1. Where did you first learn about natural diets for ferrets?
After a while of having them, I began to research and use better kibbles. Later on, I stumbled upon this site and began reading up on a raw diet and its benefits. After seeing some of the before and after photos, I was sold.
2. Please describe the type of diet you would like assistance in switching your ferret(s) to. Be sure to include if you are interested in feeding whole prey (live or frozen-thawed) and if you are wanting to FULLY switch to a natural diet or PARTIALLY. If you are unsure what kind of diet you want to put your ferrets on, ferret.
I would like to switch them to a full-raw diet with frankenprey.
I am not interested in feeding whole prey.
No kibble.
The only other thing that I would like to continue giving them, at least occasionally, would be the FDR Stella & Chewys (Chicken, Duck, and Turkey ); At least until my final 3 bags run out. (About ½-3/4 of each bag left)
3. Why are you interested in switching your ferrets to a natural diet?
After noticing some improvements with the FDR/Kibble, I want to give them raw to
‘bulk’ them up as well as the reduced chance for diseases. Also, to give them added energy, better teeth, strength, etc.
4. Do you understand that switching your ferret to a natural diet can be a lengthy, arduous process? Its not an overnight switch. It can be a commitment of several weeks or even months. Your HF Mentor will be more then happy to assist you in switchng your ferret(s) to a natural diet, but you need to be equally as commited. If you aren't willing to tough out a potentially lengthy switching process, or if you have major life changes approaching (baby on the way, moving, starting school, getting married/divorced, etc) then it might be a better idea to wait on switching your ferret's diet until you have more time. Are you willing to make the commitment?
Yes. I know it will be hard to do, especially with these picky-eaters!
5. How many ferrets do you currently have? What are their names? Ages? Genders? Do they have any health problems? Are they overweight? Underweight? How long have you had each ferret for?
2 Ferrets.
Harry (Male; Polecat coloring)
1.5 Years, going on 2 soon
Underweight
No health problems that I know of
Brooklyn (Female, Sable?)
8 months or so
No health issues that I know of
I’ve had both since they were 8 weeks-2 months from Petco
6. What diet do you currently feed your ferrets? (Please include all treats, supplements, etc) Do they already eat some form of soup?
They were on Wysong Digestive Support / Ferret Evo kibble with Stella & Chewy’s FDR Chicken, Duck, or Turkey rotated in.
The kibble mix was used mainly for overnight eating along with the FDR or the past month, and no kibble for the past 3 days.
Currently, they are on the FDR rotation for 1 meal, and then the past 3 days with about 1.5 oz of raw soup each for the evening.
The soup recipe I am using is
8 oz Chicken thigh (With bone)
1 oz Chicken Liver
1-1.5 oz (1.5 Chicken hearts)
About a half cup of water (Party-cup size)
No egg shells currently as they are still drying and I am buying a coffee grinder asap.
Supplements are:
Petroleum Jelly as a laxative twice every two-weeks or so if they start coughing a lot
FDR chicken liver 1x-2x a week (Harry only)
Instinct Cat FDR chicken treats 1.5x a week (Harry only)
Wysong Dream treats Quail –About a 7th of a dream treat every week.
A few licks of ferret tone every 2 weeks
1x every 2-3 weeks of the skin/coat ferret treats (Stopped giving them)
1-2x Peanut Butter flavored Bandit treats every 2 weeks (Stopped giving them)
7. Have you ever tried to switch your ferrets to a natural diet in the past? If yes, what happened?
No, but I sort of had to‘re-teach’ them to eat the FDR Stella & Chewy’s recently when I bought new bags. I guess it smelled different?
8. What additional information about yourself or your ferrets would you like to share?
I am gone for work from about 7:30-5:30 Mon-Fri; Girlfriend is in college but most days is back by 1 pm
9. How often during the week do you have access to a computer?
Every Day+ Phone to check if needed.
10. Please post a picture of each of your ferrets (if possible).
