It's really funny the look they give when you give them a small chunk like a wing , leg of a quail etc.
They just turn their head slightly and look at you like "really, you are going to make me work for this?"

hahahaa, it IS hard for them, don't be so rigid dad you should try to give them a quail head, most ferrets eats that first. yummy.. (i know, gross) great news with pork, they are getting used to it. they will eat it without hesitation very soon. can't wait to see what will happen with the mouse!

But i can read That's fine I am about to have the try their first mouse now. It is thawed out and I am going to try to give to them whole first, then slice open. If that fails, I will probably blend it as a grind a bit with some chunks, and then try to sneak it in turkey lol.

Well...the first attempt at a sliced in half mouse was unsuccessful. I got them to lick it a few times and Brooklyn took a couple half hearted chews to it.
Other than that, they kept their mouth shut at all costs even with scruffing and whined about it. I ended up giving them turkey instead so they could eat.
I cut out the guts out and warmed it while in the bag with a bowl of warm water too.
The mice smell gross lol.
Next attempt should I blend 1-2 up and sneak it in a grind they are used to? Then work up to chunks?

They do smell gross.. Yes, mix the mouse in the grind they like, but small amount so they could eat. Mouse have intensive smell, but in some other minceit shouldn't be problem. I left my laptop on service, it's not only cooling sistem, it is some problem with graphic card. I should know tomorrow when it'll be repaired. I found the way to reply, no problems so far

I see they ate pork. Without mixing with something else (on 1/9)? Goat meat can be a bit harder to accept, but it's great they did ate some. Just like the pork. Mine like goat meat, much, but we had problems in the beginning too. They need to learn it is the food

Yeah they are eatin it by itself but it is definitely a struggle to get them to eat it, even with scruffing.
For cutting up mice and especially the retired breeder quail, do you recommend those "ulu" knives I keep hearing about on here ?
And as for the quail, should i de -pluck them first and then chop up in a bunch of pieces , chop into like 5-6 pieces, or leave as is and then chop?
Oh yeah, do you happen to have a menu you use for yours?

I don't have expirience with that "ulu" knives, i use meat chopper for everything. But for a small animals like mouse or quail, maybe it would be easier? When i was chopping quails in the beginning, i moved all feathers and intestines and then chopped them in small pieces increasing the size of chopped meat. Now i just move intestines, cut them in the middle so they can easily start to eat. i do have a menu for mine, but i change it sometimes. When some of them don't want to eat chicken wings in their meal, i give them in the next one. And their menu depends of whole pray. If they get whole pray, i give them 4 meals that week so i can easily count their other meals. They get only one meal of liver and organs in that week and 1 meal of heart, not 1,5 like in regular frankenpray menu. I'm not a math person and that is easy for me to count that way When they are on frankenpray week, they get 9 meals of edible bone (chicken, rabbit, duck-when i can get it, and turkey), 1,5 meal of liver+organs, 1,5 meal of heart and 2 meals of muscle meat (veal, pork, venison, horse, beef, goat, lamb - never chicken, turkey or rabbit). I usually mix 2 or 3 different meats in that meal. i alway give them 9 meals of BIM bc from thights, drumsticks and turkey wings they always left some bone. I am watching their poop, only once or twice it was harder and in that case they would get extra muscle meal. hope you understood everything, i'm on my tablet and can't see all text

Wow never heard of horse being used before haha.
So I have noticed them eating a bit less the last week and a half or so. Activity levels and poop looks fine though.
Harry has developed an obsession with a snowman ball you that has a bead in the middle to make noise. He goes in the living room when he is out there and finds it, then waits at the pet gate to take it into our room. Caught him waking up in the cage today, taking it with him down the cage, and then using the room litter pan while holding it in his mouth lol.
I haven't had a chance to blend some mice or de feather and chop the quail yet, but I did get my hands on a good pair of chicken scissors that should do the job well.
They just had pork for the 3rd time ( ? ) , which was better than the other too. Harry deals with it better than Brooklyn. They also had goat again, and both hated it still.
The major difference this week is, although they are eating less, they are eating by themselves more , especially at night. Usually turkey, quail or duck left on the plate pretty much gets cleaned up. One night, they didn't even touch the turkey though which was weird.
While feeding quail a couple days ago, there was a bone piece the size of your fingernail that Brooklyn or harry wouldnt touch with scruffing. We left it on the plate and while washing my hands, I come back and hear Brooklyn munching under the bed with it lol.

Oh yes, horse meat is one of most expensive meats here, i buy it only for them. I would never, ever try it myself. Just like rabbit, roe or deer meat. Those animals are,for me, to beautiful to eat them. But for my fuzzies, whole different story. When i bought their first rabbit, i had to pretend i am cutting chicken. I was almost crying! LOL Brooklyn is like my Baylis, she was the first one eating the bone. Try to give her a bit bigger bone with meat on it and you will se what will she do . Maybe she will surprise you. i see by the amount of food they ate last week is not a big difference from week before. As long they are not losing weight, acting an pooping normaly, there's nothing to worry about. All of them have that kind of phase sometimes.

They do seem to be back up to eating pretty normal. They are eating food on their own at night (turkey / quail) and eating almost 3/4 by themselves.
One issue that I saw twice now was harry had a minor brief prolapse before pooping, where it stuck out about a bit. No blood or anything like that, and it went away on its own within about 15 minutes each time.
Another thing I am kinda dealing with is Brooklyn deciding to take our fan's remote and hide it somewhere. Right now we are in the dark besides our phones because I turned the light button off on the fan, so it stays off with the wall switch on lol.
