meat
Sunday am: edible bone in meat Sunday pm: liver/organ
Edible bone in meat: chicken, any bone. quail, rabbit, turkey necks, ribs, and wing tips. duck neck, ribs, and wing tips. pork button bones, pork rib ends. cornish game hen, any bone. any commercial frozen raw with 10% to 15% ground bone (some good brands: Stella & Chewys, Bravo, Natures Variety Instinct, Rad Cat, Primal feline, Vital Essentials). Any freeze dried raw with 10%-15% ground bone (Stella & Chewys makes freeze dried raw).
Muscle meat: any heart meat. chicken(including gizzard), turkey, duck, lamb, goat, beef, CGH, venison, elk, basically any meat without bone.
Organ meat: Liver, kidney, thymus, pancreas, reproductive organs, lung, brain, snout, basically any part of the body that secretes.

i was showing your menu to Heather the admin here. she suggests that you try smaller poultry bones as thigh bones may be too tough for them to break. perhaps they would eat more bone if you try something other than weight bearing bones from the chicken. try rib cages/spines, wings. you said they like necks so those are good to use for bone in meats.
also, i wanted to ask you just how many ounces of liver are you giving each week? because you list liver a few times in your menu. it should only be 2 ounces of liver per each ferret per week. that is about 1 chicken liver per ferret each week.
were you able to get another of those weird organs from the asian stores? usually at the grocery stores i see beef kidney. so that is one you can use. should be 2 ounces of liver and 2 ounces of another organ each week (per ferret). then like 3 ounces of raw hearts per ferret each week. the raw hearts meal can be considered a muscle meat meal.
how are their poops looking? firm and well formed?

Hello! Ugh, We started school again. yay, as if enough things werent going on We also ended up keeping two of the kittens after one got sick and i got attached.. opps Anyway we have done some necks and wings they are better with them. They hate turkey. Hate hate hate it. They love hiding what they dont eat. I picked up a box and bones fell out... Weirdest thing ever. They defiantly get 2 oz of liver. They really like that and their gizzards. I havent made it to the asian market to get interesting organs. Their poops are more on the normal side just a bit dark I guess you could say? How are you ?!

i'm doing good. try mixing the turkey in small amounts into whatever other meats they like. if you see that they are not eating the bones, then that means the bones are too big for them or we have to keep breaking them up with a hammer. and continue to add eggshell calcium to their meat grinds. because we don't want a calcium deficiency. if stools are on the dark side, could mean too much liver or other organs? are they dark like every day?
