Tonight's dinner was 2 oz of soupie, pork slivers and an egg mixed in....tried egg by itself last week and he was like no thank you. But, tonight he ate it up, not all of it but about half. Question, since we put egg in it, how long can it stay out tonight when we put in his condo? I know the other can stay out for like 6-8 hours but not sure about with egg. He is good about eating more later.
Oh after a nap today I gave him about 1/2 oz of ground steak.....oh and yesterday morning I broke off 2 small frozen pieces to leave while we ran errands and he woke up cause he heard me and started chomping on the frozen piece.....funny

Good Morning. (dance)
That's a great scale. When you put Gomez on it, put a drop of oil on it and he will hold still for you to get his weight.
The egg is fine for quite awhile. Ferrets will not usually eat something if it has turned. I've left mine out for up to 10 hours if it's cool inside.
Ferrets are funny. Some really like frozen pieces or cold pieces. Others want theirs to be room temp or a bit warmer. One fun trick is to use a vegetable peeler on a semi frozen piece of meat and simply peel off slices. This is good for days when you have to leave a plate out and go off. The meat defrosts and last longer in the cage.
Just for info sake, meat is good for up to: 6-8 hours for soupie (or even a litle longer)
Ground meat for the same amount of time as soupie 6-8 hours or a little more.
Nuscle meats depending on the size of the chunk are good for 12-24 hours or so.
Bone in meats are good for 24 hours.
Whole prey is fine for 48 hours.
@machan is a Mentor in Training and will be also be watching over your transition. She was my Mentee and managed to switch her 3 in under two months. She is smart, funny and loves to research information. Machan lives in Australia and it's fun hearing what life is like over there.
Any questions?

Eggs out of the shell could stay out for about an hour. 6 or so hours if its in he shell too. My 2 yearly boy Beavis wasn't keen on egg at first either, but now he loves it.

Hi yes the scale is great, we will try the oil trick with Mr wiggle butt. Love the frozen meat sliver idea. When we came home today he had not eaten any of the leftover, but he ate a lot at breakfast. Wonder if he's just sure of the egg in with the soupie.

Hi! I'm happy to help~ My name on the holistic group is Machan Amari. I'm sometimes quite active on the Facebook group. I would love to see photos of Gomez. I was going through this thread and Gomez sounds wonderful. I'm from Darley, which is in between Ballarat and Melbourne in Victoria. It's currently Spring, going onto summer so its getting warm here. I tend to be really active on the forum, so I check in throughout the day. My first two ferrets are Haru (female, Sable Point, currently 750g), Yuuki (Male, Albino, currently 1030g) and Beavis who was a rescue I got quite recently (Male, Chocolate Point, 1040g). I started my switch with Haru who was 8 months at the time (now 1 years old) and Yuuki who was 6 months at the time (now 10 months). I adopted Beavis close to the end of my switch with Poncesmom and he's a 2 yearly with a cataract. ;u; @poncesmom was my mentor when I was switching and is really wonderful so I'm sure she will still hang around and help when ever needed. I saw your scale too! It looks great. I would love to get one like that. If Gomez is really wriggly, you can always get a bowl and do the oil trick to weigh that way. He really does sound to be eating pretty well despite leftovers. You'll get the hang of his eating habits and then make adjustments when ever its needed. I look forward to hearing more about Gomez~ I adore his name and he sounds simply wonderful.

Evening Machan, I'm Gomez's other mom....Jami. I have been watching multiple threads and several Facebook pages that are devoted to ferrets for months now. Recently I have noticed that a lot of ferrents talking about their fuzzies winter coats coming in. I was wondering what this actually means and curious as it doesn't appear to us that Gomez has any change in his coat. Is their something we should he doing or giving him to encourage that. Just concerned as we live in Northern New Hampshire .... cold and snowy winters! He loves being outdoors and we are looking forward to having him play outside! Wanna make sure he is gonna be warm Thanks Jami

Just concerned as we live in Northern New Hampshire .... cold and snowy winters! He loves being outdoors and we are looking forward to having him play outside! Wanna make sure he is gonna be warmThanksJamiHi Jami! You don't need to do anything to encourage a coat change. It usually is done naturally as the seasons change. Their coats will become longer slightly and it will make them seem more fluffy. Colour can also change depending on season as well. Since It's currently spring where I am and we're going onto summer very soon, I will tell you what I see as a difference so far: Haru & Yuki have shaded their winter coats and now have a nice shiny much shorter coat. I also noticed a slight weight change and the eating habits decreased quite a bit. Since Haru is a sable point, she had no mask in winter but her mask formed quite fast. I've also read that it's possible for a ferret to have a reverse cycle, where their longer coats come out during summer etc etc. Ferret's have very thick skin, so it shouldn't do no harm to be out during winter as long as its not extremely cold and isn't for a very long time. You just got gomez correct? So that would probably be during winter and he may already have his winter coat grown in. I got Haru and Yuki during winter so I didn't know what a summer or winter coat really looked like until they shed. Australia gets a really chilly winter, and I adopted my two from a breeder who had them outside all year round. ;n; Since you have snow, it will be very different. I hear that ferrets love snow too! If you're concerned about the weather, just try having some small outside sessions, just to see how Gomez is. That may also help with the coat growing and he'll adjust to the weather naturally. I found this thread that have some replies regarding temperature, if you would like to check it out. holisticferret60.proboards.com/thread/4859You're fuzzies sounds great. ...I have seen you post on them. Did you read our application yet on the mentor section?Yes I just checked it out and realised that Ive read it before. You both sound like very caring and responsible ferrents! it's so great that you adopted little Gomez into a loving forever home.

So last night we made a double batch of chicken soupie, it is ok to double, I think so but some recipes I know change. He was and has been eating so good that we have increased him to 5 oz a day, is this ok? We did this since winter is coming here and they eat eat eat everyone says. Now, that said today he ate only a little this morning, left it in his condo and he did not eat, came home tonight and we both had separate meetings so Jami tried and he ate a little. An hour later I came home and woke him and he ate it up and some salmon oil. Then pottied and went to bed, he is out but in his closet box. So you all know he as a sand box outside, rice box inside, several tubes - cat tube and the Marshalls clear tub, many toys, mice on a string etc.
