The baby food is only for sick ferrets. When water is added (or an electrolyte balancer) you can syringe feed it. Yes there is a suggested expiration date on the baby food which is why I only carry one jar at any one time. I pitch it after the date and buy a new one. If I need more that one jar will get me through an emergency until I can get into town to get more ciao

Baby food is vacuum packed. If the unopened lid pops when oyu press on it, toss it. It's cheap enough not to take chances. I worked at a food bank and they routinely sold food after the "best by" date.

Okay thank you! Question. Without starting a new thread. Unless you think I should. I clipped loki's nails today and they looked good and then he started digging and then I notices before I put him to bed he had a little split in his nail. Not bleeding but I can tell its tender to touch. I don't want it to split more he is a digger. What can I do to prevent it from splitting more?

It will probably heal within a couple of days, it shouldn't be a problem unless the split goes right up into the quick ciao

Try not to let him dig for a day or two. I know restricted play time isn't fun but just to be on the safe side ciao

Do u have any of that stuff that stops bleeding when quick gets cut?
My hubbie used to cut previous ferrets nails and hit quick on my little sissy--- I was shocked at how much blood. Needless to say, that was our last time doing that. Now we go to vet. But I would definitely get some.

I don't. But I do have cornstarch. Does that work?

cornstarch works well. I've hit the quick a few times when I rushed the job. It's actually pretty easy to see on most ferret claws, but some are more difficult. One trick I learned is when I have the claw in the clipper, I squeeze gently before just cutting, if I'm not sure. The ferret will let you know if you're in the quick zone.
The first time I got Moe, I was worried he'd bleed out, but cornstarch stopped it, and a minute later he acted like nothing happened.

HELP!!! Loki puked! No coughing before hand just puked! He's been acting a little funny all day. Going potty in random places and digging in his litter (he had never done that before) but super playful all day. Here is what the vomit looks like. Sorry if TMI.

Did you actually see him puke?
I ask because with ECE, ferrets sometimes Puke but it can look like diarrhea.
What did he eat today? Any new foods?
How is he acting now?

I did see him puke. I don't know what made me look at him maybe the noise of it. But I saw him standing by the little puddle then I was like ? then he puked again. I gave him pumpkin to help with passing the fur that he is licking up from cleaning himself. And his regular food. He is sleeping now. I put him in his cage to keep him safe while I cleaned up the mess with cleaner and first thing he did was drink and eat.

I went and checked on him right after I posted this last time. And he was awake and eating. I checked his litter box to see if he had gone potty yes and he did. His poop was a way different consistency to it, I don't know if that has anything to do with anything. But her is his poo, again sorry if TMI. I just am a new ferret owner and I dearly love him and the thought of him being sick breaks my heart and makes me scared. (He didn't play as hard as he normally does for this time of night, but he played extra hard during the day today)

Keep an eye on him if he has a normal night activity wise ,and in the morning. A vet may be needed if he stays the same or worsens. Hopefully someone else can chime in.
