For now, I think finger feeding will be your best bet. If she takes it willingly from your finger, you could try feeding from a spoon with her still sitting on your lap. Take my advice and use a towel though ;D Here's a pic of Boris enjoying his breakfast ;D

So! about two hours ago, Meeko got an hour's play with Lyla, and after the play I noticed she was looking around the bottom of the sick cage for some crumbs of the raw. So I gave her some more and this time I added a bit of water. I gave her about half of a mini medallion, and with 3 mls of water. She started eating regardless of the water! So instantly, I added another 3 mls, and she kept on eating! She ate the whole half of a medallion along with approx 6 mls of water! YAY!! I couldn't have asked for better!! Now, the real question is... is she going to let me do that again? Let's hope so! Thanks for the tip, I sure hope this works well for her!

That is fantastic....here's hoping she continues to be adventurous in her food choices. She is still a baby, sick or not so she should be more open to food as long as she's feeling well ciao

This morning again she really wanted the floating freeze dried (lol)... I am quite happy! PS: Sherry, that is SO cute! haha Ours kids are all very spoiled! hahaha I had noticed the NEED for a towel when I was finger feeding the canned a/d... there would be more on the towel than what she actually swallowed.... Thanks everyone for the tips! I hope it all helps Meeko in the short "Long Run"... lol! PS: She's getting her stitches out tonight, so she can sleep with Lyla again starting tonight!!! NO MORE SICK CAGE!! lol

She'll be so happy for the freeze dried, why not try letting it start to soak up a bit of the water, see if she still likes it?

For the moment she doesn't seem to like it as much once it's soaked all the water up, but she doesn't mind it dripping wet, and she laps up the water after... lol... This morning, before leaving, I gave her enough for her breakfast and enough for the day if she decides to eat it (it's so hard to predict when she'll eat.... sometimes she eats during the day while I'm gone, sometimes not.... I end up wasting a lot when I give fresh foods like re-hydrated raw because I have to toss it when it's been out for about 8 hours... Oh well! Hey, I have a question a little bit off Meeko's topic... But before I think I should put you into context... Since I've had Lyla, (for the past 3 years), I've gone through 3 vets. At first I went to the vet in Beaumont (because I lived in Beaumont), and the vet accepted raw feeding as a good diet IF the owner could keep up with it but he wouldn't do it himself. At the time, I just couldn't keep up with the preparation and all, so I changed to a high quality grain-free kibble mix. Then, I moved and Beaumont was too far, so I changed to a vet called Ottwell Vet clinic. I went there once for shots, and I asked the vet if it's ok to reduce the food available to Lyla since she's... well... kinda pudgy (lol). She said yes, or another option is that I could change her food to a lower fat content kibble. I inquired about changing her onto raw (or freeze dried, or even Ziwipeak). Her answer was flat out "Raw isn't good for anyone, really. No. Stick with kibble" So I dropped it... no use into getting into a fight with the vet... Then, I had to go to Parks Vet in Sherwood Park for Meeko's operation, and post operation, food became a topic because she was to be fed with grain liquid and canned for a while. His reaction (not the vet I saw, but the vet who operated on Meeko) to me having the girls on grain-free cat kibble was "There are some very good quality grains out there, like Quinoa, that pets can benefit a lot from, you shouldn't take those away from them (my thought was... cheat with grain kibble probably don't even add that in... just the cheap grains.... geez!)". Then, he was concerned about the fact that I fed cat food and not ferret food. He said "Cat food has lower protein and lower fat then ferret food. I highly suggest ferret food, or even Kitten food. Something that is at least 30% protein and 20% fat". I answered, "Sir, the average of my grain-free foods are 40% protein and 30% fat...". He changed subject after that saying it's "my choice". And then, on the operation report, he wrote to me "...and I suggest getting her on a good quality ferret food such as Totally Ferret". I shall keep going to this new vet, because other than the food issue, the lady vet who saw the girls before the operation was just amazing compared to others here... I have no idea how to get the vets around here around the idea of "Grain-free" feeding, and even better, raw feeding. It bugs me that no vets here really think "outside the kibble box"... How should I react or tell the vets here that I am interested in raw, or at the VERY LEAST high quality grain-free kibble... Should I just ignore their pushing me onto some not so great foods, or do I cause quarrels between what is best and what is not? Now, I'm kind of worried this new vet in Park's place will try to get me to get off raw, get off grain-free kibbles and onto crap. I know I am the owner and I get to chose, but it's just really annoying that every time you go, they remind you what they want... GRRR!!! What would you do? Sorry for the long post... haha Sandra, Lyla & Meeko

