He is a good boy and biting and nipping has only been done in stress situations. I also gave him some pumpkin incase it was a hairball issue. He is totally fine now and eating some. Luna is eating it from the bowl now. Aurora well.. I am convinced she will eat anything set in front of her lol. Sent from my ADR6325 using proboards

I put a bowl on the scale, zero it out and then put the wee ones in a bowl. I usually treat them with seal or salmon oil so they will stay still long enough for me to get an acurate weight ciao

Don't worry about it. I have to admit after wearing out about 6 different scales, each one has a learning curve and getting an acurate reading is often difficult. ciao

Proper weights for the fuzzbutts Luna: 609 Ash: 948 Aurora: 598 We had a major cage cleaning yesterday because my house smelled of death... there is an area of the cage I cant see well because of a low shelf.. it turns out some food was stashed and aurora has not been using the litter box it was horrible!!! Now I have a blanket there so she had to use the litter box hehe!! So she is learning fast. She has used it since the cage clean not sure why she has not been using it because when she is out she uses it and not the floor. Sent from my XT901 using proboards

Ok, we will start using these weights and whatever you did, we will continue weighing in this manner. Those aren't bad weights. 2 wee girlies and a boy right? Are these Marshals ferrets? If so they're not bad weights....your wee Ash might be a bit on the light side but you can probably tell by feel. Hmm, I know what you mean about finding the "dead". I know Tico's stashed something somewhere...I just have to find it At least the hob room is smaller than the ferret room. ciao

Oh my goodness.. These ferrets are bottomless pits. I cut up 14 ozs and fed them tonight because the 12 has not seemed to be enough. I ran out of wings lol so they are eating thighs tonight. Boneless but they are up to medium chunks. Also I have a melatonin question.. when should I start the kit on it?

I don't use it as a prevantative. It doesn't work I wait until I see symptoms and then use it as a primary defence. There is a question about if the DES works that way though...no proof though. Miami has her Sonny on DES as preventative though...you could try pm'ing her and see when she actually put Sonny on. I believe it has to be in Jan, it's supposed to be given before the first hormone surge. Now, having had some kits that were born in the Nov/Dec and Jan time frame who's seasons are totally messed up I don't know. Great work with the meat....fantastic. Keep offering the meat with bone, eventually chewing on the meat they will eat the bone. Take a hammer to them crunching them up smaller. ciao

How's the bone eating going? From the sounds of the stool we need to up the bone a bit. Tarry stools usually implies recently fed organ meats or a lot of blooded meats? Is this the case? Green stools would imply that you're trying a new food (the pork?) From the sounds of things, weights are going well. They're looking slender but not skinny. Looking good. I would like to see the stools a little more solid without the tarry appearance. Let me know what you're feeding and how and we will work on this ciao

I woke up to 2 peices of neck stashed and Ash of all ferrets eating away at the one in the bowl. These have a good bone content as well. I found the 2 peices and placed them back in the bowl. Ash refused to eat it last night until he saw Luna and Aurora eating. The night before was liver and the am was heart. Night before that was full giblets ( I forgot to go shopping that night:-[ ) the pork is new and they love it!

Ok, tarry stools make sense then. You may want to put a bone meal in between the organ meats.... Such as liver am and a bone meal in pm. The gibblets the night before then liver and then heart would be the reason for the tarry stools. It's undigested blood. It's also why they're a bit loose. It's not a problem as long as you keep track that it's diet related. So...what are you going to use for another protein source? ciao
