I always got boneless & skinless chicken thighs, because I couldn't find any thighs without bone and that still had the skin, and the skin got stuck on my blender blades (eventually burnt it out... *grumbles* lol), but mine do love the skin, so pork was always a favorite with them. Make sure the slivers are super tiny, you may think they are too small, but to the stubborn ferts they're too big I also like to get all the chores done, all the food ready, etc, and sit and worry about nothing for a few hours. Of course then the ferrets plot to destroy their cage, or the dog knocks over the trash can, but at least it's a few hours. We also have a house full of critters, 4 dogs, 2 cats, 2 ferrets, and 4 sugar gliders. We can't help it, we're addicted to the madness, LOL.

Well it seems that their appetites are now going down. It looks like they are eating about 5 pr so ounces each meal total. Now I am throwing out a lot of soup. Is this to be expected?

So they are eating about 10 ounces per day? That's A LOT. Totally normal for their appetite to decrease after eating so much, when my girl started 2 months ago she was eating 10-12,ounces per day, now she is eating 4 ounces per day. So yes it is normal.

Well it seems that their appetites are now going down. It looks like they are eating about 5 pr so ounces each meal total. Now I am throwing out a lot of soup. Is this to be expected? Just like us, their appetites go up and down. I know everyone hates to waste food, but I always overfeed. I just need to feed and I'm also numerically challenged. I'd rather have too much than too little. So, it sounds like it's time to start adding slivers of meat to the soup. You've already mentioned doing that. Start reducing the amount of soup and adding small slivers to the soup. The idea is to reduce the soup until it's all slivers. Then increase the size of the slivers. Take your time, once again they have to learn that this is food. You will probably want to sit with them and offer bits by hand. I know you don't have anything else to do and all the time in the world. Mine like a little gravy, so I usually add a touch of warm water. Some ferrents will use a little oil in the beginning. It's a matter of finding out how they like their meals prepared. My Wynstan loves for me to stand at the sink, run a piece of meat under some hot water and offer it to him.

So of course we cut back their food and now they are eating more! I have cut back the containers I just made from 10 oz each meal to 9 oz. I haven't gotten around to slivers since I have been so busy. I figure once I finally bulk buy some chicken thighs and make a few weeks of soup in advance, I can worry about mincing up chicken breast to try. I just bought a new freezer yesterday, 5 cubic feet! I am also going to be putting the dogs on a new diet from the Honest Kitchen with the base mix Kindly so I will be adding meat to it and not have to worry about supplementation and the cats are going to get ground raw with organs and bones in it and add the Alnutrition supplement to it. I think it will be easier for me as well as my husband to do it this way. I am already having issues with him to remember to feed the ferrets when it is his mornings to do it because he has no time to warm up the food, and he has forgotten to give Mozart his meds! He doesn't seem to understand how important that is for Mozart to get fed and get him meds. I usually don't get home until 9 am, which is quite some time since they may have last eaten and I have always come home to a bone dry bowl. I also made one ice cube tray of soup in case I need to take them to work or something where I may need to take some with me. Right now I have enough food until Sunday morning and will make more then. I should be getting a shipment of hearts soon and will just divide them up when they arrive. Wish me luck. Oh and my new weight scale came today!! Can't wait to see how they do weight wise on this diet. Unfortunately Daisy is starting to lose hair on her tail and belly. I may have to start increasing her Lupron injections to monthly or every 6 weeks. I don't see the vet until March for their rechecks. Wish me luck!
