Does Gomez eat right after waking up?
I wondered if that might be it, he wakes up potties and then about 5-10 min he eats
Ferrets shiver to bring up their body temps after they nap.
Sometimes I've read here on the forum, that they shiver from excitement during eating. None of mine have done that though.
Gomez is doing so well. I'd try removing the kibble for one night and let him eat his soupie.
It's good for 6-8 hours or even a little longer.
Dry kibble and raw digest a different rates. That might cause an upset tummy and that could lead to a bacterial overgrowth.
It's not a proven fact but it something we try to be careful about. There should be about 2 hours between kibble and raw.
We have been putting in his condo what raw he has not finished when we leave for work the last 2 days he has eaten all of it by when we get home, yippie. In the morning we will remove the kibble....so 2 oz of soupie with some raw slivers in it about an ounce e is enough to sustain him all day till we get home?
We're still debating over this being a problem with some ferrents reporting no issues and others worrying about the cause when a ferret does develop a bacterial overgrowth.
Since you are doing so well, let's do a quick test just to see if you understand what nutrients are in your soupie recipe.
1. What Vitamin is found in Liver? IRON
2. Why is the heart in soupie so important?
Heart is an excellent source of taurine as is tongue. This is for their eyesight and very important several times a week.
3. What does the eggshell provide.
CALCIUM for strong bones
.
4. Which is better for soupie, chicken thighs or chicken breasts and why?
Thighs are better as they have more blood flow. On raw ferrets do not drink as much water because they get a lot from the raw.
I like giving small pop quizzes. It points out areas that you are unsure of and allows Mentors to know what you need to know and are not aware of. I hope you don't mind.
Not at all....we love to learn
It's so important as you transition Gomez to understand his nutritional requirements. We can simply give you a menu or tell you how to feed him, but learning why is even better.
Each step of his transition teaches you a little more about his dietary needs and enables you to make good decisions for his menu and allows you to make substitutions should you not be able to find something on his weekly menu plan.
At some point, you will have completed his switch and he will be on full Frankenprey or even Whole prey should you choose that.
Once he is fully on raw, we 'graduate' you by giving you a small exam and then you will forward his menu for approval.
We congratulate you both, add your name to the list of raw feeders and change your status to raw feeder. It's a wonderful goal and even more wonderful to see Gomez strong and healthy on a Natural diet.
Give Gomez a big hug and tell him how well you all are doing. He is such a sweetheart.
