My little fuzzy man is coughing again like he has a hairball or something like that. I did try the egg a couple days ago and it did wonders for the coughing. I don't have any egg right now though and he keeps coughing (not continually just when he gets real excited)

do you have a friend or a close neighbor that u can get an egg from?
Does coughing when excited seem suspicious to anyone?

While it won't 'fix' the problem (whatever it may be) maybe put a bit of salmon oil in the freezer for a couple of minutes (a small amount will chill quickly) and let him lick that. It will help sooth his throat.

Do you have a comb or pet comb? I'd start off combing him every day and help with some of that excess fur. It's shedding season and maybe he is a big self groomer.
Add a drop or two of oil to his water. I don't like suggesting other oils but even a drop of vegetable oil should help.

Maybe he is laughing, that has a he he he he sound, that a new ferrent may mistake for a cough. My guess is No, but I'll ask for a video. :thankyou:

Abbey made me wonder about it and the thought crossed my mind that maybe he is making a laughing sound when he gets excited? A video might give us a better idea of what is going on.

I was thinking the same thing too. Tundra laughs when he's excited and it could be mistaken for a light cough.
Coughing ferrets are loud and obnoxious about it when they have hair stuck.

try 1/2 tsp of warm olive oil ( he should lick it down readily ) and then give him a good grooming with a fine tooth comb and a hard brush if you groom him he will be less likely to do it himself and this will stop the coughing from loose hairs hope this helps take care bye for now Bev

He hasn't done it today. I gave him a small bit of olive oil and he quit.

I'm glad to hear he's feeling better. I would strongly suggest that you go out and get white vaseline and a tin of real pumpkin (you can break it up into ice cube trays and freeze) and keep this as part of your ferret first aid kit. Another item to also keep as part of your kit is a jar of all meat baby food. These are absolute necessity items for your first aid kit and you should always have these items in your house ciao

Just in case I run out of meat for him to eat? He hasn't coughed today or yesterday. And I got him really super excited and still no cough. He did sneeze once lol.

Glad that he is doing a lot better . i always used meat baby food when ferrets got sick and quit eating. I would finger feed mine. Since i was feeding kibble back then,I would put softened kibble in it Gerber's chicken, turkey, ham, or lamb. Better yet---Beechnut. I don't know if there r expiration dates on jars I guess that is why it is mentioned---could be wrong.

I don't know if there r expiration dates on jars I guess that is why it is mentioned---could be wrong. There are definitely expiration dates on the jars, I only have a couple on hand at the moment just for that reason. I want to have some for immediate use if I need it but I do not have the money to waste on the times I do not. So a couple of jars in my emergency kit will get me started and then I can get more to continue it and restock for future.