OMG! Totally off topic... Sherry, I was staring at Boris' picture again, and I happened to notice the end of the handle on the spoon you are using... I think we have the same cutlery! Hahaha!!! They have a little "t" like cross at the tip, right? And the long like goes all the way down to the spoon end where there is another little "t" cross, right? That is so weird, lol! Sorry, I just wanted to ask Sandra, Lyla & Meeko

First, as far as the vet goes- mine is the same way. In theory she finally admitted raw was best in most cases(meaning a balanced diet), but wouldn't do so herself. She and I had "agreed to disagree" prior to this. An emergency vet I'd taken a cat to pretty much literally hit the roof when I mentioned raw feeding. I won't go into details, but her final comment was "Well- we simply won't discuss diet then" ;D Your best bet is to educate yourself on it, then simply stick to your guns. Every time they try to bring it up tell them politely but firmly you will not feed the kibbles with grains. Period. And if you choose to do raw, it's the same thing. You ARE feeding this. End of story. And you will NOT discuss it. Again, politely but firmly. With educating yourself on the subject you can rebut all the arguments they try to give you about kibble. And then let your ferrets speak for you with their health, their musculature, their teeth, and their coat And do not allow yourself to be drawn into an argument where you get upset and refer to what they are trying to push on you as "crap in a bag". Doesn't go over so well ;D As for the cutlery, no, it's not the same as you are describing

Hey Stiv!! Meeko is doing very good still! She got her stitches taken our about 3 hours ago, and they look fantastic! Unfortunately, the vet said to maybe keep them separated for the night to let the little holes "completely settle", and tomorrow morning she can be caged with Lyla again! YAY!! Unfortunately, it wasn't the exotic's vet that did the work, but I still got her to listen to the heart and lungs. She said the heart was beating a good strong beat (no swooshing sounds or anything, and nothing that suggests an arrhythmia) and the lungs sound good too, nothing suggesting liquid build up! So this is still good news! Then, after looking at how full of energy Meeko is, she told me about the night she was kept there before her operation, and I thought it was so cute I'd share So, they had given her a little dog/cat kennel like everyone else. Since she was to be fasted, she was allowed of a water dish only. Since she'd had a history of chewing on blankets, they only gave her news paper. A little while later, when someone walked by her kennel (the non-exotic vet she saw tonight), Meeko's head and paws were dripping wet. The water bowl was empty, she's scratched all the water out. She had also shredded all the news papers (I didn't tell them it was one of her favorite toys.... ooops!) and she had a strand of papyer hanging from her mouth. The vet said she looked out the bars as if saying "What!?!?!?!" when she happened to find her this way... This absolutely did NOT surprise me.... sounds just like her to do such things... Silly baby!! Since starting Meeko on mainly only NV Freeze Dried reconstituted, I give Meeko 3 meals a day (morning, when I get home from school, and evening). She's been eating approx 2 mini medallions a day... is that about good? She always leaves a bit of left over to be tossed out, so I'm sure if I put more I will just be tossing more... lol! I've also been increasing the amount of water I put in... like, I will put overly too much so that she laps it up while eating.... she doesn't seem to mind me doing that, so I guess it's a good way to keep her drinking Also, I went to see my mom tonight, and she feeds her dog Ziwipeak, so I took a few "kibbles" and sprinkled it on top of Meeko's meal tonight, and she was really happy about that! She ate them all up and lapped all the excess water from her meal When I see her this way she is so.... "normal"... that it's hard to think that she's sick and I should not forget that.... Btw, thanks for the tips with the vet concerning diet... I will definitely do that next time the subject is brought up! Thank you! Thanks again! Sandra, Lyla & Meeko

That's great that she's taken to it so well! And if she's leaving a wee bit then it's quite likely enough for her glad she's healing so well and feeling good. She'll be so happy to snuggle with her buddy again. So- was the vet surprised at what she found in the cage? ;D

Thats great!!! i am so happy she si doing alright!!! is the vet sure it was juvenile lymphoma? she sounds GREAT for having it!!! i can only hope now that it won't become a gressive like rob! Rob used to splash in his water also:) if we would have taken him into the vet when he was still happy, he would have done the same thing!
