I have gotten a hold of turkey neck, heart liver and gizzard. That is next on the agenda to start. I called the only butcher in the area and to my surprise he does not carry organs on a regular basis. He is supposed to call me when he gets beef organs in. My nephew is going to also start saving organs and meat that he does not use from the animals he hunts. He asked about squirrel meat... he constantly has squirrel and does not use the meat, bones or organs what so ever same for racoon. Can ferrets eat these meats?

Yes. They can. Make sure you freeze for 2 weeks to kill any parasites. You can use any wild meats but just make sure to freeze instead of feeding fresh. I will be interested in how it's recieved ciao

Yay that works for me I should see him again closer to Christmas so I will have to see what all he hunts. I know squirrel, coon, deer first sure. If he doesn't hunt rabbit I am going to see if he happens to come across any if he will get me a couple. he hunts coyote too I believe. I am also interested on how well they will eat wild game. It may be a little more work on me as far as skinning if it hasn't been done already but its free and healthy ;D.. I have Alaska salmon as well bone and all.. just kinda scared to try it lol.. I am so sensitive to smells

My guys love fish....just remember if you supplement with fish oil, on the day that you feed fish go easy on the supplement Just a thought....take care feeding the internal organs of carnivores, the liver in particular. It's often quite high in vit"a". Any others are fine. Always check the livers of rabbits, there are flukes or something and if infected the whole rabbit is bad, just pitch it (it gets into the meat) ciao

Thanks I didn't know that about rabbit!! They get one liver meal a week in-between a meat and sometimes gibblet and heart meal.. this week it was in-between 2 bone meals. So we have 4 proteins they like! Beef, turkey, pork and chicken!! We are eating meat and bone ... today I snipped a few piece on the wing in the thicker part but other than that the whole wing went in. Last night was turkey neck and turkey heart. They loved it!

Are all your wee ones eating bone comfortably? Perhaps, you should consider drawing up a menu and lets see where things are and what you've got lined up. We will revue it and see where you need to improve or if everything is ok....maybe even get you to graduate ciao

Isn't is awesome....I love it when the little ones teach the others how to eat raw. At one point when my business was really large, I never had to switch a rescue, except to do the initial nose dabs. Everyone taught everyone else. It was great. A little competition is always fantastic. A couple of questions....turkey legs, pork and beef bones....your guys eat the bone on these or do they just eat the meat? How are your guys stools...better? Pounding down a bone isn't a bad thing. I do that for my guys too...especially Odin, though he does a really good job despite having very few teeth (cage wars do horrible things to your teeth ) ciao

When the beef and pork bone are hammered down they do great. Ash prefers Chicken and pork bone. If all the meat is off the bone I will leave it a day or so because Luna and Aurora will chew on them for a while.

Turkey leg bone is something I figured I would try new. Beat it down and see what happens.. if all else fails they will chew on the bone for a couple days. Their poop looks great. Nice, formed stools. U can see where they are eating the bone. ( having the bone out a little longer has helped when it came to their last organ meal.) They are eating good amounts. I do think that their seasons are messed up. I was looking around on the forum and saw some spring and winter ferrets ( the difference) it appears my older ones think its spring and may have the same issues with aurora seeing she was born late September

Don't be surprised about your guys seasons being screwed up. I believe that between getting wee ones born in the off season, our central heating and our lighting (this is a really big one), the little ones don't have a chance really. I never realized just how much one extra hour of lighting makes to their system. You don't really think about it and unless you've got intact ferrets there's nothing to show that you're screwing up their systems even worse. I certainly never even thought about it, at least not until I brought my hob into season in October . It's that simple ciao

I know you're probably busy but ..... I had Sherry check your menu and she caught something I had missed...do you have access to different types of organ meats? you've got liver but do you have access to even kidney? which would offer just another variable to your diet. Just a thought. ciao

Now that the holidays are over I am going to call a couple more butchers around here.. I am looking in a 40 mile radius. I am also going to call the one here in town because I forgot to ask if he does orders so then I can order kidney and different hearts and livers. I would like to see what all I can get from him.. I also have a list of stores who have butchers in them and plan to check them out this weekend ;D Eating habits have been amazing with them. Ash and Luna are not shying away from anything and eating bone very well.. aurora is being a fuzzy tummy with teeth lol.
